New she was gonna be a good one. Got to witness her vs. Union for 3 years striking everyone out

Watching some of their games this year I noticed their sportsmanship several times. Pretty impressive. Appomattox Football kinda reminds me of Grundy Wrestling. When you go to Grundy for the Aggie Skeens or a dual there's not a person there that doesn't treat you like family. By the time you get back to Oakwood you realize everyone on the team got pinned in the first or second round and you somehow have a smile on your face because of how nice they are.

Good on Holston and congrats to Galax. It's been a long time since the Cavs' state tournament runs under Matlock, and they've been the underlings of the Hogo for longer than they'd like to admit. Hope this gives them some experience to stay competitive the next couple of years. Good to see one of the lower enrollment VHSL schools swing above their weight class, and hopefully the Tide can pull the upset against Riverheads.

A stark reminder today that our region just doesn't have the speed that Appo has. It's all about the Jimmies and Joes and boy do they have them. At the end of the day though I'm fiercely proud of this Union squad. To be Region D champs and a state semifinalist in a rebuilding year,to be 3-2 and make a run like this. It sure bodes well for the future. If you would have told me how far this bunch would make it entering the season I would have taken it in a heartbeat.

And I don't know about you guys on the board, but I think it's total BS that a private school that can legally recruit can play in the same league as public schools that can't. Granted, do they recruit like college programs do? Generally no, but it's still a legal advantage their public peers around them don't have. They need to be in the private school league with Roanoke Catholic and North Cross. Just like in WV when you see Wheeling Central Catholic competing for state titles in single A in football and basketball all the time.

And look at where we are today, playing for chance to go to state✨🏈 I just want to say I'm proud of the Union bears for what they've done through this situation with covid-19. I think coach Turner and his staff will put the best game plan together today to give us a shot to win ( just look what they've done the last 2 weeks for us) The union fans will have to do their part today and be the 12th man making lots of noise, Bells, Train horns 🚂🚃 and more🌧 Go BEARS🤞🏈

Congratulations to Holston on a great year. Very inspiring team, especially, after watching the interviews this week. They played Galax tougher than most thought they could. Good luck to Galax next week as the Tide make another state finals appearance in search of their 2nd championship.

Watched the first half of this game. Was really impressed with the sportsmanship number 4 for Appo was showing.

thats not an excuse. its an observation.ivee been hearing how great this central team was supposed to be with this group of kids but yet they have not won a district or regional title. so in my observation its same old wise. they win a few games just not the big championship games. again my observation.

I kinda thought that's what this board was for. Before said game all of us experts what each team must do to win. Usually consisting of the obvious. Don't turn the ball over, limit penalties, block, tackle, etc. Post game the winning team normally talks about what this kid or that kid did so good while the losing team talks about the turnovers, jersey tackling, etc. At least thats been my experience on here. I mean let's be honest would this board be any fun without @EH31 betting Frosty's or @UVAObserver betting the farm, or @jarhead24219 just being jarhead? Gosh don't forget @cityofRavenwho has the best dry and sarcastic sense of humor period.

They have been nothing but class each time we've seen them. Great program,great fans.

Union—what is there to say, GREAT season, who else can say that they Won a State championship in basketball then won the region in football with so many underclassman. To the Seniors you provided us with memories that will last forever—-Thank You, and to the jerk on here, yes you know who you are.....you waited 3 weeks to say you were right, enjoy it but Union is still Region D Champs , and State Champs and that sir you can’t change....see you in the fall

Man time to start complaining like Central and Graham folks did not all of them did. So if Union didn't have 3 turnovers and Appomattox wasn't so dang good we could have won. Just poking fun but dang Appomattox was the real deal and just think what they would have done to Central or Graham.

Next year, Graham will be a major problem. Draft has a senior laden team. Buckingham and King William who didn't compete in the playoffs both had senior teams. (BC didn't play at all.) Poquoson had 2 senior starters and returns nearly the entire team as well as Nottoway. Radford will be slightly better than this year. Don't know about Dan River. Union, with it's bigs up front will be better. Appomatox is very deep on their lines. It's not just the athletes. When you take a QB sneak and the kid runs 70 yds, that's lineplay, and Appo is so deep. They can constantly rotate 8 kids up front and get the same results. Appo didn't do anything fancy against Radford, Glenvar or Union. They just ran the ball down all three opponents throats. They are fast for sure, but their lineplay over the years has been grossly underestimated.

I’m not sure that this would be my takeaway from this game. To me, this is what happens when the 4th best team in a given Region rides a miraculous wave to the Region title, then faces a dynastic team that is their superior in all facets of the game. There have been better Appomattox teams (2016, 2017, 2019), but this game was never destined to be truly competitive. This reminds me of 2004 Tazewell in that regard. Appomattox loses a healthy chunk from this year’s team, more than both Union and Graham. I don’t think it’s as simple as chalking up the next 2 years to Appomattox. Next year should be fiercely competitive.

I just took the Richlands job and we will go for it on 4th down every time, onside kick every time and players will either play offence or defense no 2 way players, And as a Hokie fan I hope Wells is named special teams cord ,,,,,,,,,,

Ah we could gripe about us not using Gibson more on slants and such that are so often available. He has serious YAC potential as a WR,but we've forgotten him:(. As for Central being lackadasical that's a ton of arrogance there. If Union doesn't get your attention after going to Mitchell and ousting the team that knocked the Warriors out last year I don't know what does. Seeing a screen from our team lately is as rare as Haley's comet lol. I agree with you on the Central coaching though. It would have been interesting had that talent been at Union. Miserably short of potential there, but then again we're all armchair coaches here:)

I think more than anything Central was outcoached. Travis had them more confused than a cat trying to cover up poo on a marble floor:) In my opinion that was his finest coaching to this point. He had his team focused and very well prepared.

So far the best excuse I had heard this week from the Wise guys was that a Central star got drunk the night before the Union game (and they're throwing him under the bus HARD-after all he did for that bunch). That was REALLY reaching:). If Union and Central played 10x they'd most likely split. Both are good teams. No excuses need to be made

No, that's not what I meant. Fair observation.... we were talking about saying "IF" such and such would have happened..... which is making an excuse. Unchained had said that guys from Central were saying "If we hadn't fumbled......" (excuse) .... and he had said no one from Union was making excuses. I was jokingly pointing out that they had made excuses, but then was called a liar. Someone said losers always make excuses and I agree they tend to. We can say "IF ______ had happened" all we want, but at the end of the day, "_____" did not happen. Anyway, it boils down to this, no excuses need to be made for either game. One team outplayed the other when it mattered most and life goes on.

Yeah he was kind of a jackass there at the end wishing Galax ill will. You shouldn't be an announcer if you can't keep your emotions in check when losing.

Each team with a long touchdown called back for a silly, unnecessary penalty. Each team with a dead ball, personal foul. Each team with a turnover (Holston with 2 if you count TO on downs). Very sloppy game thus far for a state semifinal. Which one has to believe benefits Holston. The longer Galax let’s them hang around, the harder it is to put them away.

Go back and read the Union Central thread from the first meeting... plenty of excuses in that one 😂 Hats off to Union and good luck to them. Better prepared and out executed in all facets of the game including coaching.

I'm still going to be rooting for Holston. They are "the new kid on the block" going against Galax, but hey, in this past year of "unusual" and "unprecedented" happenings, I'm hoping they walk away with the win.

The only reason they offered it to you was I declined it. I have an ex -girlfriend that lives in Raven and I can't afford 4 new tires every evening:)
