  1. Probably correct, but Ridgeview obliterated Battle. I think Abingdon struggled with Battle.
  2. Article doesn't mention anything specifically, though I didn't see Kirtner's name in the box score, so I assume he was out at the very least. There's no way he's being held scoreless if he's playing.
  3. Just wanted to add the text from the article for clarity. Not debating you @sixcat. You definitely know more about that district than I do. 🙂
  4. This result surprises me after the Maroons run in the Arby's. Granted Auburn is usually pretty good as well, but the Roanoke Times article on the game said Auburn had already lost in district play? Who did they lose to?
  5. Just noticed that George Wythe is nowhere in @Stelley rankings... Granted they lost to Auburn last night, but any top 10 without G-Dub in it is invalid.
  6. Plus you can't navigate anything there without the hideously annoying ads....
  7. Ok, then that has all changed just recently then. I was told as late as last week that Graham and JM were playing in that deal.
  8. You won't have to wait till March for Graham and John Marshall to play. They play at Virginia High later this month in the Big Shots showcase.
  9. Everyone seems to forget that Ridgeview beat Battle already on the road.
  10. That was a good tournament. I remember Haysi playing in that a few times back in the day. Some good games back then.
  11. Abingdon was excluded from the district tournament a few years ago if I recall and they got livid with it. Or maybe that was baseball/softball. It was one of the three sports I remember.
  12. I think typically SWD goes by regular season champ is #1, then tournament champion/tournament runner up if regular season champ also wins tournament is #2, third place game winner is 3 and third place game loser is 4. Mountain 7 does regular season champ is #1, the other three is based on some kind of compilation between regular season finish and tournament finish since 3A Abingdon is also in the district.
  13. I don't think you'd see blowouts if the PVNB would invite teams like West Ridge, Unicoi County, Letcher Central, Pike Central and maybe another SWD team. Instead of having four M7, three Cumberland, and three Hogo. Yes Arby's typically has blowouts in the first round when it's a local vs. a non local, but after that it's pretty competitive. Just this year alone, Arby's had: one of the best games in the history of the tournament with Mentor and George Wythe. a comeback for the ages with Imhotep (down 27 with 4 minutes left in the third to win over Maryville) tournament records set with 3's in one game by a team and 3's by a team for the tournament. Not to mention all the D1 and future power 5 players you're going to see on a yearly basis. Unfortunately there were only a few folks who saw that 27 point comeback by Imhotep as that was the late game that night and even myself left at that point, because even I feel that a 27 point lead is pretty safe at the high school level.
  14. Yeah, I'm not going to argue with the folks on here anymore about it. I am in the thought process that you are that there needs to be more variety. It has the potential to be a great tournament, but I don't want to spend $10-$15, whatever the session cost is to watch district games in a holiday tournament. It's apparent the majority of the folks on here like this tournament the way it is though, so be it. I didn't even like the fact that D-B played Maryville last week in the Arby's. Even though it's not a district or even region matchup, it is a decent possibility it could be a substate matchup later down the road.
  15. And Battle is in his top 10 who lost to Ridgeview who's not.
  16. On Harlan County: “We are 50 times better than them,” Mark said. “I don’t respect coach from the Harlan team, because you had your own relationship with the referees and that’s why we’re not shaking your hand, because you already knew the game was fixed. I don’t care if anybody wants to look at me funny or crazy, but what I just seen and what I endured and our kids being called boy – it’s ridiculous.” On the refs in general: It wasn’t as much the calls that made Mark furious, but a matter of deportment by the three refs. “You don’t call kids boy, OK,” Mark said. “You don’t call kids boy on the floor, OK. You know what I’m saying. I don’t even want to reference it; I don’t even want to go into it. “ Yet, Mark wasn’t finished. “That was embarrassing,” Mark said. “That was very embarrassing. I’m gonna reiterate that – you don’t call a young man boy. In this time, this era, you don’t call kids boy, you understand? That’s not how you treat people that come up here to try to compete for your event. It’s not how you treat people.”
  17. I was there and sitting right behind their bench. He, as well as their whole team, are thugs. Were the refs out to get them? Sure. But they brought it on theirselves the way they acted the whole tournament.
  18. Me and a fellow member of the board were talking about this on Facebook this morning. Invite a couple of the Kentucky schools. Also some of the smaller Tennessee schools who don't get invited to holiday tournaments like Happy Valley or Unaka or UH. I'm not positive but I don't believe West Ridge was doing anything this week. If they were my daughter didn't mention it.
  19. You're right... I can see now where I was perhaps a little bit harsh. Based on the responses looks like majority agrees with you. I should've said "I don't like this tournament" and left it at that. Holiday tournaments to me are supposed to be about fresh matchups that aren't likely to be seen or at the very least maybe a future playoff rematch later down the road.
  20. I'm not alone... I'm just the only one who will say it. There will be people there today that I have talked to who feel the same way.
  21. Lmao. It's inevitable! Sure you can draw the bracket up that way for the first round but there is no way possible that you're going to avoid it the entire tournament. I will say one good thing about this... At least it IS a tournament. The Food City Thanksgiving Tournament at Sullivan East is worse than this. It's CALLED a tournament but it's NOT a tournament. The schools in it each play three games during the week. Best record is the tournament "champion". If two teams go 3-0 then they're Co champions. But at least district matchups are avoided in it.
  22. Don't worry. Haven't ever been don't ever plan to in the future either. Lol
