swvafbrespect got a reaction from redtiger in Best Coach in SWVA History
Great topic. But everyone is talking about state championship coaches. I believe there has been some great coaches in our area that were at smaller schools and didn't have the resources or numbers to win a state championship but doesn't take away from what they put on the field. As an example with not any disrespect intended, Coach Robbins before PV did not have a great deal of success with W and L. Coach Colobro left and went 0-10 at East. Coach Cummins built a dynasty at Clintwood but could he have done that at Ervinton? I just wonder who through the years were great coaches that are not being mentioned in this diccussion.
To me James Colley, Don Williams, Jimbo Adams, Kevin Saunders, Roger Rife, John Adams, Steve Wright is a just a few that I can think of off the top of my head that always produced great teams and played hard. Just food for thought.

swvafbrespect got a reaction from Hokie Bound in 2023 scrims/jams/bg's
Twin Valley Dressed 14 and had 3 out with two more pickups from the rumor mill. Played hard and has a dandy little fr QB. Loss both but looked like they gave good effort. Eastside was surprisingly solid after last year. PH was huge and best team there. Hurley played hard and had their moments. Castlewood has a good Qb and good wr. Northwood had a bigger roster than expected with an athletc qb and solid rb.

swvafbrespect got a reaction from Jags52 in Auburn job open
Difference is Chilhowie had a young man that was heir apparent. I do think it was wrong if I heard correctly about bringing couple people in without a teaching job and wasting their time. money and effort. Especially that the experience level and success.
What does Auburn's guy bring to the table? I wonder if they just interviewed local coaches not to repeat what CHilhowie did?

If you walked into your place of work today and your superior told you you sucked and proceeded to cuss you out so you would be motivated to work hard that day is that considered old school?

Guys just want to weigh in on this. SO if you do what everyone else to get kids out what happens if they dont lke the weight room and want to do something else? What if they hit too much in practice? No offense but RC does not have a spread type athletes in my opinion. Today Riverheads is playing and do they throw? Do they tell Casto what to run? How about last Monday night when the Patriots threw 3 passes? Has Belecheck lost it? the best teams playing today for the state championship will run the ball in my opinion. I know Graham is dynamic and give there coach credit for using his athletes but to criticize the rc coach for single wing shalll I say Giles?

Riverheads is a fantastic example of what can happen when an entire community gets behind a coach and let's him lead the way: trusting him, following him, and supporting him instead of undermining him and actively working against him

The thing that will get kids out at RC and keep them out is the same thing that does it elsewhere…winning. With RCs attendance numbers and football numbers, they don’t need an O or D where they will be wearing their players out running them up and down the field. Their D needs to be simple and easy to learn…with success based on effort and discipline. On O they need a ball control system that enables them to shorten the game, so they can be in it late and decide it then. Whoever offers that, is who they should go with.

Good points on Harner he also in those 67 wins was a perfect 9-0 against NW. PH and Holston so once they left the schedule so did his 9-10 game winning seasons. Throw in a couple Bland and Auburn and narrows before Coach got Narrows going and exactly who has he beat?

Falconfan great points. Times were different in the days I believe you were talking about. Anyone that would want to compare today's education to the good ole days are just plain wrong. Yes kids slipped through the cracks and graduated but the same things happen today. It goes back to everyone gets a trophy mentality.
