You guys need to clean up your acts!!! Stop calling out people NOW!!! Stop with the racial accusations NOW!!! Act like adults or I’m shutting this whole thing down!! Don’t ask why I deleted a certain post on the board, YOU ALL KNOW WHY!!! This board is up for renewal right now and I’m not sure I want it to continue the way many of you are acting. If I do keep it going, there will be lots of changes. I won’t be putting up with the crap that has been going on here lately. IF YOU HAVE ANY ISSUES WITH WHAT I JUST POSTED, PACK YOU BAG BECAUSE YOU’LL BE GONE…PERIOD!!! I DON’T CARE IF YOU HAVE BEEN HERE FOREVER, GET OUT OF LINE ONE MORE TIME AND IT’S OVER. G-Man

  6. I’ve been around for 20+ years. I started swva sports.com back when I started swvaol.com which was a dial up internet device. Roughly in 2001 or so. At that time gman had the old swvafootball message board going. My idea was to bring it all under one roof at swvasports so we could have one place to visit and talk about everything year round and not 15 different pages that were dedicated to each sport. Gman liked the idea and this place was born. At some point years later I got busy with kids, life, family etc etc. and kinda faded in to the background. Gman has kept it rolling along but he’s ready for a break. Instead of closing doors here I told him I’d just come out of semi retirement and keep it rolling. So here we are. Getting ready to move it to a new server, clean up a few things, and on down the road we go. Together. gman will still be around I’m sure. not much should really change. I’ll try to do a few things to make it better. anyway … it’s all good. Enjoy.

    Marion 🤔

I agree with you both. However, when I think about it, the games aren't for the fans or the money they generate. They're really for the players. If it weren't for the kids that wanted to play, there wouldn't be a team. No team, no game. No game, no fans. No fans, no money. Does a 1-9 team "deserve" to be in the playoffs? No. Does that senior that loves the game, and maybe is in a bad situation due to inept coaching or poor turnout deserve one more chance to put on that uniform and play the game we all love? Absolutely!! If I was a HS senior, I would be ecstatic to play just one more time. Even if I knew I would get beat to death. Lol Just a thought.

We would have taken care of this situation in the locker room or on the practice field..BEFORE it occurred on the field/court/diamond. The Helicopter Moms..Lawnmower Dads..Grandstand Usta' Bees have weakened the character and ownership responsibility of our student-atheletes. I will not be popular on this Forum so bring it.

    Sarge Reed passes

To me a legend in the area. Sarge was a long time assistant for Harry Fry at Gate City. In the late 70s he took over as the lead Dawg at Appalachia stepping down in 79 after a 7-3 campaign handing the keys to Tom Turner to take over. Sarge then took over the Rye Cove program in 83 and got the broke on the brink of a state title in 88. RC had defeated Jonesville at Jonesville near the end of the regular season before losing to the Dogs in a mud bowl in the region finals during the improbable run for the crew from Jonesville. Sarge stepped out of coaching after 1990 but returned to the Cove in 97. He was to be he HC but took the assistant title instead so a former player, Joe Carter could be the HC. Sarge still ran almost everything for the program for the next three years which were some of the programs winningest teams. He took over the Twin Springs program in 2003 as they were coming out of a really rough stretch. I asked him why he was heading up there. Coach told me he liked a challenge and had coached at GC and RC, he might as well mark off the last county school before he retired for good. Coach stepped down after only two seasons. He led TS to two of their programs three region final games during those two years. Coach Reed wasnt flashy. He wore the same clothes to practice everyday and its hard to tell how many miles had been put on his 80s Thunderbird. He expected you to be physical as he said he only felt like he had lost two ballgames when his teams were the most physical one on the field. The playbook wasn't super deep on either side of the ball but like the nickname "Sarge" practice was drilled like military over and over to run things to perfection. He commanded respect but showed his "bigguns" a lot of love over the years. RIP to a SWVA coaching legend in my book.

    Twin Valley taps out

A community devastated by catastrophic flooding attempts to give their kids normalcy but by all means let’s think of the poor other schools losing a game/gate. GTFOH with that…for real. Do I hate we are losing a game? Sure, but it’s BS to criticize those kids/coaches/admin.

  13. Well, if you're going to hang out here you need to understand a few things: Union folk are never happy. Giles is experiencing a civil war. Tazewell somehow has become overrated. Graham is Graham Ridgeview will only go as far as their Dline will take them. We can't figure out Gate City Lee is on the upswing. Eastside is on the downswing. We're not sure about Burton. The whole damn board dislikes Central. We have our own internal drama, so you may not go directly to the front of the line. Enjoy.

  14. I can’t go on record as much in this realm, but I will say that if the School Board closes TCCTC, it will be the worst mistake that body has ever made. We have a population here that is PERFECT for vocational training, and taking that away would be utterly devastating, to put it very kindly. We don’t have the demographics to be a white-collar job mill. We have the demographics for practical training, and it saddens me to see just how much it’s already been placed on the back-burner.

  15. Big shout out of appreciation. You've given this old high school football junkie another great season. To the hand full of you I actually know, and the hundreds of you I've got to watch this year, Thank you. Although this probably wasn't the championship season you had hoped for, these will still be remembered as some of the best times of your life. Your dedication and hard work is truly admired. Play with Pride tonight, and give it all you got, 1 more time.

