I guess the GC folks imagined that they could play with DB...but reality is that disparity in size is such an advantage for the bigger school.  GC will be more than okay in Virginia v. 2A schools.  Just temper the real expectations against the big schools...you'll sleep better!

That is the expectation when you beat Science Hill, that you can play with and beat DB.

I thought it would be a closer game but I wasn't going to be surprised if GC lost today.  I just hope the team has some energy left to start playing the games that matter come Wednesday.  They got another stretch of 3 games in 4 days.  Union played today too so they are kinda in the same situation.

Even a blind hog finds the trough every now and then. Glad GC team expects to win; that is the way teams should think. But the fan base needs to be realistic. The lions share of wins will go to the much larger school.

Hey how’d VA High do against (1A) Chilhowie?

Which year? What sport? What part of much larger do you not understand? Do you need me to explain lions share?  I knew it wouldn’t take much for someone from GC to make a stupid reply. Congratulations Ape!  You win the rotten bananas.

Well, it’s 2018 & we’re on the basketball thread, but I can understand why you would think I was talking about the VHS vs Chilhowie Tennis match in 1978.

You always know when you’re talking to somebody from Bristol. 🙄

Looks like DB doubled and tripled team Ervin and Dean and shut their point production down... not sure if Va schools can follow that pattern but it wouldn't hurt to try.. thoughts anyone?

The lion's share (see what I did there?) of local VA teams will not be able to duplicate what DB was able to do. Could definitely cause us problems if/when we meet Radford. Thankfully there are not a lot of 6A schools, with an enrollment of 2,000 students, left on our schedule.

Bob........when VA High goes to baseball tournaments and plays larger schools..........do they imagine they can win? I sure hope they do. You HAVE to imagine/expect you can win any game. You can't step on the court/field and expect to lose. Well you can, but the results are not encouraging.

You can split the rotten bananas with Ape.

If you bothered to read, I said I’m sure the TEAM expects to win, and they should have that expectation. You FANS, on the other hand, are still living vicariously through the actions of teenagers.

Just more proof of how/why you GC folks killed your “other” forum. RIP🙏

Now on to something with a bit of real substance. I recall a comment the Western Albemarle coach made about GC this past summer. He felt they were one of the  better squads his team played on the summer circuit. That is significant and bodes very well for GC. Western plays a ton of summer basketball and Coach Maynard seldom hands out compliments to undeserving players or teams.

I do love bananas. :)

Let me rephrase. When the VA High baseball team plays larger schools and the TEAM believes they can win.........do you as a fan believe they can win? Do the majority of VA High fans believe they can win?              Again.......I would HOPE that the majority of fans at all schools believe that their teams have a chance of winning in most of the games they play.....but, I am wrong a lot.

Guess it also depends on the success of the particular team in question. When GC baseball plays..........the fan bases' confidence in winning is not very pronounced. Has been the same in football the last few years. In basketball we have been winning, so the fan base has more confidence in winning. That seems fairly realistic to me. Please let me know if you believe otherwise.

Substance: DB did provide a blueprint for teams to emulate. Did not help that Zac and Dean shot a combined 1-13 from behind the line, but DB's defense had a lot to do with that. Will just be a matter of which local teams have the horses to use it. Would think Graham/Union/WC will give it a try. Radford should have the horses to not need to try any "gimmick" defense. I know Zac normally can light it up from outside, but I would like to see us use him under the basket (on offense) a little more.........especially against teams who have a good big man. He would no doubt help rebound, and would draw a lot of fouls. Getting him....and the rest of the team...to the foul line often should always be good for us. I expected we would see more of Eli this year. Believed he would play PG, penetrate, and dish back to Zac & Dean. We do need someone else to step up and become more comfortable shooting the ball.

Might have to change your share to a banana split!  You seem rational and coherent. Happy New Year and good luck.

PS:

I really hope to see GC play East Rock this year. ER is a real final 4 possibility. If it comes to ER v GC, the concession stand visit is on me!

It’s nice to have the approval of a head coach that’s currently 4 - 5 on the season.

Geez Ape...your knowledge is lacking. Here’s a quote you may want to ponder. “It is better to be thought a fool than to open mouth (or type) and prove that you are”.

Not sure what it means to have "realistic expectations against bigger schools". GC has beaten "bigger schools" more than it's share. It just happened that the bigger school this time has a pretty darn good team that was ready to play. It also doesn't helping playing said bigger school after playing 4 games in 5 days. GC will be fine. I think folks need to pump the breaks.

DB beat Science Hill comfortably.

GC won by 15.  DB won by 10.  It was a reason many felt they would compete better than they did I would guess.  Some days just aint yours though, and Foreman went off for DB.

Indians baby. Very intense game. Had A late February, early March feel to it. Great atmosphere.

I hope Barnett and the other two officials got a police escorts to their cars. Blue Devils nation was not happy with the stripes crew.

My dad went to the game and said it was possibly one of the worst officiated games he has ever seen, and he was just there hoping to see  some good basketball.  He said if it couldnt get any better than that they should shut the tourney down it was so embarrassing, especially the foul they called on Ervin when who DB players ran into each other to draw the whistle.

That being said, I hope DB has a great year with a family member on the coaching staff.

Perhaps. It’s a google search away for anyone interested in fact checking me.
