The gap between VA High and Abingdon is much closer than the gap between Battle and VA High. You're realistic in the expectations for this week, but Abingdon would be a middle of the road 2A team most years.

I know some of the younger North kids are coming over next year.

I didn't mean to anoint Galax in any way but the changes, especially on offense, are exciting. Having two very capable QB's is also a departure from past Dixon led teams. I also believe the feel around this team is vastly different than in recent years. In my opinion, we have a bit of "addition by subtraction" where some real knuckleheads have graduated and aren't bringing a negative vibe to the program, school and community as a whole. The kids representing this team are good kids and easy to root for. That hasn't been the case for the past couple of years! The defensive changes are a bit tougher to read. It's still a base 3-4 look but very aggressive in the middle with pressure coming from anywhere at any time. I think it will help the DB's given opposing QB's and WR's won't have as long to make a play down field. In years past, Galax DB's have had to maintain coverage for far too long. If they can get the amount of pressure of Glenvar's QB they did Friday night, they should be able to get pressure on anyone! By the way, Glenvar's QB is huge!!!!! The preview piece I saw on them suggests he is 6'-6" tall and 240 pounds. He was a load to get down!

Did you forget how bad you lost to Abingdon?

The play calling by Dixon against Glenvar was by far the best I have seen from him to date. The past few years he would run the same play multiple, multiple times a game. Ha in some games it would be the same play all the way down the field until he scored, just changed the blocking a little. He put those kids in a position as to WIN Friday against Glenvar. You had no idea what was coming and it all worked very well. If one of the QBs hadn't mishandled the ball 3 different times (all deep in Glenvar territory) would have had a different outcome. In the past it was a heavy dose of RB1 and a heavy dose of RB2 all while being pounded on by the line, then throw if needed. It was extremely fun to see what would come next. The same on defense. He ran more different blitz packages Friday night than I seen him run in the past 4 or 5 seasons combined. The lack of the afford mentioned cost them the game against Chilhowie last year. We will know more after the game against Radford Friday night. I am far from crowning Galax on anything or jumping on hype train as there is a ton of ball to be played. Although I am with Sixcat this team has different feel to it this year, and it is centered around Dixon.

For example-Ridgeview was 2-8 as recently as 2016. By 2018, they went 9-1. Now, their schedule is nowhere near as tough as GCs, GC has one of the toughest schedules around and Rick Mullins is one of the best 2-3 coaches in the area and GC cannot hope to get someone as good as Mullins, but that shows that with talent, you can turn around a program if you have a good-ish coach and a couple good classes of talent. I'll be shocked if GC couldn't be a 6-4 team next year or in 2020 if a good HC was hired.

But let's not pretend GC is Thomas Walker, GC was in the playoffs in 2016, won 10 games only four years ago. Realistically, GC has had two bad years in a three year run. It's not a death sentence. GC was relevant two seasons ago, it shouldn't be seen as a gigantic feat for GC to be competitive.

Thanks for listening, that problem should be resolved, we had to use a backup sound mic last week and it created a muffled effect and made us sound like we were in a hole. Hopefully all will be resolved this week.

Problem with Cuz's is never know how long will have to wait to get a seat if they are busy. Plus every time I ever went there the service sometimes is very long. Good note above though, King Kone some of the best hot dogs anywhere around. Love that place as well. Plus might as well throw in Red Flower for Chinese. Hands down best Chinese anywhere around that I know of.

There is only one place you need to go: The Bearded Moose. You will not regret that decision one bit. Just get there a little early, it can be busy on game night.

This is a bellwether game for Graham, and I think we’ll learn more about Graham in this game than we did against Bluefield. Tazewell is talented, but young. Tazewell plays hard for 48 minutes. I would like to see Graham come out and exert dominance, especially with the degree of difficulty lowered from last week. If we see the litany of missed assignments on the line, and the lack of imaginative play-calling we saw last week, this could be dicey. Graham should win, but Tazewell could conceivably pull an upset.

Graham could be their own worst enemy in this one, especially if they play flat and underestimate those pesky Dawgs. The fact that Tazewell never gives up until the final buzzer says a lot, and if Graham commits to many self inflicted turn-overs this could get interesting. I know Graham should win this one on paper, but i'm pulling for the Dawgs in an upset.

Depends on how the game starts off. If Tazewell takes care of their assignments, wraps up the tackles missed, and doesn't make costly mistakes then this is a game. I do think that Graham will take it because of experience and size on the lines but don't expect the Dogs to just let them run over them without a fight.
