The legality of the train horn isn't measured in decibels. Airhorns and cowbells while quieter are just as illegal. I love the train horn, but I'm not saavy with it blaring during live action. blare it when we score, when we enter the field...etc2 points -

If we're going to open up old wounds......... I used to play competitively quite a bit before having kids but haven't in several years now. I played a VSGA match play "Ryder Cup" style event sometime around 2004. Our third match of the weekend was with two older gentlemen. On #12 at Botetourt Country Club in a four ball format, me and one of the older guys were literally side by side in the fairway (about a foot apart) with around 90 yards into a downhill green. I stopped to relieve myself in the woods to the left of the tee box and when I got to my ball, he had already hit my ball into the greenside bunker. Knowing the rule is loss of hole for playing the wrong ball, I suggested we just move on to #13. The old geezer starts yelling and screaming about it and asks for a ruling. The rules official was completely scared out of his shoes at this guys antics. He drives to the greenside bunker, grabs my ball, drops it beside me and tells me to replace it as near as possible to where it was and proceed. We would let the Tournament Director make the final decision after the match. My partner and I were incensed but ended up giving in and resuming play. We finish #18 and walk up to the Tournament Director, who is already in a conversation with this old geezer. The TD spins around and says, go to the 1st tee for a sudden death playoff. Any rules violation is null and void once the next hole is started. While this is technically true, it still sucks and completely cheated us out of the win. I snap-hooked my drive into the pond left of the entrance road left of the 1st fairway, putting my partner in an impossible position, and we lost the match. It was 120 yards left of the fairway. I was incredibly pissed off. About a year later, I was paired with the exact same guy in the first round of another VSGA match play event. He didn't remember me so I played dumb a bit. He introduced me to his playing partner for that day. Which happened to be his son. I remembered his son as well, who immediately remembered me and started back-peddling. His son was the rules official that had completely screwed me the year before!!! Now, he was scared out of his shoes for a completely different reason. I didn't need a playing partner that day. We won 8 & 6. I'd love to get @GMantake on the rules situation.2 points -

As dismal as John Battle is, the Lee/Gate City game coming up Friday night will likely decide the M7’s 4th playoff spot. Now, I think Gate City wins by a few scores, but who could have imagined Lee being in this position 3 weeks ago, riding a 23-game losing streak? What a rebound season for Lee, weaker competition be darned. If Lee can somehow, some way beat Gate City, and Lee gets to 5-5, how could Carroll not be the M7’s COY? He probably should be at 4-6, in all honesty.2 points -

Look at it from this perspective: Yes one win came in very unfortunate circumstances at Rye Cove, but last weeks win against burton was so back and forth and they DID NOT back down! This is a team that is gaining confidence, experience, and valuable football wisdom. The offensive talent is there. It will take time to build a winner, but it seems if they can continue to improve their technique on the defensive side of the ball, they will win a few more games this year.2 points

If you flag Union you'd best flag the opponent if they are ringing bells and airhorns. It must be followed to the letter of the law (no matter which is louder).1 point -

Never was school grounds, inside the fence or outside thefence is All Town of Big Stone Gap. We (the town) pay 100% of the cost of maintenance as well as the Police officers( county pays its deputys’) so that’s why there may be a discussion at the town council meeting( may be) . Just to be clear there has been a noise ordinance on the books for some time. It should be noted that many of the complaints came from Union fans , so we have a week or so to work this out. I see a different location of the horn and a written set of guidelines to be put in place.1 point -
Yep, loss of hole. Know the Rules of Golf before you become a Tournament Director.1 point

Since my short game is the bane of my golf existence, I always prefer playing from the farther tees. I'm really strong anywhere from 150 yards or further. And completely useless everywhere from 150 into the green. As per high scores... Have I ever told everyone about carding a 117 in a regulation match at Fincastle back in 1986? I missed a six-foot putt for 116.1 point -

A friend of my daughter shot a 57 in a NCHSAA tournament yesterday, which is obviously a record. She goes to Reagan High in Pfafftown (near Winston Salem). Her teammates shot 64 and 69. They play four players for three scores in girls golf in North Carolina. The team score was 190, breaking the old state team scoring record by 22 shots. The girl that shot 64 has signed to play at VT. The girl that shot 69 has signed to play at High Point. Needless to say, my daughters friend will be signing somewhere soon. I don't like the way they do things in NCHSAA for girls golf. Listen, a 57 is outstanding. I don't care what the course statistics are. But it does have to come with something of an asterisk when playing from 4,800 yards. It also sets these girls behind when they go to college and suddenly have to play from 6,400 yards.1 point -

Obviously, Class 3 athletes are only good enough to compete from the ladies’ tees, while the big manly men of Class 4 are capable of playing from the standard tees. Kidding! That does seem bizarre. Also, I’ve been to Ye Olde Mill. I don’t get what the fuss is about. I can post a way higher score than any I’ve seen from that tourney.1 point -

For Power Points purposes, there's no difference between 0-9 and 0-10. A win would give either 16 or 18 points, depending on whether a 1A or 2A team plays them.1 point -

That's about what I have. There's been no official make-up game for PH/Grundy, that I've seen, so that could possibly take away 1 pt from Lee. I think Burton is the most likely toss-up of the toss-ups. If they go beat TW, and all other teams finish as you have listed, that could give Lee a 166 to 165 PPT lead over GC. I still think GC should be favored by at least 2 TDs, but at this point, Lee could very easily take the W Saturday night. And yes, the head to head winner would be the tie breaker.1 point -
I'll never forget them showing up at GC one night 5 minutes before the game started. They got off the bus and walked straight to the sideline, proceeded to kick our hind ends, and walked back to the bus. I had nothing but respect for that bunch.1 point

I totally forgot, you're right. I forgot Kisner took over for a few years before Don Williams came back. Carroll is their sixth coach since 2008 by my count. Six!1 point -
Thanks for the updates. Didn't watch the game, but I wouldn't put too much into this one way or the other. Abingdon just played 5 nights ago. They got what they needed which was the w. Now they get 10 days off before Ridgeview and Union back to back.1 point

True, but you have to compare Lee High to not just the 3 teams with 0-13 records. You have to compare Lee High to........Lee High. In the last 3 seasons, they have won only 2 football games since the year of 2017 prior to starting this current season.1 point -
I left the game, but Abingdon scored again as I was walking out the gate. Great game Gate City!1 point

RB for Abingdon broke it the first play and had wide open field and he would have scored most of the time on most teams, but there is a certain kid for Gate City that resembles a lightening bolt and ran him down as if the running back was standing still. Falcons about to go in.1 point -

I agree with those uses of the train horn. It adds to the atmosphere of the park/ It wouldn’t have ever been an issue except for blowing it incessantly when the opponents are in huddle and especially during the snap count (this being the absolutely most egregious use of said train horn). Boys will be boys I guess.1 point -
