  1. 5 game post season is too long. If you make the championship game, you've played a whole extra half of a season. I say start the season a week earlier and cut the playoffs to 4 games...championship games could be played on the last weekend in November. Don't get rid of the bye week, and don't allow a bye week before the fifth game of the year. That way kids can "refresh" a bit, especially if they are heading into post-season play. But that's too logical for the VH$L to figure out....

My thought: Calling a person “McAnus” belies what appears to be a 6th-grade intelligence level for the OP.

  5. Some very interesting points brought up in the article. State enrollment figures have been going in opposite directions for two decades. Larger schools are getting larger while smaller schools are getting smaller. The commonwealth of Virginia, VDOE and VHSL should have been working toward possible solutions years ago. But that's a whole other can of worms. Personally, I believe a 5 game postseason is too long. It should be reduced by a game. I know that likely means some very good football teams (especially in larger classifications) get left out of the postseason but it is what it is. I'm also not opposed to shortening the preseason by a week. I believe a combination of those two would be the best solution for the greater good. Probably won't be a popular opinion though.

  6. Have you ever been to Robbinsville, NC for a game? I drove Cherohala Skyway from the Lost Sea attraction near Chattanooga over to Robbinsville back in the summer. As you enter Robbinsville, there's a sign stating how many 1A state football titles they've won, so now it's on my bucket list to check a game out there someday.

    2019 TSSAA Playoffs

Being retired really helps, although we've been doing this for quite a few years and have been to games in VA, TN, KY, WV, GA, MS, NC, SC and FL. Really love the Florida games because of the raw athleticism on display most nights, but the atmosphere in NET & SWVA is hard to beat. So many of the bigger Florida schools will have really nice facilities, but very little turnout. Cocoa (4A) and Vero Beach (8A) are exceptions that we've found, probably because they are the only schools in the community.

  10. That's the thing with the coach at central. He was on the hot seat for poor performances in the past. Quite a few wanted him gone before this group of central kids started. He had to start listening or be let go.

  12. Actually in some cities and counties where gun ownership has increased 200% in some locations their gun violence crime has decreased by 50%. The editor Mariette DiChristina has at times like most let their politics guide their data
