  2. Anybody hear from 1Wing23 lately? I just knew he would have something to say about Giles - Narrows game Friday night! Hope everything is fine. Maybe got sick from eating crow last week!?

  4. Back to the topic. Talent in the SWVA district over the years seems to come and go in cycles, although the number of students will effect those cycles. The industrial situation being what it is in our area has greatly effected enrollment so the talent cycles have changed. Most high schools have a down year about every four to six years, but the lack of incoming talent and low numbers may stretch the down year into several down years. The feeder programs as we call them, (little league) have dropped off and lack of interest has come along with the ride, so maybe it's time for eight man football, or consolidation.

  5. And that year in the state championship the opposing team tightened up on Davis and made Heritage beat them other ways and Heritage fell short of the ring that year. Best to develop some other game now rather than trying to find it later.

  6. I remember that! I also wouldn’t put it past Freddy Simon to do something like that. He’s proven he’ll RUTS when it suits him. He “avenged” the 57-21 loss to Wyoming East in 1999 by hanging 86 on them in 2002 (he had no problem putting up 69 on Wayne in the 2004 AA championship game, in a delicious twist). He also called in orders in 2014 for Bluefield to score a meaningless touchdown on the last play of the game in the Graham-Beaver game (76 points, all-time worst for Graham) because Graham wouldn’t lay down and die. All I’m saying is: give him a once-in-a-generation running back and a patsy on the schedule, and there’s about a 20% chance he’d do it.

  7. Riggs had very poor visitors seating also compared to Bullitt, and the playing surface is far superior. If BP would ever created actual locker rooms at least for the visitors and officials it would be an A+ game site.

Does it really matter how Burton would do? Union and Ridgeview should beat them they are bigger schools, so what does that prove? I think people from Ridgeview and Union need to worry about Abingdon and some of the tougher teams, will try to take advantage of the weaknesses that have been pointed out.

Yea, it is. Some were pretty creative and funny. And like you said, they're somewhere!

Well, that's a shame. Somebody has to have it saved somewhere. Nothing is ever gone forever on Internet, lol. (Some HS students should take note, you may delete your Tweets or posts but I guarantee someone somewhere took a screen shot 😂) .

Was Union’s football/wrestling promo video from last year removed? Asking for a friend 🤷🏼‍♂️😉

A little unfair with Ridgeview and stating something to the effect that he's all they got. Why is he running for 300+ per game and no other back in recent memory not running for 300+. I get it. He's incredible and the schedule so far shaky, but the 5 up front from tackle to tackle have to be good because opponents know he's getting the ball. I haven't seen Ridgeview, but I suspect their pretty good. As for Adkins, he plays for Ridgeview and no other team. I would often hear this argument with Michael Vick and M.Jordan and many others and the argument was, "if you take away him, it ain't the same team," or "he's all they got." The fact is, Vick played and was a part of VT, as was Jordan the Bulls, and at the High School level locally, Adkins plays for Ridgeview High. You don't get an extra 7 points or 10 points as an opponent of Ridgeview based on some rule that one player can't be to big a part of the team, or magically only a few of the TDs Ridgeview scores will count, because "if Adkins didn't play for them, "they wouldn't be the same team." It doesn't work that way.

  13. Yes he is going to be a good one I believe. Kid seems like he has a nose to the football on D. like to see how he is on offense more.

Bingo someone gets it. I would agree that Ridgeview is good, but last year they if I remember right they were called "the team to beat" and it was so called "their year" and on and on. I also remember them losing to an Abingdon team who many thought would only win 3 games after Reed left right when practice was starting. The same Abingdon team who everyone made a big deal about when they lost to a winless hidden valley( their last loss before the playoffs btw) They also got hammered in the playoffs in an upset if im correct. The Adkins kid is good no doubt and I'm sure they have other players but dont act for a second as If they aren't beatable and he is totally unstoppable.

Explain why? Sir Football God. Is It Because Trenton Adkins is all Ridgeview has. Cause. #16 can't catch a cold. Or because Ridgeview can't stop the pass. There not a complete dominate team. I'm sorry. Them other boys just ain't that good.

  17. It also hurts that VHS lost Barry Reed as their AD. He was aggressive enough to reach out to coaches like Wheeler and recruit them to VA High. He put in a lot of time raising money for their athletics as well. I don't believe they did a good job of replacing this position when he left.

