  1. Why is that a joke? I think it’s actually the absolutely correct move.

  2. There’s no doubt in my mind that Riverheads would have been the East’s representative in 2A last season. That being said, the real state title game was played in Appomattox the week before. Though Riverheads is so fundamentally sound, you can out-athlete them at times if you have equivalent discipline. Galax did it, and Graham would have last season. Appomattox runs a similar style but would have just beaten them up on the lines. Either school would have beaten Riverheads by 14+.

  3. Not a chance. That Graham team was as scorching hot to end the year as any from SWVA I’ve seen in a long, long time. They wouldn’t have beaten Graham last year either. I still think if Appomattox played Graham 10 times last year, Graham would have won 7-8 of them. But alas.

  4. Oh I'd say 2A could handle them...Giles destroyed them in 2013...glenvar did in 2014...then they decided to drop to 1A with their enrollment hmmmmmm I'm sure Appomattox would beat their brains in the last few years too

  6. If Adkins wants to transfer, why not go all out and spend a semester at IMG? That's a giant step up in competition, facilities and coaching. Could be huge for his development.

  7. No, the VHSL’s going to prohibit border jumping. You play in WV, you lose VA eligibility.

  9. Brian Woodson @BHCWoodson Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee has signed the executive order that allows high school contact sports to return, with football and girls soccer season allowed to start on time. Whether or not this actually happens will be up to respective school districts across the state. @BHCSports great state

  10. Fair enough. Now if we could just talk them into stepping up to those challenges and get them the hell out of 1A. With Dixon leaving Galax they have absolutely no competition at that level now.

  11. Out of state transfers to Virginia are immediately eligible to play. Playing a sport in the fall and then transferring and playing the same sport in the spring would use up 2 of the max 4 years of eligibility. I guess it would be ok for an underclassmen who didn't want to play as a senior.

  12. Playing Devil's Advocate here.... Probably more to do with the fact that Giles has an enrollment of 70 more kids than the largest (on the original list) Class 1 school. Based on pure speculation it looks like decisions about dropping down (aside from geography) may have been driven by an arbitrary percentage difference in the schools that were classified higher as compared to the top of the classification that they were seeking. And that number may be 10%. (Deriving that by comparing Lebanon -- and their successful request -- to Northampton as opposed to Giles.) I know that a few of the coaches at my local school favored a request to drop from Class 3 to Class 2. And we would meet that hypothetical 10% threshold right now. However we are also seeing some population growth locally that would bounce us back. So long story short, we didn't pursue it. I'm aware of the shenanigans associated with the ebb and flow of players among Augusta County, Waynesboro, and Staunton. But I will stick to the opinion that enrollment isn't the argument that peels that onion.

  13. There is a certain QB that played at Tazewell one season. Transferred to Bluefield and played two games the next season. Mid Season transferred to Graham and played in there remaining games. How is this different?

  14. This. If you make the decision to cross the line, then that’s the decision. No coming back and playing in VA.

  15. He didn't say they were dropping classification, just moving to a new district. Take Abingdon for example. A 3A school playing in an otherwise 2A district. Edit: Sorry, didn't see the post in the other thread. Guess they are moving down. Not sure how. Edit 2: An excerpt from the Kingsport Times article:
