  1. Sounds like the Beavers kid would fit right in at the school in Bluefield, VA. Just sayin.........

  2. That is where is disagree in the voting honestly. You have be a great player with great talent round you that make you look a lot better. IMO if you take Bradshaw off of Graham they are still in the region championship game at the very least. Beavers as great as he is still had enough talent around him that Ridgeview is still possibly a 2nd round playoff team, at the very least they still finish 3rd in the M7. If you take Harris off of Tazewell they win 2 games

    2A VHSL ALL-STATE TEAM

I will say this, from my time on this board it’s apparent that most SWD fans really don’t know much about any M7 team other than Union. I’m an old SWD guy (when they had 11 teams in the district)and follow the M7 more now due to relatives that play on some of the M7 teams. I watch a lot of football from both sides and there is a lot of stereotypes or hot takes that are a bit off. That’s why I loved the first round playoff format where the two districts played each other. There is a lot of homerism on here and that’s to be expected. It’s good to stand for your team but sometimes the truth is the truth and it will usually play out. I was blasted for saying Central’s D was the best in the M7 and they had the best LB core….both were true and on display when they played Union. I was blasted for saying the RV QB is the best or seconD best QB in the region right now. Was told he’s 3rd best in M7 alone. That’s proving itself out. Just be open minded and freely debate….it’s what keep the board interesting..or else we go back to Graham and Union ping pong topics. Lol.

For the record I have said all year that Beavers was awesome. You can fact check me on that, so I don’t want this to seem like I’m downing him. I think Bradshaw, Beavers, & Harris are all three different types of receivers that played in different systems so it’s hard to compare them. I don’t understand how you can lead the state in receptions and yards and not be first team and not be first team all state. I also don’t understand how you can have 58 catches for 1100 yards, 16 tds and not be first team all state. I think we’re bickering over who’s better between the 3 when in my opinion those 3 should’ve all made first team. No offense to the kids from Glenvar or Central but when comparing those 5 the 3 SWVA kids should’ve been on the first team but we should all know better than to think the VHSL would allow that to happen.

  5. I agree. It seems they go off stats and how deep you go in the playoffs. Lomax 2nd Team RB? Maybe I have him on a pedestal he shouldn't be on but the kid had crazy numbers only playing 2 quarters for most of the season. He was a beast. I thought for sure Harris would be 1st team. I have come to the conclusion when the season is over don't look at the awards because you are only going to get frustrated.

Well, here you are. Shit....I thought people would be all about breaking down some film and actually seeing the athletes they speak on. I'm assuming BluWolf probably hadn't seen Harris' film and what a classic true WR he is and I'm assuming that's the most you've seen Beavers. We need to throw Bradshaw's film on here as well so everyone can see his skills. Webb, too. BTW, I love how Tazewell uses Harris....they are more creative than RV. Additionally, I love the planned back shoulder throws the Creasy kid does......I thought at first they were short,.....but I'm pretty sure that's planned....works great with Harris' length. I think we should break down the RV QB vs Tazewell QB film as well. It's all right here.

I don’t think you watched enough RV football this year. RV is Tazewell…only with a better defense. I’m not disagreeing with what you are saying about Tazewell and Harris. I’m disagreeing with some of your RV observations. RV didn’t have a running game once teams figured out it was just a basic zone read. The difference is that Tazewell quickly understood what they were and weren’t and RV never really figured it out. Both had Fr QBs and average, at best, lines and a stable of kids who can catch the ball. If you want to compare Harris to Beavers—-review their common opponents (Richlands, Graham, Central, Bluefield) to see how they played and impacted those games and break down their stats. If you want an eye test…shit Hudl is out there and will show you everything. I see two similar WRs but if you see one clearly better than the other, to each his own. I have both of them ahead of Dougherty, but that may be some SWVA homerism. And if you want to really blow up this board…I think they are better pure WRs than Bradshaw who is more APB and slot.

