  1. This is an honor he is truly deserving. His records were good. His contribution to his community was unequalled.

  4. From an old school fan. Coach hicks was a tough nut, no nonsense coach who didn't cut corners and held all players to a high standard. He expected the best of each player, both on the field and in the class room. A real gentleman, and a great example for boys becoming men. Don't understand why it took so long for this to happen, he well deserved it many years ago.

    Zac Ervin to Elon

Elon just hired Mike Schrage as head coach. Schrage was instrumental in bringing JJ Redick, Kyle Singlar, Mike Dunleavy, Jay Williams, Carlos Boozer and Shane Battier to Duke. He also began his coaching career as a graduate assistant under Bobby Knight at Indiana and later coached with Johnny Dawkins at Stanford. He spent the last four season as an assistant to Chris Holtmann at Butler and Ohio State. The guy can flat-out coach and has an incredible track record with guys of a similar skill-set to Ervin. Ervin could have made a far worse decision on who to play for.

I am pretty sure that a transfer has so many days to go back to the prior school with no punishment

  8. I organized the games and let me say I was so proud of the Va boys! For 12 years Tenn had beat the Va guys. But with the addition of Graham and Radford boys we broke the streak! Drew Baker and Cam Allen are amazing athletes. Quin Morton Robertson was on a level like no other. His 3 point shooting in the second half was incredible! Miles Jones with his height was a kicker too! His defense and put backs on offence. Ben Hulbert from Holston opened the game up with hitting back to back 3's. Livingstone of Eastside played well. Race Moir was a presence inside rebounding. So proud of all the Va guys. Todd Baker of Graham did a great job coaching Va. They beat a very talented NET team who takes pride in their basketball. For Va to win was a huge accomplishment to say the least. Thanks Havok for showing up and supporting our guys!

  9. Yes, they played quality minutes. But then again, so did everyone from both teams. Garrison of Union had an injury scare with his ankle, but he only came out for a couple of minutes and went right back in.

  10. Girls final. West 59, East 58. The West was the team that had mostly SWVA talent but a few NETN girls as well. Audrey Clark of State Line Rush and Bayleigh Carmichael of Daniel Boone were the MVP'S.

    UNION QB ???

Those words were never wrote, all I’m saying is you start looking over teams and you get beat. Didn’t Ridgeview go from 2-9 to 9-2 in a year. So why can’t these other teams do that.

    AOA

I've been coaching for over 20 years, heard all of the whining and complaining and done some myself. The simple truth of the matter is, most officials start with two strikes against them. The average fan, player and sometimes coach, wants to blame the officiating for everything. Doesn't really matter how proficient one is, any missed call or questionable call and even good calls are going to be met with harsh criticism. Sure, there are some that are better than others, but what they put up with night in and night out, isn't really worth it. No system and no amount of money would "fix the problem," so to speak. The simple truth is, people are always going to complain about officials, regardless of how good or bad of a job they do. Overall, I would have to say, that if I was handing out grades for officiating, I would rarely give below a B. Considering travel time, the B.S. that they have to put up with and the fact that they do a thankless job, it is a job that most would not want to consider, for that reason, my criticism is minimal and more constructive than abusive. Maybe I am getting more mellow as I get older, maybe I am more wise, regardless, my overall, long term on court impression of the AOA is positive. Not sure about how things are ran from an internal perspective, but I can't think of too many instances in which an official could properly be deemed "incompetent," or "unprofessional." What many consider incompetency is sometimes just inexperience. The next time you hear someone complain about the quality of offciating, tell them to go sign up and fix the problem.
