Talking of next week’s game against Fort Chiswell, Williams said, “I think the biggest thing is our guys have got to know they can go down here and win the game. Every year I’ve been here we’ve had games where people picked us to get slaughtered, including against Fort Chiswell two years ago. I have no doubt in our kids’ ability to go down there and win the game.â€

    http://www.cnn.com/2013/08/21/justice/australia-student-killed-oklahoma/index.html?hpt=hp_c2

For some reason, CNN's just not going after this one with the same gusto that they did when George Zimmerman (Latino) killed Trayvon Martin (black). Despite it being overwhelmingly the hardest trending topic on CNN's website, CNN places as its main article the 6th-hardest trending article, a piece about a female being groped while on an exchange trip to India. Though CNN is devoting some air time to the article, it's by no means the center of attention, nor is CNN sending Don Lemon in to cover the situation. It's just "another story" in Mediaville.

Of course, CNN has to at least do something. From that halfhearted desire to do its job comes the article above. Again, this article isn't the lead. Note how, in the entire article, CNN never mentions either the race of the accused teenagers or the race of the victim. You have to look at the pictures to determine that. Juxtapose that with the image of the three accused teenagers on the website as the story's introduction, and it's even more bizarre that this simple fact isn't mentioned. With the Zimmerman/Martin situation, what was the first thing CNN keyed on? Interesting, eh?

But that's not what upsets me most; what upsets me most is how biased and deceptive the article is. The article practically feloniously bashes the reader in the face with the theme that "THERE WAS NO MOTIVE WHATSOEVER".

    (1) Paragraph 1: "apparently bored and looking for somebody to kill..."
    (2) Paragraph 2: "indiscriminate shooting..."
    (3) Paragraph 4: "you are 15 times more likely to be shot dead in the USA..." (straw-man + desensitization)
    (4) Paragraph 6: "It could have been anybody -- it was such a random act."
    (5) Paragraph 7: "indiscriminate nature" (the second time that particular word appears)

That doesn't say: "thou protesteth too much". That screams it out of a bullhorn into a microphone that leads into an amp with 50,000 watts of power behind it. Again, CNN wants to make it exceptionally clear that "RACE IS NOT A FACTOR". Which is hilarious to me, because again, they not one time mention race. Race may well not be a factor in the killings. But then again, it wasn't what led to Trayvon Martin's slaying, either.

TL;DR: American media having liberalism bias and being hypocrites.

This week we had our best turn out yet, with five voters; would still love to see more of you take part. Just like last week, pesky Giles has stolen another first place vote from Fort Chiswell, although the Pioneers are still comfortably on top. This week I've added each team's overall record next to their poll points, resulting in the interesting sight of a three-loss team right below our four undefeated teams. But I digress, without further ado, here is your Top 10.

    Fort Chiswell (4)          49        7-0 Honaker                      41        7-0 Giles (1)                      38        7-0 Haysi                           35        7-0 Richlands                    29        4-3 Union                           25        6-2 John Battle                  18        6-1 Clintwood                    15        5-2 Galax                          11        3-4 Marion                         6         5-2
    Gate City                     6         4-4
Also receiving votes: Graham (2) (3-4)

I understand the rule that is being enforced by the WVSSAC, but it's still a damn shame that because of the circumstances, they still deemed him in violation.  Granted I'm a little biased towards Bluefield and I know the younger Collier brother, mother, and their situation, but this may be the only shot the kid has to use basketball to get a chance at a college education.  I wouldn't be surprised to see a court injunction to block this rule to get Collier back to Bluefield, but I don't want to see the courts brought into this at all.  On a positive note, he may be better off for playing at another school in another state for a different coach.  I don't know.  He may have better teaching in the class and on the court and he may get better exposure to college coaches.  We shall see.

I'm routing for the kid no matter where he is.

Infofelcode reacted to Slap the Mat in Region 2A West Wrestling 2013-2014
:) Region 2A West has approved a regular season and post season format.

In February a committee of wrestling coaches was formed to create a new format for next season. The committee had a coach from each of the conferences. Tim Woodward-Graham, Luke Owens-Central, David Street-Appomattox, Tim Jennings-James River.

The plan has been approved and here is brief overview:

The coaches main point of emphasis was an all-in Regional Tournament (19 wrestlers qualifying).

The region has been divided into East & West Sub-Sections. Each Sub-Section has been divided into two Divisions (D#1 & D#2)

East Sub Section-D#1-James River, Appomattox, Chatham,
    Martinsville, Randolph Henry
D#2-Graham, Glenvar, Marion, Floyd Co., Grayson Co.

