One week until football practice officially starts! Am I the only one gleefully anticipating that pigskin getting tossed around? Anyone going to be doing drive bys next week just to get a glimpse of the boys on field? I admit I probably will 😂! Ain’t no shame in my game!

I don't think it will make much of a difference. It is a nice option to have for those who cannot make it to a game. Most schools do well to pay for the refs and pay for the other sports with gate money from football. The Booster Club and fund raisers is where most schools get enough money for new uniforms etc. I was taking up money for a soccer game several years back and somebody complained about spendong $5 and asked where "all the money was going" (like I knew). I was just volunteering. I told the old grouch that the money we took in wouldnt even pay for the refs for that game.

Don't get me on my soapbox here haha. Some involved thought that they could use this a huge revenue tool for the program but from my understanding they only make pennies on the dollar from each subscription that is linked to a particular school. All this after pushing local radio to the brink with their outrageous broadcast fees while barely providing more that a plugin in some places (some schools are better than others). These same schools are at the same time asking for free air-time to promote anything and everything not athletic related....

At least we do have some incredibly intelligent posters on this board...

Can't wait. I'll be at as many scrimmages as I can get to and watching as much as possible on NFHS. Some teams are starting this Thursday, some are waiting until Monday.

NFHS is a total scam for the schools. My understanding is the schools that signed up with NFHS when the pandemic started won't even start getting paid for like 3 years because they were getting the camera systems and such for free. Facebook live is the way to go.

Each school gets 10% of the monthly subscription fee for each subscriber that designated that school to support. If they didn't designate a school to support then nobody gets that. For the regular diehard fans, I feel confident they will be in the stands. For the fair weather fans, who knows? Maybe the school gets that 10% that they wouldn't normally get, or maybe those "fans" attend even fewer games. They'll find out for sure after this year.

I think Russia is actually making the posts, then Facebook is deleting them. But in all seriousness, I believe Region D will end up like this. 1. Graham (Couple of new faces that will contribute + Bradshaw who did not play in Regional Finals). 2. Union 3. Central 4. Ridgeview. I think Tazewell, Richlands, Gate City will be 5,6 and 7 (No particular order). Not sure who will be the other team to make it in.

A fractured school board botched the coaching hire after Bill Houseright left... Robbie Norris was hired and the board changed his arrangement about his assistant coaches he was bringing with him and then Justin Hilton turned them down and it was into the bushes they went trying to find a head coach. Houseright the elder knew of the talent hole coming and bailed. I don't think any coach living or dead could have gotten any more wins out of the talent but Akers done a scorched earth policy at Gate City it may never recover from it. Like I posted above they have given me the ultimate thrill of seeing 4 State Championships in person and wining 5 overall and some schools would see their souls just for 1..if they never win another I will always be a fan!

It is easy to hit a low hanging piñata. And that is what GC football is right now. Will it ever return to the glory it once was? Who knows! I know as a fan they have given me so much pleasure that I can endure the pain. Gate City has lost all it's big money boosters and all it's elite athletes play other sports now and the losing has created a sense of apathy. Football evolved and GC football did not and hence the struggle. So when you combine apathy, lack of athletes and no financial support you get what you have now. Always remember Football more than any other sport runs in cycles and the cycle at GC is down right now, and the board is a little more boring without the GC fans!
