    Gc vs hurley

A W is a W. Better than what we’ve been. We have some heart, fight, and desire. We will be patient. It’s not a 1 step solution. But we are headed in the right direction. We know it’s gonna take time. But I believe in Jeremy and staff. Rome wasn’t built overnight. Go Blue!

With the events the past 3 seasons, I agree that we are lucky. More blessed in a way. We are blessed to have gotten Jeremy back. A man who cares about the kids. That whole staff cares for the kids, a lot of blue blood now on that staff. I believe Barry Jones and Aaron Daugherty are the only none GC grads with Barry being part of the program long enough in the past to be a true Devil. We are moving forward. It’s going to be a long process but we have already made strides in fixing the program. The numbers are low, but those 33 kids have bought into what this staff is selling. I was told those kids were there every day this summer busting it unless on family vacation. I am out of town and didn’t make it last night, but I was told that they laid more hits last night than they did in the last 3 seasons combined. We will get better day by day. Little by little. We may experience losses along the way, but Jeremy and staff are instilling a winning attitude. We will no longer go into a game already down 21-0 in our minds. Do the little things right, and the big things will take care of themselves. The payoff will be huge in 3-5 years. We must ignore the outsiders and control what we can control. The outsiders better get their kicks in while they can. The days of “it’s just Gate City” are limited.

GC fans thought they had patience when they waited out Chris Akers. That was just the beginning. It’s going to take the better part of the 2020s to get that program back to being a postseason threat, if it can be achieved at all.

Graham/Bluefield Union/Richlands Union/Graham Union/Paintsville Union/Abingdon Richlands/Graham Richlands/Radford Richlands/Abingdon Burton/Eastside has been a competitive game. Abingdon/Tenn High Abingdon/Pulaski Gate City/Lee or Central - Those are competitive and can be intense

  8. What are your thoughts and predictions Lebanon was close to winning it last year with small numbers and young team. I think I it was 35 to 28 with Honaker winning it late. My predictions : It will be close again. Both teams look to be improved. I'm saying the home team wins, in a bit of an upset. Pioneers 28 Tigers 21 Good luck to both teams

Something don't sound right there, Gaty City beat Ten. High last week, which sounds like the Viking gave DB good game first two or three quarters?

  12. Maybe and that's fine. I said they had the potential to sneak in. Not that they definitely would. To be where they are at right now is something to be happy about. Going into the summer most people throughout the community had written them off. At one time there was a real possibility at the end of last school year that they might not have to numbers for a team. A few months later and the turn around is amazing. They are trying to rebuild the program, if that takes playing in your words an "abysmal" schedule for a couple seasons then so be it. If they can pick up wins against teams such as Virginia High, Marion, Central, or Tazwell who couldn't even beat a bad Lebanon team last year, then the playoffs are a real possibility, especially if they beat the Single A teams on their schedule. My predictions Anywhere from 4 to 6 wins is feasible if things go their way. They've not had a lot go their way the past 3 seasons, but things are bound to go their way eventually. I definitely wouldn't overlook them. They won't be the same cupcake team they have been in the past to most teams.

I agree as I had this conversation with someone just the other day. The GC program has been affected all the way down through LL. Once that happens it's hard to get those kids back as they now have other interests. It's not an overnight solution and folks need to be patient. I think GC will have more wins this season but they do have a long ways to go before relevance is reached.

  14. I would suggest Graham vs Bluefield but that's a bit of a drive for you. Hopefully a close game and great game play from both teams. The place is packed out every year, great Friday Night Lights atmosphere. There's a local mom & pop's pizza place called Pacific Pizza, prices are very reasonable & food is good; pizza is made to order & baked right in front of you.

  15. Lebanon beat Twin Valley 13 to 0 and Northwood 20 to 7. The Pioneers are looking much better so far this year. Last year they couldn't beat anybody in the preseason. I'm still seeing them get 4 or 5 wins, wait and see.

  16. The Coal Bowl between Lebanon and Honaker is always fun and generally competitive. It's at Lebanon this season, I'm expecting a close game. I think a lot of people are underestimating the Pioneers so far. They will be much better this season. I'm not saying they will be a top tier playoff team, but they might sneak in. For teams like Honaker, Eastside, Central, VHS, Marion, Grundy and Tazwell, I wouldn't overlook them on your schedule or you might get a rude surprise.

  29. I'm not sure if you're interested in out of state games, but Pikeville, KY will play Mingo Central, WV in the Pike Co. Bowl August 30th. I don't see how that game isn't a barn burner to be honest.
