Well, here on Possum Tail Hollow, we got wind of an interesting rumor from an out of state source on Friday. However, We are going to follow Cousin Rufus Paul Harvey Teague’s, former reporter for the Beefhide Gazette, Beefhide, KY, rule about rumors until we can find out some more information. When JJK's girls had that magical 30-0 season years ago, our own fans were yapping saying "With all that talent Robin has, a chimpanzee could win a state title with these girls". He more than made that laughable and continues to with what 8 rings now? Coaching is everything.

I always laughed when I heard people say “But Powell Valley had talent. That’s why Powell Valley won all those championships!” Of course. Talent is a part of the equation. Talent isn’t everything. Phil Robbins was a top-notch coach. One has to be able to manage a team and develop strategies that will help them succeed. Just to make an analogy, Bama had talent even when Shula was the coach. But Shula had them at “just pretty good” at best. Then Saban comes along. Bama was a .500 team in Saban’s, but after 2007 they never looked back.

Hard to predict a decade out if the population trend continues in Buchanan County. Probably easier to guess how they will do in 1D 6 or 7 years from now instead of 2D. I think as long as they have average Class 2 numbers, they will surpass every team in 2D with the exception of Union and Graham, and probably on the same level as a Ridgeview if their coach stays and their numbers hold. This year, 7-3 or 6-4, 2027-8-2, 2028-totally depends at that point with what happens with Buchanan's population.