  8. Exactly this! I rated Beavers as a Top 5 player at his position in the whole of 2A, and that homer takes that as some sort of slight or insult. Beavers is legitimately good and will be playing on Saturdays somewhere. Do I think he’s on Bradshaw’s or Harris’s level yet? No. But there are only a handful of players in the whole state, across all 6 classifications, who are. People are crazy! Tazewell did indeed have no threat of a running game. Tends to happen when you replace 4 stud linemen, 1 of whom was all-state. The 1 that did return had an injury pretty early on limited him substantially. 5 underclassmen. That’ll be better next year.

  9. The 4 wide is absolutely RV’s base set. I’m not even sure I saw two RBs once all season and they don’t have a TE….so…..where they go??? Beavers didn’t even lead RV in receptions…think that was Counts kid. Also…the miracle needed against Richlands WAS Beavers.. lol. He had two great TD catches in last 1:30 of the game to win it. It’s not his fault his coaches absolutely refused to give up running for 0 and 1 yard against Richlands until the game was literally on the line. The irony here is that Beavers’ numbers would be more other wordly if he played for Harris’s Dad. Lol. The RV coaches simply refuse to feed the ball to Beavers. And I’ll definitely credit the Tazewell coaches for realizing they have an All State WR and scheming ways to get him the ball. I thought Graham didn’t do a great job off isolating Bradshaw enough….and don’t get me started in RV’s use/misuse of their WR.

  10. Go watch their Hudl season highlights and make your own decision. I think Harris was dinged on not being 1st Team for two reasons: 1) Team wasn’t that good and he didn’t appear to elevate his team or outright get win his team a big win. Beavers beat Richlands twice…scoring two TDs in last 1:20 to win the play off game. Bradshaw took over against RV in the playoffs and carried his team to a crucial win. I’m not sure Cassius had that. 2) TD to catch ratio isn’t good. He’s scoring once every 10 catches. (Beavers and Bradshaw were once every 3 catches). I think this is an important stat….maybe others don’t. This,IMHO, is as vital as a RB’s YPC. 3) Project Bradshaw and Beavers TD and yards per catch with Harris’ reception total and you get a whole different beast. Just simple math..Beavers would have 31TDs and 2,156 yards. Bradshaw is a bit harder because I can’t find his consensus season totals. But you get the point. Ive watched film on Bradshaw, Beavers, Harris and the Dougherty kid so far. They are all close….but only Bradshaw and Beavers got special defensive attention week in and week out. I don’t think I saw Dougherty hardly ever face a double.

Only thing painful to watch is Tazewell football. Where every next year is their year. Tazewell football not relevant since 87.

  12. Richlands almost ended Ridgeview’s season 1 round too early (as is tradition) and Graham blew Ridgeview off the field in the final 3 quarters. It’s also much harder to bracket a WR when the base offensive set is 4 WR. You bracket Harris in a 4 WR set, Creasy’s either running for 20+ yards or you’re leaving Mullins, Mills (who got all-state votes at TE), or McDonald wide open. You clearly don’t have a grasp on what you’re saying.

I agree that SWD was loaded with WR talent, along with BEAVERS! Stats do play into it, but also how far your team goes does as well, which shows in the voting!

  14. He’s not as good as Bradshaw or Harris, LOL. But he is probably a Top 5 WR in 2A, which is a Hell of a compliment considering the competition.

Beavers kid is better than both of them as a WR. Only kid I saw bracketed all year long.

  19. Good point, but this is THE Jared Mullins we are talking about here. He was a large portion of Tazewell's defense. I'll shut up now. Graham guy fussing about a Tazewell kid not making 1st team probably doesn't add up either. 😂

  20. There's a couple they got wrong IMO. I'd swap Watkins & Bradshaw for DB. Surprised about Mullins too.

  21. That's what I figured. They definitely got that one wrong.

  22. Am I wrong questioning Jared Mullins 2nd Team DB? I thought he was a defensive machine for Tazewell unless he dropped off or something.