  18. This young man has had an amazing start! No question. But Ridgeview has yet to play anyone that is a traditional power. I mean no offense to Central with that. This years team may very well be the best they have ever had. If Adkins can put those numbers up against Abingdon and Union, then hold the phone because he could really make alot of noise. Looking forward to when we play them. But for now, I'm ready to head to WV and see what Mr Lester and co do this year.

  21. Total games matters here. Davis and Heritage played 15 games (thanks largely to Davis) and back in the day, the most games a kid like Jones and P. Valley could play were 14. That 15th game matters as the playoffs have expanded. For Atkins and Ridgeview, Graham could be a possible (possible) difference in Atkins playing only 12 or 13 games versus getting to the state semis for game 14 and so on. If Atkins keeps putting up 300+ per game, he would likely already have the record through 12. I doubt he does it, but if the dude busts for 300 yds this week against what is likely a Ridgeview team that will have far fewer possessions than the first three games, then ya never know.

  22. #13 for RV is gonna be a STUD!!! Kid is just a Freshman with Great Size and Athletic ability. He is also there back up QB and I think plays some WR as well on Offense

    Gate City at Ridgeview

I think Gate City has a chance to win IF, and ONLY IF, they can control the time of possession and win in the turnover margin. Ridgeview has one player in particular that has a hard time fielding kicks and holding onto it once he does have it. That could play a major factor in this one.

Long ways away for Ridgeview and Graham. If both of them make it far enough to play each other, Graham has the speed in the secondary to play one one one with a safety over the top and walk a DB into the box at the snap giving them 8 in the box to stop the run. That's not a favorable matchup. To beat the GMen, spreading them out and having great athletes and speed at WR like Bluefield has is the way to go. But if your WRs don't have great speed and length, Graham will easily be able to play one on one in the secondary and stacking the box. I don't know about Ridgeviews sets on run plays, but it may be advantageous against a team like Graham to run the big boy from a 3 or 4 wide set which would take some of those players on opposing Ds outside of the box.

  27. The VHSL doesn't care about August 2018 numbers. They only care about the March numbers that were used to re-classify.

  28. Think what you want...but if we switched schedules even as bad as we are we probably 3-0 and I promise you narrows is 0-3 against our schedule. And a scrimmage? Really? Geez

  29. Does Narrows actually attack the weaknesses and the mismatches they have on the Giles D for once or out coach themseleves attack their strengths on O like they usually do in this game? Can the Narrows' D keep those 0 to 2 yard runs in the first quarter from turning into 7 to 10 yard runs or bigger in the 4th like they did last year once the linemen get gassed? Does Narrows counter to Giles' adjustments after halftime? The answer can be yes to all these but will they be? Usually the answer is no to most of these questions and until that changes it'll continue to be more of the same. I will call it like this, I don't see it working out unless Narrows has a 2 score lead after 3. It's going to close and it's going to be fun.

  30. You have to remember this rule in regards to kickoffs and punts. The kickoff or punt does not change to a possession until possession is gained. Touching the ball is NOT possession. So if the ball is touched anywhere outside of the end zone and then goes into the end zone on a kick it is an automatic touchback. The incorrect rule interpretation cost Bluefield a safety vs Graham in the 2012 game when Bluefield's punt returner touched a punt going over his head. He scrambled after it and inadvertently kicked it and the ball went out of the end zone. This should have been ruled a touchback but Graham was given a safety, Bluefield lost by 2 points.

  31. I could see Richlands pulling this one out. Coming off a bye week, fixing & adjusting some things, Abingdon also maybe over hyped coming in to the season. Richlands needs to stop relying on Forrest so much though. Funny how they can always get to the 20-30 yard line and then just settle for 3. Need to stop settling for FG's and get the TD's. Maybe set Forrest and tell the offense to learn to not lean on him so much.

    South @ Gate City

I’ve never seen a team with a smaller margin of error. If GC commits zero turnovers / penalties, they can play with anyone. Tackling must improve, but this, last, & next week’s backs probably have a lot of folks saying that. Tale of the tape: GC: 4 fumbles lost, 2 INTs, most (combined) personal fouls I’ve ever seen in a game that wasn’t played in KY.
