Almost Halloween, you 2 dress up as a player and official and hang out and eat some candy. It was as expected in a hard- fought game with some missed calls and some bad calls. The potential for great rematches throughout the region will make it interesting to say the least. Good luck to both the rest of the way.

Long way to go before worrying about Glenvar. Playoffs anything can and will happen. But I will be pulling for Union if- when they get that far

Yeah that’s exactly what the Union fans are saying 😕 The only poster who has talked about Union potentially going deep in the playoffs is a Radford guy, not quite a Bear homer, but you can keep pretending teams like DB, Science Hill and Betsy are as good as they have been the last 20 years or so. Nope they can’t possibly be down, not at all. GC playing right within 6A DB was just an anomaly, DB didn’t take them seriously snd would win 69-0 if they played again.

Maybe one day Ridgeview will schedule a tougher out of confrence schedule than Council, Castlewood, and Grundy lol. If we’re real lucky they might show a little class too!

No way shape or form is ridgeviews qb comparable to O’Quinn. When there was pressure he made the wrong decision every time. Maybe had 5 or 6 completions and 2 picks. Big kid and would be a pretty good TE, not a QB

So, here is my biggest frustration if I were Union’s fans. You have an offense screaming for a handful…..hell…three or four…play action fakes. Geezus… hard play action would be devastatingly effective. Make it look exactly like one of your bread and butter runs. I promise…I promise, promise, no LB/DB will resist biting on it.

I’m going to caution against a couple of things. Reece is mobile…and the best way to wear out a pass rush is to move the pocket and have them chase him. There are schemes to punish an aggressive pass rush. If I’m Union, I might push the pocket up the middle and have the DEs play a slow contain rush. The other thing is Union will not have the luxury of playing their CBs 10 yards off. I’m never sold on a DB being elite until I see him flip hips and cover. Baker runs legit routes and hopefully Lebanon staff understands the value of motion. RV couldn’t do anything about that soft coverage last night…I think Lebanon will be better suited for that. And lastly…I’m running Jesse at #2. Full stop…hard gameplan. Great player…but finesse. Make him feel the game.

Union will get their pass defense checkup next week for sure. RV had theirs against Honaker last month. Very good experience as it stresses your defense in a way they don’t usually face. Like I said earlier….it is so much easier to play pass defense on 3rd and 7 then on first down or 3rd and 1 against a team that can and will throw whenever they want to. Lebanon will stress test your LBs and safeties more so than your corners. This is such a great opponent in that it is a dress rehearsal for Glenvar should you see them down the road.

I'm a big fan of Reece. Very much looking forward to seeing him next week. Also, can't wait to see how the Graham, Lebanon, Va High mash up goes as they battle each other.

I'm not sure exactly how it came to be or why they chose BSG to host, besides the talking points give in interviews, but the organizers seem to be very pleased with the results. It grew last year and is expected to grow again this year. They extended to Sunday with a gospel lineup and I was told it had sold out already. Very good event for BSG and Southwest Virginia as a whole since people are literally coming from every direction. That means they're stopping for gas, food or lodging on the way.

I think Lebanon is going to play some people tough as well.

The fair catch call? Legit complaint. Watching the feed it did look like a fair catch. The fumble and the guy being down? I didn’t see it. Do I think any of this changes the outcome if it’s called differently? Probably not. Too many variables. If it had been the last minute of the game and the outcome still not decided then that could have changed the outcome. I have seen North Greene hurt by bad calls. I have seen North Greene benefit from bad calls. Life goes on. Don’t gloat.

You need to cool it. Your chest beating doesn’t help your case. It’s probably embarrassing the Union faithful. You can disagree about a few calls all day, but acting like a buffoon is not helping at all.

