I'd rather play hard and get beat than to have a trophy handed to me. Just my 2 cents. Proud of the GC kids! Edited to say ..... it's no fault of the other schools and athletes. It is what it is. They all had great seasons.

The state requires an interview period. All qualified candidates must be interviewed. Interviews are not over. Everything right now is just speculation. The board met just 2 days ago, I would guess that the public won't know until at least the next meeting, next month. Unless they hold a special board meeting. To hold a special meeting over a football coach would be unusual. As mentioned before, usually candidates are interviewed at the board office, send a few of their finalist to the school to be interviewed and the school Principal makes a decision and recommends to hire. At least, that's what the process in most districts. Would not at all be surprised if Wells ends up the coach, but need to let the process work itself out. There is no coach until approved at the School Board meeting.

Even through Radford didn't make to the final, they lost 2 D1 prospects and 7 seniors total from last years team and still almost made it back to the championship. Someone said it before "Coaching means everything"

100%. Didnt think GC stood a chance....they surprised me with the way they played and battled. I know the other teams couldnt help the circumstances....but getting a Co Champ trophy is too much like a participation trophy (without even participating). Congrats to the Devils and congrats to JM....they were just a force this year.

I feel sort of bad for 2A losers. I mean if the Governor had been a little more timely with his declaration we could have had another set of co-champions. The Gate City girls can tout they are the true champions! They proved themselves on the court. I guarantee the co-champions would have preferred to win outright too. I know this is serious especially for elderly and those with weakened immune systems other health issues but have mercy. The media has made the panic a 100 times worse.

Classes 3-6 played on Friday and Saturday will only have immediate family members and credentialed media. Not sure why Classes 1-2 today are still being played today with normal attendance. Doesn't make a lot of sense.

I did see on the website of the Tazewell County school district website they did call for an special board meeting for the 26th. Could be related to the coach, could not be. “The Tazewell County School Board will hold a Special Called School Board meeting on Thursday, March 26, 2020, at 9:00 a.m. at Central Office. The purpose of this meeting is for personnel (closed session) and for a budget work session (open session).”
