    M7 > SWD

Hmm. When was the last time anyone from M7 won a state championship?

  2. This was an interesting matchup between two teams with contrasting styles. Richlands came into this game with all the confidence in the world, and it showed early as they wasted no time going 65 yards down the field in a hurry after the opening kickoff. If I recall correctly their defense stuffed Central on their first possession for a 3 and out, and a Central punt for about 15 net yards made it look like a rout was about to ensue. But from there, it was mostly Central's game the rest of the way. They should have scored a couple more times in the first half but between a big defensive stop or two by Richlands and Central shooting themselves in the foot, the Warriors only came away with 7 first half points. Make no mistake, Richlands' QB is an impressive playmaker. His arm alone accounted for most of Richlands' offense as they had difficulty getting anything going on the ground. As the game went on, Central began to put more pressure on the Richlands QB and flushed him out of the pocket, or got a sack. Central also delivered some big hits on Richlands' wide receivers when they caught the ball in front of them. #4 took a couple of pancake hits, but to his credit he bounced back. Richlands was up 10-7 in the 3rd when he took a big hit and the ball was jarred loose and Central returned the fumble about 30 yards into the red zone. That was the turning point of the game. The Richlands' defensive scheme bottled up Central's running game on many occasions but the Warriors kept pecking away and broke a few big ones here and there. With the score 14-10 Central in the 4th and Richlands driving Central's Ethan Mullins picked off a pass and rumbled and bumbled about 95 yards for the back breaking TD. Richlands' ability to strike quickly with the pass kept them in it to the end of the game. Central's inability to get a kickoff to stay in bounds helped shorten the field all night long for Richland's offense but Central's quickness on defense kept pressure on Richlands' offense the whole game. All in all, it was an exciting high school football game to watch.

  3. Props to Coach Mance for calling it like it is. Too many coaches these days like to make excuses as to why their team lost, but he didn't and gave Central credit for making the plays necessary. Richlands is blessed to have him as their head coach.

Most teams on any given night can lose , M7 or SWD. One or two missteps or bad calls can change a game. SWD did have some weak teams this year. I have no clue if next year will be better. This thread reminds me of my daddy can beat up your daddy. We’re all semi-intelligent, we can count, M7 has three in the semis, SWD will have one. Do we really need a thread like this? Let’s focus on game threads. Let’s just hope whichever team from 2D wins the Regional Title whether it’s M7 or SWD, they bring that ring back to SWVA. Sorry... a bit of a ramble.

  6. And Mason Polier single handily won that football game tonight. He completely took over in the second half and late in the fourth quarter. He wasn't going to let Union lose tonight. 43 will hopefully be never worn again once he's done with it.

  7. Because it rained all day on Friday last year and Union had to move it to Saturday.

  10. Or that Martinsville is possibly the best team in WV history and Preston wouldn’t be competitive in Virginia 1A.

  14. Speaking objectively as a Richlands fan, Central beat both us and the refs tonight. The refs seemed like they wanted Richlands to win. Now, we had one or two calls on us that were iffy, but Central had 5 to 10 that were just mindbogglingly bad. Non pass interference calls, a both ways unsportsmanlike when only one player seemed to be throwing shots and mouthing, and several holding calls. However, Central is the better team here, do they beat Ridgeview? It would be nice to see, but Central is not as good as they looked tonight against us, I THINK. You could see from the start that going fast against Central was tearing them up, they could not play against quick play calling and getting right back to the line after the play was done. But, we immediately stopped it, slowed down, right when it was working or had a massive turnover, and I think that is because our kids were flustered when doing it. But to call Simmons one of the top five quarterbacks in the region... Not even close to a top five. Good kid, hard working player, and smart but not close to one of the best. He has zero accuracy at times, panics, and he would rather tuck and run instead of finding someone to pass too. It would help a lot though if you had speed at your receiver position to get open. A lot of his mistakes have been continuous throughout the year. The offensive line did not help him much this season though. It felt like they were overpowered a lot this year. Central's QB was amazing and could make a play out of anything, but give the devil his due, the defense was there to play, but got winded from being out on the field way too long and way too often. The running game was not gonna work against this team, look at their offense, they practice against that every day, you can't beat that. Just a few opinions, but all in all, this is one of the rougher "decent" seasons I have ever been through with Mance and the Blues. Glad its over, we will see what next year holds for us.

  15. Exactly. Very frustrating to be a Bears fan sometimes. I can shake my cowbell and be frustrated at the same time I guess. Lol

  16. THANK YOU! I'm glad I'm not the only person frustrated to see a kid constantly be put in a position to fail, trying to cover much faster slot receivers. It's not fair to ask a kid to do something he simply isn't capable of doing bc of a speed disadvantage.

I’ve said it all year. The only team from the SWD that deserved to be in the playoffs was Graham.

This season the M7 is stronger, last season the SWD was. It's been pretty balanced since the current districts were formed.

    4 Timeouts for GC?

I don’t remember if it was the first half or second but Union called timeout and one of the line judges pointed toward GC so the ref motioned it that way too but after he did that the back judge came in to clarify that it was Union who called the timeout. That may have been why the scoreboard showed GC was out of timeouts. Union called it near the end zone where the scoreboard was so I’m pretty sure it was the 1st quarter. If you heard the ref say that though then I don’t know what happened and if that’s the case we got lucky. I feel like our best chance was to try for the 2 points after we missed the first xp. anyways. It takes so much time to change out the shoe and we end up rushing the kick.

    GC at Union Part 2

Absolutely! Why not just bring out the chains? What's the rush? It wasn't quite as cold this week as the last week and in a game this close that could literally be decided by inches, bring out the chains to make sure it's right. GC kept their composure and really could have walked out with the W. Union finally finished off some drives in the fourth but until this, the GC D stood tough when needed. In thought the TD before the half was huge. Union had controlled the first half, GC was struggling to penetrate the Union defense but then GC opened up the offense and got that score and really took control. I'm also shocked there's a team around with a more unreliable kicking situation than Union lol.

    GC at Union Part 2

Yea, lol! There was a bunch of times where I felt like a measurement was needed or they took about 10-15 seconds before they decided to. If it’s within a yard I say measure but don’t think about for awhile and just give the first down. With the whole undisciplined thing, I’m more meaning Union has to play smarter. They are too talented to still be making those plays and hurting themselves. The teams from here on out will be a tougher match up and they can’t help them out with dumb penalties like they did tonight. GC was an extra point or two away or a completed pass away from stealing a win tonight.

  37. It would be great if they weren’t. I’d like to go to both.

  38. If you have watched Union at all this season then you had to know this game was going to be close. Doesn't shock me at all. Union better play keep away next week and STOP WITH THE DUMB PENALTIES. But that's not going to happen

  40. You can disagree all you want but it's been stated on this board before that he had goals he wanted to achieve and the coaching staff was letting him try and achieve them when most would have pulled him to protect his health and the teams ability to make a run deep in the playoffs.

    1st round surprises?

That's implying the East teams are better than the west. Outside of the juggernaut of Riverheads I do not believe that is the case year in and year out. Just my opinion.