And for the record, I’m for every young man being held back. They need that extra year of emotional ( and physical) development. Sports is an added benefit. Our young men are entering a society and workforce that has been feminized and positioned against “toxic masculinity”…whatever the hell that is supposed to be. It’s harder out there for them. We have large portions of our society that detests the blue collar workers…the miners, the welders, construction, trades, trucking…so it ain’t the worst thing to use an extra year to raise them and instill the values they will need to go forth and prosper. I held my boys back just for that reason and I’m glad I did. We had enrolled them early and I really wanted to “fix” that later on…so I didn’t get an extra year per se…just got the year back that I foolishly gave away to the education system.

The three missed calls weren’t penalties and wouldn’t show up in the stats after the game, homie. I shouldn’t have to explain that to you….but here I am. And, for the record, I didn’t take an ass whipping and you certainly didn’t give one. Add value to the conversation or go sit down.

I thought the game was played pretty clean until late in the 4th when the outcome was pretty much decided. Sometimes we forget that these are kids playing a game.

I plan on doing scenarios this week. I did an estimate last week and a 9-1 Union would be in a statistical tie with a 10-0 Glenvar. And there could be some discrepancies based on whether or not private schools are counted. This "regions doing there own points" is going to bite someone eventually.

His punts were so high the ball disappeared above the lights. Was hoping he got to try a long field but never happened.

There’s always some revisionist post commentary after a win but here is about as fair a take as I can do about this game. 1) I tried to tell you before the game that RV’s athletes and speed were top notch. They have the skill positions. They just don’t have the LOS. 2) I also said that they were undersized at a couple of positions and could use another DL. You saw that tonight. Without going into details..two positions really hurt them tonight on defense. 3) They have a lot of young starters..particularly on defense. And, whether any Bears fans wanna admit…RV was physical…especially for the size disadvantage. Chandler got banged up a couple times. I can tell you #1, 13 and #54 were hitting dudes. 4) RV has to move on from their current implementation on offense. They just aren’t getting the results from a 4 wide offense. It totally takes away any possibility of play action fake….which is damn effective. If they insist on going four wide…they have to implement true RPOs..like Honaker. 5) Deel is good tough back. Don’t know what his numbers were but he was getting good yardage. If RV had him a couple years ago…they probably get by Graham. 6) Difference was LOS size. Hard to give up 40-50lbs on average. I’m not sure why RV can’t get more size out. 7)If you are going to beat Union you have to be aggressive with play calling and chances and win the turnover battle. 8- The officiating was really poor guys…sorry but it was and it played a factor….not enough to determine the game but this wasn’t a three score game. 9) RV needs more depth. They rely on too many two way starters. Union has good depth. 10) I’m withholding judgement about their pass defense. I have my theories and we will see what Lebanon does next week. Let’s just say that Union has the benefit of playing situational pass defense. It’s easier to play D on 3rd and 9 than it is against a team that will and can throw it well on a 3rd and 1. Baker may present a challenge. 11) I’ve still got Union getting out of the region unless Snake Palmer can rig up a sweet game plan.

RV had 2 problems tonight. When it was 14 -7. I would've went for it on 4th and 6 or run a fake punt. Also at the end of the first half they should've tried to score with 3 time outs. Most knew Union was better and this was the night to throw the kitchen sink at them. Especially with the start that could not have been scripted any better. He is most likely referring to the Chandler fumble at the end of the 2nd qtr when the ref claimed he was down and was not. He was standing straight up. That wouldve been a scoop and score making it 28-21 RV at halftime most likely. The better team won. I have no issues saying that. I see issues if Union doesn't cut down on Chandler's carries a bit. If he gets hurt, the region is up for grabs.

I need to recalculate after this week, but a 10-0 Union should outpoint a 10-0 Glenvar by 10 points or so.

Don't get me wrong. I agree. My whole crew talks about how ridiculous it is to get to the game 2 hours early for a good parking spot or seat. The community throws money at this program like it's water. Every business wants their name mentioned or picture taken as being a sponsor. Freedom Chevrolet donates $100 for every TD scored each week. $900 for Boone, $600 for GC, $600 more this week. It adds up. The school isn't going to turn down that money.
