Union over WC just cause of Slagle. Battle might have the edge on WC as well.

Union has really struggled to score aside from Slagle this season. From what I've heard, the Bears have some talent on the wing but it's super young while Wes has been only dependable scoring threat so far this year.

Lee High has one player that I don't know his name that's very underrated and a great shooter. But sadly the team as a whole just doesn't the skill set to compete with solid teams.

I would guess you are referring to Jacob Stewart who passed the career 1000 point mark in the game at GC this week.

Union got the W over South, Slagle had a big game. I forgot about Battle but they're certainly in the mix.

Union beat South. South beat Battle by 30. Battle is not in the mix for top 3. Two things are certain: Gate City finishes first and Abingdon finishes last.

The first scrum I cant remember what player for GC got fouled but he got whacked and was on the floor and the boy from Wise that fouled him was tangled up with him but didnt fall.  He hovered over him and either mouthed off or made contact with him again while he was down.   It happened on the opposite end of the court from me so it was hard for me to see it all really good.  But Ervin  went to help out his teammate really quick and got up in some faces along with another player or two.

The 2nd scrum that happened on my end is the one that caused the assistant coaches from Wise to hit the court along with several of their players that were on the bench.   Had fans walking behind the score table coming towards Scotty that had to be escorted back to their seats.  I think Scotty and McAmis got into it at some point during that mess but couldnt tell for everything that was unfolding at once.  Then GC team had to be escorted to the locker room at halftime.

Honest to goodness....it was like Jerry Springer......but wayyyyyyy better. As long as no one legitimately gets hurt I live for these games.  Never know what your gonna see haha

The Lester kid fouled a GC kid and somehow he ended up on the floor with the GC kid over him. At that point Lester threw him off and that’s when GC players retaliated by pushing and shoving but never any punches thrown. Lester kid is a little mouthy but doesn’t seem as bad as he was when he was at Union. McAmis and Scotty never got into it with each other. I know Scotty told one of the Central coaches to shut up and sit down. Head coaches did meet with the refs and talked and talked. The assistants from both sides got heated and the GC assistants ended up in front of the scorers table right after the incident under the GC basket. No fans from either side stepped onto the basketball floor. Some Central fans did jump up and go toward the scorers table where the GC coaches were but never touched the floor. The bleachers is literally a step above the floor behind the scorers table. Same on the visitor side. To tiny of a gym for a school that size. GC is clearly the better team with Ervin scoring at will but don’t think for a minute the GC players don’t talk trash on the floor or push and elbow just like very team does. McAmis is a good coach and seems to get the most out of what little talent he’s had over the years. Not sure what people are watching when they say his teams are dirty, all teams have turds here and there and things are gonna happen but NO I don’t think he teaches his players to play dirty nor do any other coaches in the area. A couple years back McClung got slammed into the wall trying to dunk by a kid who ended up transferring to Union and still it was all Central coaches fault.

Every school I’ve ever been to to watch a game has those fans that just won’t shut up. Every town, every school, every state. Don’t act like GC or Wise or Clintwood or whoever is the only ones that have them. Stop putting down someone you don’t even know. All these coaches try their best to win and teach these kids the best they can. Not for a minute do I believe any coach, including McAmis, teach these kids to be dirty. Some people on this site just like to cause trouble running their mouths about someone they don’t even know.

McAnus encourages dirty play. No doubt about it. If he didn’t encourage it, he would discipline his players every year when they play us. Nope, what does he do? He claps hard with a gritty face like he freakin loves it. They try to roughhouse Gate City every year but it ends up pissing GC off and they get their arse beat. Pissing GC off on the court is the worst thing to do. Once you give them fire, it’s over. Wise Central and McAnus haven’t learned this yet.

How many fans at GC have you seen get kicked out of a game?  Every fan of a school around here has some story they could tell of that happening at Wise.  That's all I'm saying.

That's the dumbest shit I've ever heard. The incident occurred when the kid was at Central, what does Union have to do with it? Did he undercut McClung or anyone while at Union, or did it only happen at Wise?

Way to use the worst logic ever to try to justify shitty behavior.

I am always amused when GC folks brag about hammering Central in boys basketball like it's some kinda big deal to chest thump about.  )The M7 in boy's b-ball has been a 1 horse race since the get. Beating Central in boy's basketball is no feat at all. Beating their girls is noteworthy. I also wonder why literally every time GC and Central play in boy's b-ball there's always a big dramatic list of posts talking about scrums, near scrums...etc. When you play someone multiple times and BOTH sides get chippy EVERY single time then that's BOTH coaches not getting their kids in line. At some point it is the responsibility of both coaches to have a little pow wow and say "Enough of this crap. We need to represent our communities better than this".

First, who coined the term “scrum”, lol.

Second, both sides ARE at fault.

Wise plays like TJ did in high school.  He played very chippy and annoying to try to get opposition riled up to mess up their game. I don’t know how much he has coached players to take kids out so can’t say much about that.

Wise fans were allowed to hang a sign saying “Merry Christmas to everyone except GC”.  That falls on the school administrators as much as TJ.  With the history of these teams, why allow something that starts a riff between crowds (much like the diapers on sticks at GC) before the game starts?

If the schools truly want it to end, step in and make it clear that it needs to stop. Stop whining about each other on message boards.

Or here's a thought: Say "We are better than this",not get baited, shut your mouths and play ball

I may be clueless but who is TJ?

I know alot of sensitive fans would disagree......but I for one didnt mind the Christmas sign at all.  It's just trash talk between kids that are having fun and that's been going on since theres been rivalries in sports.  I've seen far worse on signs.....some of the stuff I used to see on signs at the GC vs PV or GC vs Graham football games in the 90s would make a sailor blush.  Snowflakes now just get butthurt way too easily.  Was surprised at the number of whiney comments about that sign I seen on social media.   I'm all for the trash talk and such....just as long as it doenst go too far on the court and no one gets hurt.

I will never miss a Central vs GC game if I can help it.  I've come to expect a total chit-storm everytime.... and so far it hasn't disappointed. It's the only game every year I can count on seeing something completely out of the ordinary.

I typically wouldn’t mind the sign either but with the rough history and accusations over the last couple years I think the administration should step in before it does go too far.  Eventually small things could incite larger rifts.

The diapers on a stick (all students no other fans) was shut down by the AD Roberts once he realized what was going on and what it represented.

I love the trash talk. Love things like that. Love this “rivalry” as well.  But you gotta expect to catch hell when it doesn’t end well for you. Just ask Va High about the 2010 game when they wore those striked out GC shirts in warmups during football season. Wise Central kinda picked up where Va High left off. I hope the tension stays high vs these schools. It makes it super fun. Especially basketball.
