Digital tickets suck.

Bingo. This prevents schools from under counting their attendance and the VHSL missing their full cut.

Everyone should be aware that may not know that this is from the VHSL not a decision by Graham High School to only sell tickets online. This is the same for all VHSL state playoff games, online tickets only. We must never forget, with the VHSL it comes down to the almighty $$$!

The only bad thing about Go-Fan is when the cell signal gets jammed. If there’s a good crowd at Mitchell there may be trouble getting in. I went to Hoover-Thompson game last year in Alabama, which was a Go-Fan only event, and there were 15k+ to show up. Everyone’s cell signal was jammed and it was a huge mess trying to get in the game. Folks had to keep getting out of line because they couldn’t get their tickets to load. Go-Fan should adopt a way to have their tickets offline. Adding them to your apple wallet would make a lot more sense.

Lol, actually I don't believe I'll be in Bluefield myself now. Going to Carowinds Saturday night, and Wytheville is just a trickle closer to Charlotte than Bluefield. So most likely, it's G-Dub and Grundy for me Saturday.

That was so long ago I don’t know if any one could speak on it. I think something to consider though is that he enrolled at UVA at 16. He started by the end of his sophomore year at age 17. I was responding more to comment that Compton had the best resume.

Will never happen as long as the county seat is in Tazewell. Under no circumstances will they ever divide the county in two. They've been saying consolidation was 10,20, or 30 years away for 30 years. You combine them they are 3A. And we already see what a headache that is for Abingdon. 3 schools is a good number for this county.

Gauntlet is an accurate description. I remember all those teams being in the "1970s NRD" except for Floyd Co.

Absolute stud. The guys on his team, well....both of them...Viney and Holloway were near misses for the NFL. Stephan Holloway was very good at Tech, and Big Bad Viney was an All American at Hampton U.

Yep. And prior to their consolidation in the mid 1970s you also had Dublin and old Pulaski High School in the mix. The strength of its components (NRD and SWD) made Region IV football very entertaining in the first 10 years of the new VHSL class system. Also very competitive. Region IV teams won half of the state championships in Group AA from 1970-1979 and finished as runner-up once. (And of course Giles won in 1980, but I was just sticking with a decade reference overall.)

I grew up around the old New River District (AA) and the Mountain Empire District (A). The NRD when I was a kid was... Blacksburg Carroll County Christiansburg Floyd County Galax George Wythe Giles Narrows Radford The MED when I was a kid was... Auburn Fries Fort Chiswell Independence Shawsville Bland, Rocky Gap and Mount Rogers played most sports other than football. The old NRD was a gauntlet. Floyd left the NRD for the MED beginning with the 1980/1981 school year. Galax followed suit for the 1984/1985 school year. Narrows came to the MED in 1988/1989 school year. Which was the same year Independence, Fries and Mount Rogers consolidated into Grayson County.
