  1. Too many administrators and school boards give an ear to bad sports parents these days and if a coach is willing to let parents influence decisions as far as plays, who plays, how much time etc. , then that coach has no business coaching either. Coaches are really in a no win situation , you cannot please everyone and shouldn’t even try.

  2. No. You can't let parents mettle, that's a recipe for disaster. I know Crabtree has a coach for a dad, so that's a little different and getting his opinion would be smart but letting parents influence coaching decision is never the right move.

  3. I have yet to witness one HS football season where ALL parents were happy and satisfied.... it's a delusion....

  7. Bottom line Appo capitalized on Graham’s mistakes, Graham couldn’t capitalize on Appo’s. Graham left too many missed opportunities on the field. Personally, I think having a two way starter (Kiser) messed with Graham’s mojo a bit just as in the first meeting with Union when Justice was out. I’m not saying things would have turned out differently but it hurts any team when you have to replace a starter like that. Graham was a bit off today and did not play to their potential. The refs didn’t cost Graham the game either. Was their calling perfect , no; but it never is. Appo didn’t use any kind of scheme or trickery. They just played better today than Graham, that’s all it boils down to.

  8. I'm sorry but it's the right call according to the rule

  9. I saw a very encouraging video on the Appomattox Football FB page. The Appomattox players were comforting heartbroken Graham players. That is sportsmanship. It’s always the fans. If you notice, the guilty ones are adults in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. The players have nothing to do with any of the crap you see among any fan base.

It’s actually a new VHSL rule that has been in effect all season. VHSL wants it to be emphasized during the state games. Football teams can be given unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for violations. Bands can play between plays but not once players are in motion. All band directors were required to go to a training seminar over the summer to be educated on the new rule.

  11. Yeah. Cheryl is a good lady. Sounds like it at least. They had one guy say “Don’t pick up the flag! If you call a flag you need to uphold it.” I have watched some people on those feeds comment some silly bologna. One guy once said that Doug Smith should be considered greatest coach of all time. Okay. If he is still there 20-30 years down the road and wins 3 state championships every 5 year period then yes, he would be. A year back I saw one guy say the refs were screwing them out of the game in a game Appo was winning in a blowout. 🤦‍♂️ I don’t have a problem with Appomattox. They have a great thing going on over there. But some of the people I see have no idea how football actually works.

  12. Gotta give them their respect but damn can someone take these teams out 😂 And Appo is still a pretty young team so look for them to make a run again the next few years and I know without a doubt that Riverheads will.

  13. TBH, I’d take the Galaxy. Those offensive linemen from Persei 6 are a handful.

  14. I think you can actually "blind side" so to speak, if you actually lead with your hands and it's not a "pancake" block. I think the idea is to eliminate the helmet to helmet contact, and subsequently, the helmet to ground contact. Just my understanding of it.

  15. I think what he's trying to say is this. I'll use the punt Graham had called back as an example. When someone on the return team is coming back towards the punt returner and blocks a defender from his "blind side". Instead of laying into him now you are basically supposed to run in front of him and basically get in his way. I have seen some players now even go as far as holding their hands up in the air somewhat like a basketball defender. Football is a violent game by nature. Convincing high school kids to go full throttle all game and then hoping they slam on the brakes in cases like this can be difficult. But.......that's the rule. We have to adapt whether we like it or not.

  16. I’d prefer kids not get needless concussions just to feed an ego about “big hits.” It’s not the sissyfication of football. It’s making the game safe. I like the rule and the player safety it is bringing. You can easily run in front of that defender and he can’t make the play. You don’t need to try to hit stick him and risk a concussion. I’ve had several. They aren’t fun. And it’s hits like some of these crackbacks that make me serious question if I’ll let my newborn son play the game.

  17. I may be wrong but I'd like to see Bunch get a shot. If that doesn't work out put a good athlete at QB and try that. It worked for us in 2017 and seems to be working well for Graham.

Why did they not give Greg Tester coach of the year for bringing the Wing-T to Central and saving Owens’s job.

  19. If Wise underachieves and stinks next year, it'll be because coaches start listening to parents. Never listen to parents.

  20. I’ve never understood all that school transfer stuff. How can kids not be loyal to the school they grew up in? That’s hard for me to comprehend. We don’t have very much of that in this part of the region in football, anyways. Sometimes in basketball, but its mostly the parents, not the kids. And how many of these transfers go D1 anyway? Seems like a lot of unnecessary drama to me but I may be missing something. And as far as Burton, they should be happy with what they did this year, especially with all that off field stuff at the beginning of the season. Their coaching came along way from game 2 to the playoffs and so did their team. I’d be proud to have my kid on that team.

  21. You're right man... I can't stand being in the stands when we're losing... I have already hinted the reasons we lost that game and it had nothing to do with the officials.

  22. Ridgeview shouldn't be considered a favorite at all until they can devise some kind of backup strategy for when someone can contain Adkins. Until that happens, then we're simply going to be a one win and done team.

In the regions yes, I agree. There are way too many variables between regions as far as PowerPoints, once at state semifinals, I like idea of each team traveling equal distance on a neutral field that’s a nice facility. Not all venues are created equal. For state playoffs, venue & field should be top notch but we can agree to disagree on my original comment.

  27. I'm not....the highest rated team earned the right to host and should host the game

  28. I think making that long trip the day of the game hurts the visiting team also but just my opinion

  29. Yeah I was afraid that would hurt them. He's a starter both ways. When you're a small 2A school and don't have a ton of depth that hurts.

  32. Congratulations to Appo on executing a good game plan and playing good disciplined football. Congratulations to Graham on another great season. Great kids that have been a lot of fun to watch for several years. For those seniors that played their last game.....thank you. Wimmer, Kastner, Edward's, Lester, Booker, Adkins, and company yall have been great. Thanks to the coaching staff for the countless hours of dedication and for putting these kids in the position to play at this level.

No worries. I’m grateful for you guys streaming it for us. That’s not an easy task to take on. I know one person doesn’t represent the entire fan base. And yeah there may have been a few late hits coming in which I don't condone. Good luck at state though.

The clowns on there make me face palm sometimes. Again, the woman who does the feed seems like a good person. But if I have to roll my eyes at some comments people make one more time, I will look like Undertaker.

  35. I know but there are questionable calls every game on both teams...but the losing team always points out 1-2 plays(against them only of course) and go on and on about it
    1 point
  36. There were some questionable calls but Appo was just the better team today. Graham shot themselves in the foot by calling questionable plays on 4th down in Appo territory twice.

  37. No offense to anyone but why does just about every team when they lose automatically blame the refs? Guess it's just the easy out huh I wasn't at game today and not pointing anyone our so don't get upset anyone

  41. Great season G-Men. I was there in my Spartan attire cheering y’all on. Appo just out-coached Graham and were better prepared. Yes, there were a few bad calls but Graham made too many mistakes and failed to finish drives deep in Appo territory. I’m not even excited about next week’s state games now...Riverheads will likely blow Galax out of the stadium and I gotta watch Appo likely win their 4th title in 5 years.

  46. A lot of athletes running around on the field for appo. Graham looked sluggish and couldn't capitalize on opportunities. Credit to Appomattox. They played like a determined, focused and mature team. Appo defense did an outstanding job of nullifying Lester's legs. Great defensive scheme. GMEN have represented SWVA well. Proud of the coaches and players.
