Deleted Account 5,203 Report Share Posted November 13, 2017 Every couple years or so, Bluefield finds itself accepting money from Division 1 schools for games in which it is expected to be a sacrificial lamb for major college teams. That being said, for being NAIA, Bluefield gave a darned good account of itself against a MEAC school.
sixcat 2,919 Report Share Posted November 13, 2017 My brother played basketball at Bluefield from '98-'02. If memory serves, they beat Radford University two years in a row. I'm just not certain if those games were early season games, exhibition games or a combination.

I can't stand to feel like I provided faulty information so, I want to get it right and my memory isn't what it used to be. The first was his freshman season and was a preseason/exhibition game at Radford. Radford turned around and lost a week later to Concord. The second wasn't Radford. Bluefield beat Elon a couple of years after my brother graduated. Deleted Account
Deleted Account 5,203 Author Report Share Posted November 13, 2017 And just last night, Northwestern State (Southland) lost to Division III LeTourneau College out of Texas by 17. That’s roughly the equivalent of Radford losing to Emory and Henry. http://www.nsudemons.com/news/2017/11/12/demon-basketball-mens-basketball-falls-to-letourneau.aspx?print=true

Good showing for the rams

1inStripes 932 Report Share Posted November 15, 2017 It was nice when King beat App State a few years ago while King was still NAIA I believe in a regular season game. Probably been 8-10 years ago as well.

Lol I don't remember the years in which they occurred, but when I was in school there, UVa-Wise then known as Clinch Valley College defeated Jacksonville and took Austin Peay to OT in football. (both I-AA schools) CVC was still NAIA then.
1inStripes 932 Report Share Posted November 15, 2017 Fairly accurate when it comes to App State. I remember as well 2008 UVA-Wise almost upset them before falling 82-77. 2010 was the King victory over the Mountaineers 87-76. Each game had a fair share of Scott County kids participating was a the big reason of interest.

Old Southern Conference rivals across the mountain from one another I am guessing. But they haven't been in the SoCon together for years. I guess bad blood never dies. I don't think they even play each other in anything now do they?