    West Sub-Section-D#1-Tazewell, Richlands,Grundy, Central
D#2-John Battle, VA High, Lee, Union, Lebanon

Each Division will have a Super Quad during the regular season to determine seeding in that Division.

A Sub-Section Tournament will take the place of the District Tournament.
    D#1 vs. D#2 wrestlers in each Sub-Section. This tournament will determine: East-E#1 to E#10 & W#1 to W#9.

Sub-Section Tournaments will determine seeding for the Regional Tournament

The Regional Tournament will use a 16 Man Bracket with Pig-tail wrestle-in matches for weight classes with more than 16 wrestlers. The same brackets will be used for all weight classes. Format: E#1 & W#2 in one half of the bracket and W#1 & E#2 in the other half. This eliminates #1's meeting in the semi-finals.

Infofelcode reacted to BandanaVTDavis4321 in With the Galax-Graham game, it's pretty clear how good F. Chiswell is
And this will give Graham fans an idea of just how good Fort Chiswell is.  They completely manhandled Galax.  The G-Men can come back and make this closer with Galax, but this will definitely give Graham and idea of what lies ahead when playing on the road at Fort Chiswell.  The score or beating may equal that of the Bluefield game.  It will simply get out of hand early and be over by the end of the first quarter.  FC also won on the road at Galax, well they didn't win, they stomped them on the road.  Galax did this to Graham in Bluefield.  Graham will finish its season at 5-5 with wins coming against Narrows and Bland, and a loss at Fort Chiswell that may exceed 35 or 40 points.  If you think Galax is good (and they are) you haven't seen nothing yet.  The team over there at the 77/81 juction is a totally different beast.

The Shake-Rattle & Roll Cats from Gpysum Flats will take their road show to the Creepy Trail this Friday. Now this bunch of HIP CATS are sniffing at an Extended Road Tour come November and a win on the Creeper would move The Shaking Cats up from their present spot on the Road Show Tour List to a much better GIG LOCALE. The Creeper Mob is also looking to move up on that same list and understand that a BIG win over the Shaking Cats could boost their chances of holding an ICE CREAM SOCIAL in November. Word has it, that the Ol’ Salt Shaker may take some time off the campaign trail to attend this match up. He can also do some hand pumpin’, kiss a few babies, tell a few tall tales, sell some popcorn. He may even flip the coin. Look for the Shaking Cats to be tuned up for this one but the Creeper Crew will cut the power to the Cats’ amps.

This win clinched The Interstate Bowl Series Championship for Coach Puddin’ and his Black Felines. Up next is another game in the BDD TIDY CAT BOX TROPHY chase. Coach Puddin’ and his Black Felines travel to The Sandlick to take on Coach Colley and his 6-0 Red Cats. The PK Felines will have to really sharpen their claws for the cat fight. These Red Cats can throw & run. Matter of fact, the only other teams to throw more than Coach Colley over the past 30 plus years are the Univ. of Houston, BYU, and the Canadian Football League. Coach Colley and his Red Cats have been “Bowen†over ever foe this season and are to go 10-0 plus more. Coach Colley and the Red Cats will not cut the PK Cats any slack in this one.

Since the Ol’Devil has left the school on top of the hill at the Mouth of Mew, the once playoff Blue Imps have gone down, down, down to a 1-6 record. The PHEW at the Mouth of MEW has gotten the Buzzards of Buzzards Roost a Circling. The Blue Imps will try and get rid of some of that PHEW Friday night as they travel down the DOGTOWN TURNPIKE to take on the Coonskin Cap Lads. Lebanon lost a close one to Abington last week and well----Ah its was Abingdon and they haven’t been any kind of threat on the town’s cow pasture in recent memory. The Coonskin Cap lads are off to a 2-4 start this year and the best thing we can figure out is that this could be a very UGLY game. It could get so UGLY that they will be skimming UGLY off Little Cedar Creek and Copper Creek till Christmas.
    Lil’ Leonard’s Loser: Lebanon

Uncle Percy insisted that we pick this game because the Lebanon Middle School cancelled (twice) their game with Riverview Middle School for Thursday. The reason this time, so their Middle School football team could ride in the Homecoming parade and there is NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. However, if the Coach and/or whoever does the scheduling knew ahead of time about the parade they should have not picked this date for a make up. You disappointed the Riverview kids and their parents by cancelling.
