Graham by about 3 scores. Galax is a good Class A school, but they don’t have the horses this year to keep up with the speed.

I know I don’t go to a football game just to watch the band or cheerleaders but I also know that I would go to a lot less of them if they weren’t there. Atmosphere is what makes football games so fun.

I am a die hard sports fan,and I used to be ignorant. My eldest played football and baseball,and my youngest played the baritone in the marching band. Man oh man did I get an education. In football you can make a mistake and still win. You do not have to be perfect. In a band competition if your toe is 1/4 an inch off target you will lose the competition. Marching in the blazing sun in black poly unis hotter than Southern hell toting a big arse instrument (and if you've never packed a bass drum or timpani you don't appreciate the effort). I used to have the jock mentality. These days I'm much wiser. I have every bit as much respect for the band kids than the players (maybe more). They bust their humps to play for us. They deserve nothing but our utmost respect.

Win or lose big respect and gutcheck for Central. Down 21-7 to an unbeaten 3A team and it's 21-20.

I'm a Giles guy, but the reality is Coach Allen at Galax called off the dogs after they got up 28-0. If memory serves me correct, I believe his first year coaching at Tazewell in 2012, Giles played them in regularly season. Giles was really good that year, and after dominating the first half, Coach Williams pulled the starters. Tazewell got to score some points in the second half, ending up something like 57-35. Sure Allen remembered and appreciated that. Knowing these 2 teams are in the same district now, and going to matchup often,looks like both coaches like and respect each other. Just my take.

Maybe the coaching staff read some of the comments on here & decided they needed to make some adjustments, lol. Definitely looks like GW headed in the right direction now. I'll be cheering against them in a few weeks though when they play Graham, lol.

Congrats to Abingdon, and also to Graham for last week. I've been in covid lock down for a couple of weeks, and this covid is no BS believe me. I'm an old man to most of you and I had the vaccine J&J back in May and now I'm thankfull I did. Didn't have it too rough, just oxygen level problems and feeling like getting hit by a 300 pound linebacker, but other than that I didn't have it too bad, except for the elephant sitting on my chest at night, or so it seemed. I'll give God the praise for getting me through, and hope I never have to go that route again. Back to football---Hope the Blues will get it worked out, but the schedule is a killer. Just hope all the games get played, but heard that Bluefield is on remote learning now and no sports, so this weeks game may not happen. Does anyone have any info on this? GO BIG BLUE!!!

Wow, that was a heck of a game and comeback by Galax. I was really impressed with Galax's QB and their run defense up front. Solid team that deserved to win the game. Hopefully the Bobcats can regroup and be ready to get back in the W column. Congrats to Galax on the win. Classy program.

That’s right folks. We’re back. I finally talked Uncle Percy to UN RETIRE this week. The deal maker, its the 25th Anniversary of a certain football game. More on that later. Uncle Percy wants a little time to study some teams before to picks a bunch of losers. Salem and Abington, you already know that you all will always be losers to Uncle Percy (majority of high school football fans also). Warning!!! Uncle Percy is a little more radical now since they say a certain idiot won the 2020 election instead of Trump. So GMAN, I may need your help if he gets too wild with his pickin’s. You know how he hates political correctness and Mamby Pambys. So, those of you who know Uncle Percy, lets have some fun, those of you who don’t, you’ve been warned. See you soon. Lil’ Leonard.

I’m watching Galax/Radford tonight in NFHS. No offense to the Maroon Tide but Galax ain’t a Union. I’m not saying it’s a cakewalk for Graham. It won’t be but I guarantee they’ll be some adjustments and defense will show improvement over this week. We had some that didn’t want any part of Union & the D staff needs to toughen those boys up, lol. I’m not naming names or numbers.

This. We go to watch a football game, ultimately. But without the atmosphere and the pageantry that everything else brings, it’s just not the same.

Abindgon is very good. Richlands has 0 heart, 0 effort and 0 toughness. It is what it is at this point. You can’t change those things mid-week during practice.

How does everybody see this one going? Union exposed some defensive issues for Graham. It will be interesting to see how the defense responds after they spent a lot of time on the field against Union and gave up a lot of yards on the ground and we know that Galax always has a good rushing attack.

You have to remember that more than likely Roanoke times would get the stats from statistician keeping them at game. Would be more accurate after game film is watched.

I'm not so sure about that. I think the times may have been incorrect, as Ashworth had way more than 28 yards rushing. Even accounting for tackles for loss.

I believe that's exactly what it was lol We still have a ways to go, but I'm looking forward to seeing this bunch develop over the next couple of seasons. You guys take it easy on us, okay? lol We don't have the horses to run with y'all, but definitely looking forward to seeing you guys in person.

Yes they lost bad to Grayson County early in that season to. I just renewed the Union game because I was at it and remember a lot of games about to mail it in on that team until they just turned it on. Those teams were so evenly matched I believe Clintwood and GW would have split evenly if they played 10 game series'.

The sweetest thing about that 2011 Clintwood team and the 2012 GW team was the following week, they both went east with huge fan turnouts to semifinal games after a week of internet chatter about how we had zero chance and came away with wins. To sweeten the pot, 2011 Galax and 2012 Honaker also took care of business at home in the semis, and we had two years of nothing but west representatives in the 1A title game. Giles stole the show in 2013 with a 2A championship to boot. Absolutely my favorite stretch of time as a high school football fan.

Oh no, they didn't miss the bus, the only problem is, the one's at Giles also managed to make the bus trip.

The Spartans are growing up and getting more healthy with many of our starters back tonight shows how talented this bunch from Giles is. They got potential and when it's all said and done, Giles will be the second best team in the West in Class A ball by season's end, and the second game with Galax might be closer than some think IF we can get and stay healthy. The addition of some key returning starters tonight showed on defense and this will be as big as the offense. We aren't beating Galax this year, but in the next contest, they will not be able to easily go straight down the field on us with ease like they did the first contest. I think if we play em again, we keep it within 13-16 points.

This is correct. GW and Clintwood met in 2011 and 2012 in the quarterfinals as the west 2 and 3 seeds and split the series. The winner each of those years went on to win state titles.

Yep, the Bobcats let off the gas some, but credit Galax for just continuing to do their thing. They beat us up front on the line of scrimmage which is our weak spot. We are very young up front and have a bunch of new starters that are going to be good, but they need time. Also, they are undersized. This is not a big Radford team by any means. Congrats on Galax for continuing to keep that rushing game going with great blocking. The QB for Galax is very good. Hopefully the Bobcats can bounce back next week. The better team won the game tonight.

Unions Band kicks butt,some bands just beat their drums, cause noise, but Union plays loud Music, I don’t like the long haired stuff . If you ever seen Surrys’ band they put on a show even in 3 inch deep mud like they did at State finals against Appalachia in Big Stone Gap,many years ago

Nothing against Narrows at all but I'm glad to see Giles playing good.

I like our chances the next 4 years. I think we win tonight 31-21, and easily win the next three in a row. The healthier we get, the more the "Galax Gap" will close. The Galax Gap is Galax and everybody else in the Single A West. Once we get healthy and get our starters back, I think we are within 14-17 points of Galax at the end of the regular season, and a second contest if we meet still results in a Galax win but not as bad as the first one a couple weeks ago
