  1. Chilhowie with coaching? I will say a very strong tradition but PH in last 10 years would be hard to pass on tradition. Rye Cove willt be the tea to beat. Look for RR and Eastide to be top 4 along with another HOGO school
  2. The question for any job but especially coaching is why do you do it? I have seen a lot in my 60 years good and bad. The world has changed and in my opinion not for the better. So why do people coach? It has been discussed about older coaches and the new young bucks. Today is a different animal and some of our legendary coaches styles and attitudes would not get the admin support of old. I think we would be better off with the style of preparing our athletes for the tough world we live in and holding them accountable. But when the admin gives in the to pressures either from parents, central office or buddies that get in their ear it becomes more challenging for the young coaches. Have you read and seen videos of things that goes on at high school sporting events. It has become a crazy a world.
  3. WE live in a sad time. Unrealistic expectations and belief of a D1 player. Most colleges today have a recruiting coach.......for their own players to make sure they don't leave!
  4. Interesting topic. How about over the last 10 years? Who has a strong program, consecutive winning seasons/playoff berths? How about a program that was down after years of success and is on the irse again?
  5. Great topic. But everyone is talking about state championship coaches. I believe there has been some great coaches in our area that were at smaller schools and didn't have the resources or numbers to win a state championship but doesn't take away from what they put on the field. As an example with not any disrespect intended, Coach Robbins before PV did not have a great deal of success with W and L. Coach Colobro left and went 0-10 at East. Coach Cummins built a dynasty at Clintwood but could he have done that at Ervinton? I just wonder who through the years were great coaches that are not being mentioned in this diccussion. To me James Colley, Don Williams, Jimbo Adams, Kevin Saunders, Roger Rife, John Adams, Steve Wright is a just a few that I can think of off the top of my head that always produced great teams and played hard. Just food for thought.
  6. I think if you look at the ADM numbers Ph is far from being the largest 1A program. I am pretty sure they are under 400. I also think Chilhowie, GW are larger. Across the state there would be several more over 400 and closer to the 475 mark. Yes, East looked good against both PH and Northwood. Future looks bright for the Spartans.
  7. Twin Valley Dressed 14 and had 3 out with two more pickups from the rumor mill. Played hard and has a dandy little fr QB. Loss both but looked like they gave good effort. Eastside was surprisingly solid after last year. PH was huge and best team there. Hurley played hard and had their moments. Castlewood has a good Qb and good wr. Northwood had a bigger roster than expected with an athletc qb and solid rb.
  8. Wow! That would be a surprising choice. They haven't finshed a full season in 2 years and hire an assistant. According to the grapevine at least 2 proven former head coaches interviewed.
  9. Difference is Chilhowie had a young man that was heir apparent. I do think it was wrong if I heard correctly about bringing couple people in without a teaching job and wasting their time. money and effort. Especially that the experience level and success. What does Auburn's guy bring to the table? I wonder if they just interviewed local coaches not to repeat what CHilhowie did?
  10. When will it be announced? Maybe if they had a top guy that is why they didn't waste the other candidates time. Any hints on who their 'guy" is?
  11. Been quiet on this hire as of late.......
  12. Back to Auburn, what is the latest?
  13. 2019 QB was a transfer i thought and his leading reciever?
  14. So does Chilhowie go with Smith County Doss or homegrown Sturgill?
  15. former head coach at Auburn or in the Montgomery school system?
  16. Did they make any changes to their football schedule? Tough district with great teams and coaches. I would think they would lighten up the out of district games.
  17. Tough job but they do win in the other sports. It was not posted is it open or will they fill from within?
  18. Which 2 schools? I know Coach Robinson has his hands full-AD, FB and baseball coach that would make sense understanding his love of baseball but the other two had 1st year coaches.
  19. PH started playing at Emory in 18 because of field conditions on their home field. With that big crown the field would be a mess. I guess they like the opportunity and since Region D had been using UVA-Wise for years they decided it was a win-win.
  20. Lebanon has had a good season but with the weather the field is going to be a factor-favor Grundy. I dont look for it to be a shootout for that reason. Grundy 30 Lebanon 12
  21. What was his injury? I saw on Twitter he was being released from hospital. Prayers for a speedy recovery.
  22. I have both and really impressed with each but you may be forgetting about McPhail from PH. Kid just has another level. He has to be in the mix when speaking off the other two.
  23. Comes down to penalties and turnovers. If PH hangs on to the ball and doesn't commit penalties PH 36-20. If they do 22-21 PH
