No one should ban my horn this season. We only get to blow it like 3 times a game due to lack of offense...

    Train Horns

What if I told you that I loved the Train Horn at Union weeks ago? It's what playing on the road is all about. Gotta learn how to play through adversity sometimes. Gotta learn how to deal with life through adversity sometimes. Can't keep making excuses for these kids and then wonder why they can't handle anything when they grow up.

  6. Just a little curious about this....are you saying that Coach Austin listened to you and used him that way you suggested? I just would like to know how many practices you go to, how many drills you run, etc, etc, etc,

  7. Defense was missing Isaiah Justice which probably had some affect against a team like Union. Plus Kastner being out week before against Giles & not practicing. You need all your D starters when playing against solid teams. Offense needs work as far as more disciplined play. Probably 8 TDs called back this year and countless penalties. I think both sides of ball are good and can make another run in playoffs but it's imperative to clean things up & stay healthy (Graham doesn't have depth of other teams).

    Graham's OL and changes

My G-Men do need to work on their running game in order to become more balanced. However, they are averaging 35 points per game. The adjustments need to be made on defense. If they are scoring 35 points in a game, they should win with all of the returning starters that they have back on defense. If someone would have said prior to the season that Graham would average 35 points per game for 10 games, most of us would say they would be undefeated after 10. The G-Men have only lost 3 football games in two years. Twice to Bluefield and once to Union. As a Graham fan and alum, I think we need to just let the coaches coach and continue to cheer for our team.

I have a 12-step program to help you in your quest to put that game behind you once and for all. (1) Go to the bank. (2) Take some money from your savings account. (3) Go to Lowe's or Home Depot. (4) Buy lumber. (5) Buy nails. (6) Buy a level. (7) Buy a hammer. (8) Buy brackets. (9) Buy screws. (10) Buy a screwdriver. (11) Build a bridge. (12) Get over it.

  19. Yes they have. And let's say it is because it could harm the eyes. And I agree with that. Could I shine the flashlight on my phone in their eyes? Could I take a flashlight and do the same? Why is it ethical to take away the sense of hearing from an opponent but not their sight?

  20. Honest question. Would it be ok for me to take a laser pointer to the game and shine it in the eyes of an opponent? If not. What is the difference?

    Graham's OL and changes

Gfan, agree with you. Doesn't have to be a whole series, but what about one play here or there on a 3rd and 3? I think it's an awesome idea. I also think we both see this happening come playoff time. The kid is a stud athelete. He can play hoops also. Watching Bluefield was all I needed to see about his talent. The kid got the best of Martin more times than not when Martin was on his side. Freddy was sharp in rotating Martin to different sides, but when Meadows and him went head to head, the young sophomore did just fine.

You want to talk rudeness of a train horn that is legal to have but act as if your illegal player in 1963 isn't a big deal? Isn't cheating rude? What if your illegal player had hurt a kid? This may be the most hipocrical thing I've seen on this board in some time.

    Graham's OL and changes

Lol how do you know that I did not seek prior approval from the coaches to attack them before posting this. Jk Now in all seriousness, I think we are saying the same thing. I am not advocating to totally switch the defense. I just think, a plan for when they run into this situation would help. That was a big game last week and we seemed slow to adapt to Unions game plan. If I am every team Graham plays, I am going to attempt to attack their D the same way. It probably won’t matter until the playoffs, but it would be nice to get a few snaps with a bigger line before then. So they are prepared.

  29. According to the article submitted by Grundy to the Bluefield Daily Telegraph on Sunday, Sept 8, 1963, the player later found to be ineligible scored the 2nd TD and kicked two extra points. I would say he had an impact on the game.

  30. The 1963 Grundy Golden Wave forfeited the win over E. C. Glass due to an overage player. I can email you the article if you like. To Grundy's credit coach Cummins reported the infraction to the Principal who then informed E. C. Glass and the VSHL of the infraction. They themselves were satisfied after their own investigation that the player in question was indeed ineligible and that Grundy would forfeit the game without the need of an investigation. The forfeit did indeed cost Grundy the 1963 Virginia state championship as the out of state tie to Man, WV would not have counted just as Graham's loss in 1962 to out of state Bluefield did not affect their standing in the VHSL.

Many people I know from Salem would say the same thing about unfair advantages. And a train horn didn’t make Salem lose in 1992. I don’t know about Union’s train horn. But I have researched Gate City and their train horn. How many people have complained about them?

Exactly. The kid has the size and is a decent athlete. They would be better off using him in a 4 or 5 man front against a team like union. clog the middle and keep your linebackers clean to make tackles. I don’t know if you need to run that type of defense all the time but if someone is going to run straight up the middle on you, then it seems like the best option.

    Graham's OL and changes

I don't know the history on Meadows, but even if he has no clue on defense, I would think that big body would take up quite a bit of space on the D line if he were used on short yardage situations or against a run heavy team like Union. I was looking for him to go in at some point Friday night, but he never did.

Speaking of excessive noise, a thing I have noticed over the past few seasons is the PA system playing more "canned" music, even to the point of doing so while one of the two present bands are trying to play. I say use the PA sparingly for "canned" music and let our excellent musicians provide the soundtrack.

I don't believe anyone is worried about a horn per say. Obviously, Union fans believe it's perfectly fine to blow it during live play while others disagree. However, it seems most of us want the horns, fans, cowbells, band, etc. any other time and loud as they can be. We all love a great Friday Night atmosphere and those add to it! As far as I can tell everyone from Graham on this board was complimentary of Union's performance Friday night and thought they played the better game. My thoughts are just because there's no rule against something doesn't mean it should be done. I guess as adults we can agree to disagree about blowing the train horn at the LOS.

I agree with you...It not like we're undefeated when UNION FANS make all the noise with Train & Air horn's, Cowbell's and any other loud devices... The G-men came to Big Stone last year and beat us...My opinion is UNION player's get fired up and player harder when the fans get behind them and cheering loud..πŸ—£πŸ™ŒπŸ’₯

There’s a difference β€” to me as least β€” in the droning sound of 65k vs the sudden blasts of a horn when a team is about to snap the ball. Maybe I’m wrong. Just the way I see it.

    2D Power Points

Do you mean if both finish with the same record? Keep in mind, head to head games mean absolutely nothing in the point system unless both teams finished with the exact same rating. Points are based on wins and losses and opponents' wins and losses. Basically, a strength of schedule. If Battle finished 9-1 with their only loss to a 1-9 Marion, we wouldn't say that Marion deserved to get in over Battle.

It's possible because of the points system, but if Battle were to get the nod over Marion despite losing head-to-head, it would just go to show how broken the system is.
