  1. 3 Tazewell County teams played 144 minutes of football last night, and allowed 0 points. I can’t ever recall that happening. There’s going to be some great football played in Tazewell County this season.

  2. Could be the best team Tazewell has fielded in several years. East Mont obviously wasnt the best competition, however Tazewell only played their studs, Harris and Jordan very sparingly. They have good depth at skill positions. The qb is decisive and makes good decisions, runs very well and had some beautiful passes that were on target. So I believe the qb play will be good. I like the way that kid plays. O- Line has good size and strength. Defense looks solid, hard hitting, linebackers have a good nose for the ball. Tackling was good (good form). Kicking game is much improved. They look like a good playoff caliber 2A team. Looking at their schedule, I would say 7-3 is very possible, (barring a meltdown and they stay healthy). and maybe a 5 or 6 seed in the playoffs with great potential to make noise in the playoffs. V-High may be in for a long night next week. They have a couple freshmen that are very athletic too. Also, the kids were upbeat and having fun. Lots of comradery on the bench. Lot of smiles on their faces from the minute they got off the bus. Good looking team

  4. Yeah... not hard to win that region when the only other real competition is Betsy. Sullivan East and Sullivan Central are in that region...

  6. Hard to keep that going when you lose as much as that dynasty did.

  7. It was a good showing and they had some good moments. Still don’t see a consistency on aggression. Seems like once something negative happens they dwell on it too long, need to forget it and move on. Overall I think they’ll be competitive more than what people think.

  13. After the last few years Narrows has had, I don't think there's no sneaking anywhere. Only Blacksburg has won more games in the Timesland coverage area in the last 3 years.

Graham/Bluefield Union/Richlands Union/Graham Union/Paintsville Union/Abingdon Richlands/Graham Richlands/Radford Richlands/Abingdon Burton/Eastside has been a competitive game. Abingdon/Tenn High Abingdon/Pulaski Gate City/Lee or Central - Those are competitive and can be intense

  16. Went to the game last night and wound up wishing we had stayed home. We stayed in the truck until 8:00, then waited in an on & off rain until kickoff only to watch an error and penalty filled first half that was really hard to watch, and we left at the half. Did anyone ever see how many total penalty yards there were? I'm not watching Elizabethton until tonight, but I'm guessing that Greeneville will finish the regular season at 8-2. This is the least physically imposing Greeneville team I've seen in probably 12 years or so and it really makes you appreciate just how great those last two Greeneville teams were.

  17. Winning that will be no problem. Interesting note on Powell they went 2-8 last year but had to forfeit 6 games because of an eligible player, the running back missed last night's game with injury, Powell has missed the playoffs the last 6 years, and that is almost impossible to do in the TSSAA.

    Scrimmage Observations

Thoughts on Richlands/Grundy. 1. Simmons is the QB. He started the game and played every series in the first half except for two. He looked much more poised tonight than he did last week. Went 7-9 for 181 and 4 TD. A couple of those throws could have easily been intercepted against a Bluefield or Graham. Also had a few footwork issues on a couple of throws. He also had a nice 28 yard scramble on the only time he really flashed his legs. He'll continue to improve as the season goes along. 2. Sage Webb has gotten faster I think. He had two TD's tonight. He was wide open several other times. Teams double teaming him have to be prepared for the other 7 receivers that caught a pass. Whited and Medley are TE/WR kind of like a Bucky Hodges role at VT. We lined them up outside a few times and you just know the fade in the endzone will eventually be thrown their way. Logan Altizer and Will Tarter looked good in the slots. Jake Altizer also looked good in the slot. 3. Running game needs work. Pass pro was just fine. But sometimes Steele was hit in the backfield at the handoff because the line missed assignments. It's a big line and they have the potential, just need to get better at run blocking. Steele looked good when he had some room. Also, give Gillespie the ball some. That kid's a bowling ball with knives. 4. Fle is a weapon. Anytime the Blues get past the opponent 45, points are on the table. He hit one from 34 that was good from 64. He also went 7 for 7 on touchbacks kicking off -- with two going through the uprights and a third bouncing off of the upright. 5. Run defense is STOUT. I can't see too many teams beating Richlands up the middle with the run. Pass protection with the starters looked okay, but it was also a Grundy team with an entirely new backfield. Either way, Whited and Phipps will be household names by week 11. Those are my general thoughts. I still say 7-3 is about right on the mark. Bluefield is Bluefield. But I think Richlands CAN win every other game on the schedule. We'll have to see. Getting Abingdon, Graham and Radford at home helps.

  23. It was actually more than that. That was the score after they started running the clock later in the scrimmage. Narrows scored three more times before that. Twice in the first 10 play series. Grayson first team didn't score. Observations 1. Narrows QB threw the ball extremely well and their receivers was open all night. I believe he completed his first 5 to 6 passes. 2. Neither team moved the ball extremely. Well between the tackles. Narrows ran at will on the outside with pitches and several big gains with the option. Grayson has very little speed and narrows took advantage of it. 3. Alot of the fans I spoke with in the crowd said that Grayson was running a different offense and defense than the first scrimmage. Although what they ran tonight was what they ran all year last year. 4. Grayson is very young and small Compared to their typical lines of the past. Struggled throwing the ball. Was out of alignment several times on D. Couple of times they never covered the slot. They will fix the alignment issues quickly and will improve as the season progresses. 5. Narrows QB was very impressive with his accuracy. Defense played hard and swarmed the ball. Narrows doesn't have alot of team speed either but was two to three steps faster than Grayson. Another year like the past two for sure. In my humble opinion

  24. Graham 27-0 over a much slower less athletic Cave Spring. Graham's defense may be better than last year's. They are solid. Rex Bradshaw and Dennis Palmer have them starting out much better than beginning of last year. I imagine they'll adjust as they need to though as season progresses but the are tough already. It's going to be brutal for some opponents they face. Several may not make it across mid-field too many times during a game. Offense obviously better than Cave Spring's defense but still needs some work. I think they can be formidable but it may take a two or three games to get things tightened up a bit better; hopefully, only two or three games. Lester is fast and I think when he finds open field, he's gone. Passing game needs accuracy though. I still say they're the team to beat in the SWD. All of this is my opinion, others may disagree.

  25. Narrows could be a 10-0 team this season. Yeah, they have Chilhowie, Giles, Covington, Parry McCluer to go through but I could see it happen this season.

  29. Kicker looks solid. 2 FGs that would have been good from 40 - 45 yards. Straight down the middle, good rotation. Lot of kids contributing. They look pretty solid.

  32. I am impressed thus far with the Bulldogs. Multiple kids capable of making plays, line blocking well, the qb can run good and pass. Nice tight spirals on most throws. Defense looks solid with good speed and they play physical on D. Good team.

  33. Just got this update from a Facebook friend at the game (former GHS QB). "G-Men up 27 0 early in the 4th. Reserves on both sides have been playing for awhile. G look pretty good, strong on D. O still needs some tuning. Cave is a much bigger school, but they're not a strong team this year. Gmen bigger faster stronger more athletic."
