Radford moved their game with Giles to Salem Stadium earlier this year if I recall... maybe it would get moved there?

Campus has been under new ownership for a little while now. They are leading the way over Hob Nob at the moment.

I have heard Rye Cove will be going into KY to face some Yellow Jackets. In this case you really will have to head west through the Cumberland Gap to get there.

And if your Pizza Plus is like the one in BSG, order the Philly sub. It's the best place locally to get a Philly. It's nothing like the actual Phillys with Cheese Whiz or whatever but I like the style you get better at a joint like Pizza Plus.

The first things a DB fan has to learn is how to deal with disappointment and frustration which according to the ones I know is all they have ever known. It is the most overrated sports program from top to bottom in the State of Tennessee!

Carter had 21 and Strong had 20. It was a tough game throughout. Abingdon led most of the way but lost Hungate before halftime to injury. He had 20 pts at that point. Northwood played very physical and hit big shots when needed. Abingdon didn't shoot well from the perimeter and didn't hit their free throws allowing Northwood to get the lead late. In my opinion, if Abingdon had shot 30%+ from the arc and 75% from free throw line in this game they win by double digits. If Northwood can control a couple kid's attitudes and stop their parents from trying to control the coach they can do big things this season. But, knowing the people involved, I would not be surprised to see this team implode by mid season. Abingdon will need their seniors to play better and 1-2 more kids to step up and contribute for them to compete in the top half of the M7.

I had a similar discussion a few weeks ago with some DB folks, I told them that DB has never won a state title on the field just in a newspaper, they didn't like it, but facts suck!

Jefferson County has one in 3A in 1987 and Sevier County had one in 1999. And Cloudland played in a Championship Game but lost in 2001..other than that it's been decades of futility Jeff County has 2 other runner-up finishes the last was 1997.

Allow me to tweak your analogy. You, a private citizen in your own car paid for with private funds give a person a free ride. That person's right to free speech is not protected inside your private car. You, as the car owner, have the right to shut down their speech and remove them from your car for whatever reason you decide. Once outside your car and on the street, the person can exercise their right to free speech.

With so much going on in our world today, this is what really bothers you that bad? It’s just like a tv or radio, if you don’t like it, move on. Around the 23 minute mark Tony Young checks into the game to "play halfback". Gotta love plays like that. When you watch old games like this it seems like kids today are much faster and more athletic. I'm sure Palmer, Brown, and Marcus would all disagree with that. Lol. I'm just glad to see our defense play today the way it used to play back then. It's been a long time since we've seen our defense play the way it is today. Kudos to the staff and the kids on that.

Central thumped Honaker last night in a benefit game. The Warriors can score, are aggressive, improved inside and are tenacious when it comes to rebounding. Throw in a superb fan base that's always behind the team win or lose and a veteran coach and this team will contend. Don't sleep on them yet.

Good hard fought game here between Graham and Radford in 1989. The sound seems to come and go on the video. Mitchell stadium was packed with cheering fans believe it or not. Today's games have the PGA Tour Event feel to them at times. 😂Especially after listening to the way things used to be. Those Graham helmets looked great! One week at a time. Go Graham!

I THINK what Grapeape was trying to convey was that fan attendance at the games is not why Akers lost his job. Akers lost his job because of his record, his attitude toward players/assistant coaches, and the direction the program was heading (falling). He literally started alienating players/assistant coaches on Day 1. For example........you do not talk openly in the field house about coaching at VA High being your dream job. GC does not have a history of running off head coaches. Counting Akers we have had 4 head coaches during the last gazillion years. Slight exaggeration. :) Several weeks ago someone, who said he was on the team under Akers, posted and talked about some issues with Akers. Unless you were close to the team, or are close to people who are close to the team, then you really had no idea what was going on inside the program. So many people, not from GC, have posted about the attitude toward Akers from the GC fans......without having any knowledge about what was going on in the program. I have attended GC games for 40 years. Played under Colobro. We have had years where the talent level was not exceptional, but we have always had coaches who could get the most out of the players. I know some will disagree with me, but our OVERALL talent level the last few years has not been great. Plus.......we have not had a coach who can get the most out of the players. You add those two together and you end up with 1-9 seasons. Factor in Akers' inability to build positive relationships with players/coaches and you end up with the current state of our program. I am truly surprised he lasted as long as he did. Sadly, I believe the School Board would have acted quicker if they thought they could find a quality coach, and if they had set their egos aside. Remember.........Akers was what......the School Board's third choice? Not sure how it works at other schools, but the AD at GC has no influence over who is hired. Have seen him thrown under the bus several times. Going forward: Most GC fans will tell you that there is not a coach in America that will restore our program in a year or two. The rest of our fan base needs to accept that. We need a HC and Assistant Coaches who will bring some enthusiasm back to the program. We need these coaches to be in the halls of the school encouraging kids to participate. I have no idea who has applied or who will be interviewed. Personally, I do not care if a "GC Person" is hired. I do think the position is a great opportunity for someone. You could be the HC of a program with a tradition that few in the state can match. A program that has a fan base starved for success, and who would eagerly support a HC who gets the program heading in a positive direction. Plus........you will have a School Board that wants/needs you to succeed after the Akers debacle. Even with our recent failures, believe we are the last, or second to last, AA Team from SW VA to win a state championship. (I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong....which happens a lot. :) )

If not for the turn overs, Graham would be playing Appo, and sometimes the best team don't win in football, its the team with the fewest mistakes. In this case, Appo had the turn overs, and Radford came out the winner, other than the turn overs Appo was the better team. Turn overs will come back to hurt you as was the case in this game, but I think Graham will be the better team with more talent, but once again it could come down to those pesky turn overs. Go Gmen!!

A few well placed 🧁s on the schedule is good for a team. They can’t all be dogfights, it wears a program down. Pick your battles (Literally). Also, a well placed off week could save your life.

Glad to know Coach Dixon can have his boys hang up their cleats and get out their tennis shoes for basketball. Yep just go ahead and pencil in Chillhowie to represent the West!
