  1. I knew the final score & was still a nervous wreck watching the tape. All I know is that I’m officially out of the prediction business. Anyway, the week 1 win probably increased week 2 attendance by 2500 or so. Legion Field will be rocking for the Falcons.

  3. It will be interesting to see what the Devil's can do against Abingdon. I think it's close, but have Abingdon winning at home. Abingdon better be good up front and get ready for the "Cahoon" because that's a rough running back. Also, I just ain't feeling it. As much punches, straight rights, uppercuts and head butts the GC fans and program have taken on here, and only a couple of quick congrats in one or two single posts? Na brothers, that's a bit weak. It's crowtime. I'm a GMen diehard, and credit to GC fans on here for playing it pretty cool and not lashing out or talking smack with the win. It's a pretty good sign if a non GC fan has to serve the crow. Are you kidding me? Statements something to the effect of, "it will take 10-15 years to get GC back on track." LMAO. I think a few of you know who you are. Show some sack folks. They deserve a bit more than a quick, "congrats on your win." They took far to many punches for that quick of a comment. I think you know who you are. I'm sure the Abingdon guy is on pens and needles this week with the "love" he's showed for GC on here. On a serious note, a huge congrats to Jeremy (a good friend of mine), and for the kids, the fans, and that town. One more crow type thing. If GC has turned it around and they knock off Abingdon or Union and bust out at 6-4 this year, for the ones who hammered them on the coaching thing, and arguing it didn't matter who the coach was, you can't win there? For those people, you are going to be absolutely crow stuffed and tasting tennis shoe rubber for a while, if, and that's a big if, but if Houseright turns the thing around in one season. If the Devil's are 6-4, did they magically find talent this year that wasn't supposed to be there for a decade. Surely, it can't be the new coach, right? Devil fans, I suspect you guys are going to be rooted against, whether open or in secret, for the rest of the year, and especially in games against Abingdon and Union. Why? Crow tastes terrible man. You can't even season it up or deep fry it to make it taste good. It's gonna be a fun ride. If GC beats Abingdon and Richlands beats Union, there's gonna be some serious nervousness setting in down that way, lol.

  5. I think folks are taking too much from the Hurley scrimmage. They flat hit Tennessee High in the mouth the week before and Richlands the week after. I'm not saying they're world beaters and I haven't even seen them in person yet. All I'll say is this bunch has confidence now, and still a huge chip on their shoulder. The town of Gate City has been starvin to death for a team that'll bust their hind ends for 48 minutes. I look for Legion Field to be rock'n and roll'n Friday night. Abingdon may win by 28 Friday night, but they could also run into a buzzsaw. Keep in mind, GC played them solid for the first half last year at Abingdon.

  6. I'm not seeing 9-0 for Richlands after last week but anything is possible I guess. Kicker probably best in the state but he alone can't win games.

  7. To be completely honest I think most people's reaction is....Is Richlands really that bad? I'm not saying that reaction is justified or not but I think it is the case. Now the season is 10 games and Gate City has several opportunities to prove they have what it takes and so does Richlands. I think most are tempering their enthusiasm if they are Blue Devil Fans. No one wants to get their hopes up too high over one excellent performance. But it is a very good sign to say the least for Gate City. On the other hand one has to consider that Richlands is not very good. If that is the case they could be 0-8 going into the Lebanon game. Only time will tell but I think most of us are hoping that Gate City is much improved instead of Richlands being way down because it makes for better overall competition and a more interesting season if more teams are good.

  9. I know and I agree. The bitter blood rivalry games are only fun if you win and sometimes not even then but rivalries like UHS/RHS are always well-played and great games with no off the field drama stuff. I'm not sure there has been a more competitive rivalry that has resulted in better games in the state over the last decade then Bears/Blues. Even when Richlands struggles and barely makes the playoffs, they are dogfights, a la the 2017 playoff game in BSG. Mance out-schemed Turner big time there, and the more talented home team only escaped bc of Mitchell and his athletic ability. Glad to see he caught his first TD yesterday, even tho they lost. With Richlands and VT both losing you had a rough weekend lol. could be worse, you could be a UT fan lololol

  10. The Refs were horrible in that Bluefield game. They have a lot of talent for sure. However, they had a lot of mistakes and penalties. That Bluefield - Graham game on friday, I watched was one of the most sloppy games I have ever seen. The teams played sloppy and the officiating was horrible. If Graham plays like that this friday, Tazewell has a shot at them. If not, it will take one whale of an effort by Tazewell to beat them. I think the game will be a little more physical then Graham will expect from Tazewell. Those boys at Tazewell have been working hard too and its starting to pay off.

Good luck to y’all. That was a barnburner of a game. Felt like the matchups in the mid-to-late 2000’s. Jeremy is the man for y’all. That team had heart. The last few GC teams would have folded after we got that onside kick. Looking forward to seeing how y’all’s season plays out. I love it when the Richlands/GC games are fun. Always a friendly rivalry (much like ours with Union) that make both teams better.

Tie game...2 seconds left...Richlands attempts a chip shot FG for the win. The snap is bad, the holder scoops it up and is headed towards the end zone when a defender gets a hand on his ankle. The holder tries to stretch out to break the plane of the goal line, but fumbles. A Union defender scoops it up and heads the other way. A Richlands player catches up with him at midfield and as he is being tackled, he laterals it blindly back over his head and another Union player scoops it up and score. In other words, a typical Union - Richlands game.