  17. Hello everybody. It’s been quite a while since I’ve been on the boards. Nearly 5 months now. While I won’t go into exact details — I felt it necessary to get away and take a break from most forms of social media. I left the board and also left Facebook for over 2 months. I used that time to look inward, instead of always looking outward and trying to find the negative around me. Through it all, I feel like I’ve started to turn a corner in my mental health. My family has went through the gauntlet this fall and winter. Multiple deaths — many due to Covid — have taken away people I loved dearly. Rifts with family and friends. Personal health and financial hardships. We’ve been through it all and come out (so far) stronger. Over the last several years, I’ve become unnecessarily combative to those around me — and that includes many of you here. For that, I am sorry. I’ve seen the pattern of who I was as a human, and continue to strive to correct that flaw on a daily basis. I don’t always win the battle — but I am determined to win this war. I hope that you can forgive me for things I may have said or done in the past that were out of line and unnecessary. If not — I understand that as well and truly respect where you’re coming from. I did years of damage to relationships and friendships that aren’t easily repaired. In any case, I am excited to get back and talk local sports with all of you. We are so lucky to be alive and healthy and able to talk about our amazing athletes from Radford to Ewing (hey Brady). Also, a huge thank you to GMan for checking in on me in what was a low point. I really do appreciate it.

  18. You know what the Hell you were doing. Your first post was absurd, and it’s preposterous that you feel the need to defend it. Regardless the reason, a young man has passed away, and it’s basic human decency to avoid taking shots at someone. Were this my board, I’d permaban you for this.

  23. Folks, I have the pleasure of being around a few athletics programs due to my profession and I see an alarming trend going on locally in the aspect of discipline. Programs that used to have depth and stability no longer have that and are grasping at straws in regard to talent. If you hold some of these young men accountable, they will leave the program and never return. Sometimes that will snowball to other players leaving, "Come on man, we don't have to put up with this." With the lack of numbers, I see coaches afraid to be tough to make players better men because they are scared that their numbers will dwindle or at worst their parents will go and cry to an administrator who will back the parent regardless of the situation just to please. It's not what it used to be and let's not be too fast to blame the kids because a lot of this starts at home. Just my observation...

I think if any school is looking for any kind of coach in any sport they need to come to Eastman in Kingsport because there are probably around 2000 of the 8000 that work here that believe they can coach any sport and they would do it for free because they already have a day job!

  29. I’ll say this for any players who may be reading this board. I’ve always found it true that if you focus on doing the little things right, the big things and the accolades will follow. Stay hungry; don’t go fishing for attention; don’t read your own press clippings; and keep making yourself better every day.

  30. I am so impressed with Tazewell's grit and resolve this year. I had this team pegged as an 0-10 team for sure, but that team isn't quitting. They may not make the playoffs but you have to come away with respect.

Come out tomorrow to the game and support this great family.

  34. Our public figures, in both political persuasions, have done a borderline unethical job of setting public expectations for this virus. One of the things Flip-Flop Fauci actually did correctly was to temper expectations for the vaccine, because the results wouldn't be a known quantity for some time. It was unclear if the vaccine would work like the flu vaccine (significantly cut the risks) or like the measles vaccine (wipe the sucker out). Turns out, the results are more akin to the flu vaccine, which is A-OK. However, expectations were set at an impossible level. What I cannot agree with is that the "bar was lowered". mRNA vaccine technology has existed since 1991. There was a SARS vaccine (COV-1) that was about 90% done but shelved due to the lack of presence in Asia for some time. The whole "we don't know the long-term effects" is a complete red herring, plain and simple. We have known for some time that the supposed "long term" effects of a vaccine usually manifest extremely quickly. Lo and behold, that's exactly what happened here. We found out that the J&J vaccine will cause blood clots in a microscopic percentage for women. Moderna #2 will make a lot of folks feel cruddy for about 24 hours. And, that's it. If anything "bad" was going to happen, it would have happened in the first 340M data points. To fit your analogy, it's not like 60% suddenly constituted an A. It's more like you took a 3-week summer course that would normally be a 3-hour fall/spring course. You still learned everything you needed to learn, and the final exam was just as hard. But it passed, not with an A, but probably with a B+.

  40. Allow me to clarify. It's not that it had been 6 years since they beat Amherst. Last night's victory was apparently the first for Liberty (formerly Bedford) Middle School in ANY football game since 2012. My 2nd born son is a member of the team (mostly bench sitting WR/DB this year) and he was only in for a couple of plays. But he and his teammates are walking a little prouder this morning. I asked him what they did to commemorate a win the next day in school (like wearing their jerseys, for example). He obviously didn't know. Sorry that this isn't SW Virginia related or probably even of interest to very many people. Just wanted to indulge in my own little Moment of Zen.

  42. Also, was very happy to see our boys have the NS stickers on their helmets, our coaches had the NS on their polos and the cheerleaders had purple ribbons in their hair. Byrd lost a senior girl, Nala Saunders, on Wednesday morning suddenly and purple was her favorite color. So I was really happy to see us honor her last night. Also, I thought it was very classy for the Blues to get to the 2 yard line with 1 minute left and Byrd only having one timeout and instead and scoring and going up 13, we took a knee at the 2 to leave it a 6 point win. Felt like that was a good move, especially given the fact that Byrd was playing for NS.

    NEW WEBSITES...

To be honest, that is what I wanted my original website to be like but I didn't have the time to put in the effort to do all that...that's how it ended up as a forum only. Now, these guys have stepped up and have done a tremendous job in gathering information and putting it out there. I will continue to be here, and hopefully, they'll continue doing what they are doing and these three sites will be the best you can find in Southwest VA and Southern WV. I also have to give a ton of credit to VHSLhelper...what he does is also a tremendous addendum to everything that is here now!
