From my Richlands perspective, I'll start with the 1994 Richlands team. They were good in all 3 phases of the game and were just a play or two away from winning the region.

The VHSL football state title games for classes 1 and 2 remain in Salem for 2026, but two more games added to Salem Stadium. Classes 3 and 4 will also be played there. Two games on Friday and 2 on Saturday.

The Virginia High School League (VHSL) has introduced significant changes to transfer eligibility effective for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school years, specifically targeting students who enroll in schools outside their assigned attendance zones.

Key Rule Changes (2025–2027)

Elimination of the "First-Time 9th Grader" Exception:
- Historically, 9th graders could enroll in any school (even outside their zone) and be immediately eligible.
- New Requirement (Effective July 1, 2026): To be eligible at a high school outside their assigned zone, a student must have attended that school's designated feeder middle school for 8th grade.
- Full Implementation (Effective July 1, 2027): All 9th-grade students must enroll in their assigned attendance zone to maintain immediate eligibility unless they meet the feeder school requirement.
The 365-Day Ineligibility Rule:
- If a student transfers to a new high school for any reason after establishing eligibility at their original school, they are generally ineligible for 365 days from the date of the transfer.
- This ineligibility applies unless there is a bona fide change of residence that complies with VHSL Regulation 28-6-1.

Requirements for Immediate Eligibility (Bona Fide Move)

To avoid the one-year sit-out period, a transfer must satisfy four criteria:

Abandonment of Previous Residence: The family must sell, rent, or dispose of the old home; it cannot be used by any family members.
Permanent Move: The entire family unit must move to a new, fixed, and permanent residence with the intent for the move to be long-term.
No Athletic Motivation: The move must not be motivated by seeking better athletic opportunities or specific sports programs.
Full Family Relocation: Split-family arrangements or acquiring a second residence do not satisfy the rule.

Immediate eligibility may still be granted without a move in specific cases, such as:

Enrollment in a school-based academic specialty program (e.g., International Baccalaureate or Governor's School).

📣 Beaver–Graham Rivalry Update

The 2026 and 2027 Beaver–Graham games will officially be played at historic Mitchell Stadium. Bluefield High School and Graham High School have reached an agreement ensuring both matchups take place as scheduled.

🏈 Home/Away Designation
• Bluefield High School will serve as the home team for both games.
• Beaver fans will sit on the home side.
• Graham fans will sit on the away side.
• The teams will alternate dark and light uniforms for both seasons.

This agreement guarantees that the 100th meeting of this storied rivalry will take place at Mitchell Stadium on August 28th, 2026.

📅 Looking Ahead
Negotiations for future venues will begin after the 2027 game, shaping the next chapter of Beaver–Graham football.

Graham fans especially should remember this guy. He plays for Wake Forest and is currently ranked the #9 RB in the draft, but actually tied with a couple others for 6th best, on some boards. So he's more than likely to make an impact for some NFL team.

Just saw Calhoun received an offer from Maryland. Said after the state championship he was a P4 caliber player. I think he’s around 6’2 or 6’3 so has tremendous size for the position. I imagine more offers will roll in for Simpson too.

Two bits of information here:

1. Galax has dropped Glenvar, Graham, and Northside and has picked up Craig County, Montcalm (WV), and J.I. Burton in their place. This has apparently been done since November, or perhaps earlier, but I hadn’t seen it discussed on the board, so I figured I’d pass it on.

2. The second, and biggest piece of information, is that Narrows has an opening for head coach posted on their website. Has been posted since 1/22, so again, apologies if this was known, but didn’t recall seeing it discussed.