I wouldn’t be surprised. He’s got a lot more support than people think. Talked to someone this weekend that said rumor was be back either this week or next. Said couple assistants saw talent coming and wanted him out. I reckon he got hit with a baseball a year or so ago that limited his mobility. Thought it was time for their chance. Other stuff old news from same people over and over again. Like him or not, he produces. Wins with little to no talent. Probably would have put Burton in game last week. May have pulled it off.

  22. RHS had 2 bad snaps & 3 10-15 yard penalties that put them in impossible 3rd down situations. I’m betting Mance & Co get that cleaned up. My take: Richlands has the area’s best HC, a generational talent at kicker, and a TON of raw talent. They have the potential to go 9-0 from here on out.

  23. I think Bearcat Dad is right, we will see what Ricker does now an the new adjustments that need to be made. Also not meaning to step on any ones toes at Union or Ridgeview but unless Abingdon has a bad off night I do not see them losing to a Mnt.7 distric team, when they take the field against teams they just are huge. I cant guess scores no more only have fingers crossed an hope nobody from either team gets hurt, was afraid we lost our wideout/safety for the year Friday night, not a good feeling for a kid to get hurt. So good luck to both teams.

  24. I hate to say it, but JSB ends the Bearcats’ 5 game winning streak in the series. The Trojans kept it close last year, and looked like they may pull the upset, but adjustments were finally made in the Bearcat offensive play calling in the 2nd half. The two scores for the Bearcats on Friday night were on plays that were mirror images of each other. The #1 WR for VHS got behind the Tazewell defense for long TD passes, in a run heavy, Wing-T offense. Tazewell’s defense is improved from last year, but still missed a lot of tackles. I believe JSB’s defense is a level above Tazewell’s. I think the Bearcats’ running game will struggle even more than the other night. The Bearcat defense struggled worse than the offense. Their best player on defense Friday night was a freshman OLB. Now, Battle doesn’t have near the speed that Tazewell does on offense, but they do have some good athletes on that side of the ball. The jury is still out on how the new JSB coach can make necessary adjustments against teams not named Abingdon. I don’t count that game, because I don’t believe Abingdon will lose to a 2A team this year. If this new coach does as good a job as coach Stone used to, Battle could win this one big.

    Ab vs gc?

Yea, you would think, but numbnuts Tech hasn't offered yet. This stuff makes me so upset at my Hokies. They offer Parris a partial or preferred, then WVU comes and offers full. Smart for WVU. If your Tech, it's obvious. The kid is in your back yard. It's clear he can kick, and it's clear Texh wouldn't have to worry about a kicker for 4 years, but nope....the Hokies have to show the old folks in SWVA how big of school it is and how VT is at such an elite level that the offer isn't in yet. Meanwhile, they will recruit another 4 star athlete who played QB in Chicago and can't hit the broad side of a barn from within, and then that kid will transfer to Old Dominion in 2 years. That's my rant and enough posts for today. I am visiting Charleston, SC, and it's raining like a madman here and I'm bored and it's time to drop the mic for a few days. Go Graham High!

  29. I’ve congratulated them in a couple of places already. It was a stunning win, one where their best performance beat a very poor performance from Richlands. I’m happy for Scott County, and the GC fans that haven’t been complete obnoxious, unrealistic jerks. But overreaction is law of the land here. Let’s see if GC can sustain it against a daunting M7 slate. In terms of continuity, GC’s feeder systems are in substantial disrepair. That’s going to be the difference in being a region contender and a 5-5 playoff team in the 2020s.

Funny the only people talking about anyone on Richlands schedule other than Union are the folks that aren’t from Richlands. Y’all worry about the schedule. We’ll worry about fixing us and playing Union.

Regardless of the reason Richlands lost to GC, that, by no means, indicates a loss to Union. These teams know each other and always play their best. It will be a close, hard fought and exciting game as always. The Bear's coaching staff, players and fans have a lot of respect for the Blues.

  33. Chilhowie will win a lot of games, Marion won't. Pretty simple. I genuinely don't believe Chilhowie will lose a regular season game. They are far and away the fastest 1A team in this area, and I don't see many teams giving them much of a fight. Jonathan Gilley will be 1st team all-state by the time it's all said and done. Marion could improve if they simplify things offensively. They have a very talented stable of receivers who can make plays, but if things get too complicated, we'll continue to see turnovers on passing plays. Also, I would personally give #13 twenty-five touches a game. That boy is a load and a half. It was obvious that it was Smith's first game as a head coach, and I don't think the sky is falling, but some serious changes need to occur for Marion to even get as many as three wins this season.

  36. Graham had too many turn overs & penalties on offense. Lester was great but need work on offensive side of the ball. He can't do it all. O Line was weak although Brody Meadows went toe to toe with Martin. There were some great plays and runs on offense just sloppy and undisciplined. Defense held up well against a very talented Blufield but will continue to improve. I'm not predicting they play for a state title although that's my hope and think they have the potential if they clean things up (they could have won last night) but I still see them as forerunner in SWD & region.
