  1. Given all your posts, I have to ask. Are you conducting an elaborate, government experiment on "fat, old men" trying to live out their dreams on a football forum? šŸ˜‚

  2. Just my humble opinion, but I think Union did more to lose this game than Glenvar did to win it.

Keep Edwards at the helm , of course, Wise County Public Schools could care less about a Tazewell County person’s opinion but I think Coach Edwards proved he’s more than capable of leading the team.

  4. Rather have Chris Akers and 5 disgruntled GC fans at the helm with them in a weekly, cage match, battle Royale on the 50 yard line before and after the game.

  6. This right here ā¬†ļø Kids & coaches from Union battled a storm that no high school team should have to endure and they weathered it. Definitely, hold heads high, Bears!

  7. That’s what I assumed they would call, but it’s hard to argue against giving the guy who got you there the ball with three yards to go. I wish they had a little more deception, out of the gun you have to defend Bostic as well, but I get it.

  8. Saw three games today where teams went for two to win. Watauga made it; Union and Nitro didn’t. Either way, loved the call — no OT, trust your kids, live with it.

  9. Travel ball sucks and I think it hampers kids more than it helps in football. Winning is more important than learning to play the correct way abd that makes it even harder for the HS coaches to correct. I hope BSG never goes to that model.

  11. The Union coaches, Jay and Kory, deserve so much credit for stepping in and being able to keep them focused. Our fans in the stands can be idiots at times but anyone being too hard on those guys needs perspective. They didn’t sign up for this, they were thrust into it and lost a state semi by a point.

  12. With all the noise, the Union kids showed incredible poise and effort these last three weeks. Hats off to every player, coach abd parent. In an impossible situation you really showed character.

  15. In games like that, you never know when the pivotal moments that will decide the game will arise. Have to seize on every opportunity given. Yesterday, the majority of those went the other way.

If Jay wants it it should be his. He and Kory deserve to get to do whatever they’d like after doing what they did this season.

  17. 🤣Definitely, not the government. However, I would happily accept funding to confirm my thoughts on how that population that I may or may not be part of thinks.

  18. Strasburg had no luck stopping Graham’s passing game with Roberts at QB (probably his best game of his high school career) ,unless their pass defense has greatly improved, I don’t see them stopping Dawyot.

  19. Graham & Strasburg had cowbells and a couple of guys had those drill horns last year. Nobody said anything.

  21. The problem with taking your P-Nut football teams out of the in house setting is that when you play a team from another town the focus goes from developing players to winning. At that level, winning is nice but that’s not how you mold players to fit your program. In house you can set rules like: no blitzing, all LBs 5 yards off the ball at the snap, all teams use the same defenses and condensed playbook, no player over a certain weight can run with the ball unless it’s passed to him, etc. These types of rules don’t exactly enhance competition, but they do give players time to learn to do the things on the field they need to learn to do. When you are playing teams from other communities, they aren’t going to want to adhere to that for several reasons, but mainly because their varsity program probably doesn’t run your playbook. For years there was a community Little League football league where the kids participating didn’t learn much at all that would help them past that particular season. This was the case mainly because the folks coaching them wanted to win more than to teach fundamentals. At that age, fundamentals are more important than winning.

  22. I could have seen an option play involving Bostic and Chandler, but in the end Union went good on good playing that their strength was better than Glenvars. Most times it probably gets 3 yards, but that time Glenvars good got the better of Unions good. Hard to argue with getting the ball in your workhorses hands and not feeling good about it IMO.

  39. Princeton had gotten the wrong end of the call on 2 bad calls...a "completion" for a 1st down that clearly hit the ground and a strip fumble that was ruled forward progress had stopped.

  40. I didn't realize that..Hard to believe they agreed to reduce it the first time. People don't usually agree to tougher paths to state titles.

  42. When little league cares more about winning a trophy than teaching fundamentals and love of football, you don’t get high numbers in high school. The little league season drags on way too long also. It needs a total revamp. I’ve seen too many kids not stick with it and it has more to do with how teams are run than kids themselves.

  44. I know Ridgeview plays in SWVA league that travels to many communities. Union is closer than most. That said, Union has no reason to be so generous, but hypothetically, if Union invites RV into the league would it ruin the feeder program? Just thinking because I believe generosity of including teams from outside communities had an unintended impact on Richlands feeder system leading to an arms race to compete. This may not be the case, but my thoughts led me there when you mentioned the feeder program at Union.
