Coaching Carousel in Washington County continues with Francisco stepping down.

Francisco is a respectable individual and a good coach but could never win the big one with some of the greatest talent to ever come through SWVA.

I’ll go ahead and say it. My bet is that they’ll give his son the job

What's everybody got for next week's tournaments?

Softball - I would think Central and Lee would be the favorites to make the region finals. The semi-final match-ups could go either though if it's Battle-Central and Lebanon-Lee, but I favor Central and Lee.

Baseball - I'm gonna predict Battle and Union in the finals. I think the Union-Lebanon match-up could be a classic, but I favor the Bears.

Lebanon definitely has a the tougher road to a Region D title in both softball and baseball, but they do have that championship pedigree in both sports that could carry them to the top.

Im sure most people would pick Lee and Wise being in the finals, and understandably so. Anyone believe that Lebanon and/or Richlands can get it done?

I know MNT 7 is easily better from top to bottom. Battle was no slouch at all. Just watching them warm up, they are all athletes and we'll coached. But Richlands came through with the win. Avenging a defeat in 2023 I think when Battle came back from being down maybe 5 or 6 runs in the 7th.

Richlands plays a familiar foe in Wise Central. They used to be a regular on the schedule and only scrimmaged this year. But these girls have also played against each other since they were 8 years old. Id say the series is probably even or pretty close with this group. Hoping for a close game and Richlands pulls it out late. Who yall got?

Lebanon vs Lee will be very interesting. Im not sure these 2 have played against each other recently. Lee and Wise both seem to be strongest this time of year. Can Lebanon put up enough runs on Weston for a bid to the state tournament? Also, dont sleep on Musick, she's pretty hot right now and pitching very well with a pretty solid lineup behind her. Who yall got in this one?

4-1 after hammering unbeaten Chilhowie 11-0. Yesterday they thumped one of the year in and year out best programs in Kentucky (Hazard) 10-4. Other wins over RV (Wallace is a solid pitcher for the Pack),a very impressive win over 6A North Carolina state finalist Asheville. Their loss was to a 5A South Carolia team (Easely) with several D1 commits including a 6-7 already committed to USC (game was tied 1-1 late). I knew the defense would improve and the pitching would be solid, but my concern was the offense. The last 2 evenings have shown me that we are much better swinging the sticks than last year. I know Abingdon will always be the favorite in baseball in the M7, but don't sleep on this bunch of Bears.

Region C, Class 1 Baseball Scores (Regionals)

Fort Chiswell slid past P. McCluer 29-0. Up 26 to 0, FC kicked a Field Goal to close it out 29-0.

Giles beat Bath County 21-3. Bath added a late field goal, but it was too little too late as Giles got 3 early touchdowns to put it out of reach.

In Class 2, defending state champion Appomattox, the 1 seed, got upset by the 8th seed-Liberty.

While I agree with most of their comments that they make during games, someone probably should tell them to hold back a little bit. Their constant criticism of officials is a little much.

Pikeview has to forfeit all wins due to ineligible player. The Princeton coach followed Pikeview player home who resides in VA and reported it which is weird because one of his players lives in Bland County. I guess if you can’t beat them, you turn them in.

Lebanon

The end of the regular season is quickly approaching.

Big game between Lebanon (7-0 SWD) and Virginia High (6-1 SWD) this week at Lebanon. Virginia High picked up a big win against Richlands yesterday, handing them their third district loss of the season.

Lebanon has lost some non-district games, but continue their winning ways in the Southwest District. Their youth has shown at times as they have multiple freshman starting, but they also have seasoned vets that have played a lot of baseball. They have a senior lead pitching staff with Hilton, Godsey and Baldwin and their batting has improved as the season has progressed. Don't sleep on them.

Any thoughts? The playoffs are almost here!
