  1. I think they have changed their protocol. I heard from one source last week exactly that of quarantining all regardless. His wife is a teacher so he would know. But then on Saturday I heard from another teacher at Graham Middle that wasn't the case anymore. Only those positive or non vax get quarantined. This is also echoed from a teacher at Tazewell Middle. Bottom line, I think it's a moving target and the school board is left in the middle trying to do what they think is best with neither side being happy with whichever way they go. I know we had players out on quarantine Friday so not sure why Graham had to shutdown. If I had to guess possibly an over reaction??? I agree, hope the game is played regardless the outcome and will say the same about all other teams as well. This is the last chance for the majority of players in their football career. Let's let them have every chance they can to make the most of it.

Damn those Covid Cavs have one helluva team. Reminds me of Appomattox the way they shut down a team

  3. I just hope the game gets played. All this Covid ramping up in Tazewell County & surrounding areas makes me wonder. Another county had a JV and player test positive but didn’t quarantine the entire team (per parent of kid exposed). I wish Tazewell County wouldn’t overkill on the quarantining (quarantining vaccinated kids & adults) It makes no sense to cancel all practices but yet expect the athletes who aren’t quarantined in school for class indoors during shutdown of athletics but can’t practice outdoors. Hopefully, Covid spike takes a downturn and more common sense takes place.

  5. Not practicing or playing will affect anyone. Doesn't matter if it's the best team in the nation, they will be rusty. Tazewell will need to come out and play mistake free and jump on that momentum and ride it for a chance. Is it possible they can pull out a win? Of course but reality is Graham will shape it up after about a quarter and a half and take over the game. Tazewell showed signs of a great future ahead of them and they should get better as the season goes on. The line needs work on both sides, more so on offense. Creasey shows that can be a great QB and the future is bright for him. Freshman mistakes I saw and those will get cleaned up as he grows. The important thing is not to get demoralized with a few of the games they play this season (Graham, Bluefield, Riverheads) Let's hope all the players that can be available will be and they give it their best effort Friday night!

Well masks mainly prevent against respiratory droplets. Hopefully those farts you are breathing in aren’t wet. If so I would be more worried about e. Coli and other fecal born diseases.

  8. I reckon a kid farted in 2nd period today. Whole school is quarantined for 2 weeks now.

    Radford @ Gate City

I agree on Marcell. He's got to keep quiet and play ball. To much extracurricular stuff after the play. No question though, he isn't playing QB at the college level. He has defensive back written all over him. He's actually 6"2, 6"3 and runs a 4.5. He's thin now, but when he grows into that frame with a touch more weight, he's going to be special in my opinion at the next level. You might be right about George Wythe and maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I have been watching to much football. I have no idea. I thought we looked pretty good, but I'm a homer so who knows. Gate City will tell us more. It's hard for me to gauge who is good anymore. For example, I think Richlands looks fantastic from what I've seen so far, as in....their best team since they lost to Appomattox in a game they should have won many years ago. I take it many Richlands or SWVA fans probably don't see it, so this causes me not to trust myself anymore. Now...if Richlands beats Union or plays Union in a nailbiter, I will be on to something.

http://www.hudl.com/v/2FgPLE The ball looked to be underthrown. The Jenkins kid is the fastest kid I've seen on the field in High School since Cole Beck from Blacksburg. Not saying Jenkins is the quickest or best player or anything like that since Cole Beck, but regarding straight line speed, the kid is alarmingly fast and the fastest I have seen since Beck. They clocked his 40 at William and Mary using the laser at a 4.38. A true 4.38 is blazing fast. The real kicker for me was how he ran down the kid from Virginia High on a kickoff and the kid he ran down (VHigh's running back is very fast.)

These 2 playing each other has knocked off about 5 years of my life. Been some of the best games I've seen since the 90s

The best have thrown it very little and they will continue to throw it very little. But, when they have thrown it, it's been a success. What I'm getting at is, Union is going to catch people cheating up in the box to stop their run all year long because they are so effective at it, but this year, I bet those rare throws that they make have a much higher completion percentage than years past. Union is so solid that cheating up in the box isn't going to matter for most schools cause they can still run it, but there will be some times against teams like Graham and Abingdon and maybe Richlands, where they have a few 3rd and longs and have to make a decision to run or pass. I think on the rare occasions they do choose pass, this year offers them a better chance at success than going back many years. Because....the QB is actually accurate. The WR's are not slow and take forever to run a route, they are athletic and can run by the defender.

    Week 1 updates

Yeah I'm sure LB gets it figured out at least some and is a good team by midseason. But if they aren't careful, they have two games against smaller schools that could beat them, you guys and Riverheads. I was sure LB would handle Riverheads before the season but now it looks like any other of my predictions, terribly wrong lol

    GW vs Radford

George Wythe is young and has plenty of talent. I understand George Wythe only returns 4 starters on O and 4 on Defense according to folks I spoke with. George Wythe is another team like Giles that is one year away from being very good.
