  1. Might take a minute longer. If that's a cycle, the chain came off, boys got split on the bar!
  2. And people want to say combine 1 and 2? Could you imagine how hard it would be to get out of 1D/2D? Sheesh! A&B would love that because they're still getting more kids while d would be leaving better kids at home, again.
  3. Curious so I watched video. Both scored a takedown. One got unsportsmanlike for nearly taking potters head off. Potter gets an escape to make it 4-2. Later gets a warranted stall call. Kid from central should have kept shooting, he was getting in and snapping potter down easy at times. End of match. Boring almost, but hey not bad for a one-legged wrestler. Gas tank looked OK for potter late in the match nearly thrown but recovered. Looked like a good match-up but potter has been in too many battles not to survive. Looked at bracket, central kid had a great draw to get to the finals. He had liberty and Southampton kid. Potter's side had Strasburg, potter, and radford. Bet a few 157s/175s are wishing they'd stayed 165 now. Looked better than the 4-0 match in regional week earlier. Wish the 2 were Jr's. It would be a good rematch next year a couple more times.
  4. Graham must not mix it up much with the M7, probably make for some interesting matchups. anyone keep a page like fourseasons football page?
  5. phyically a gifted youngin, i believe he's just a late bloomer to the finer points of the game. more often than not he wasn't an impact in the game. capable, just didn't get it done. watched a lot of film and it appeared teams ran right at him with little resistance and on the offensive-side he showed good hands only a few times but struggled blocking at times. hope he can find a way on the field now. last i saw him he's still a big athletic-looking youngin.
  6. Palmer is prettty solid, but this will be a challenge. I'm not sure it's going to be an attractive spot just yet but the potential is there. They've traditionally been tough, hope to see it that way again in 1A or 2A.
  7. Hadn't heard anything otherwise, but I would guess if he's going to see the field it's gonna be from an interior spot. Good athlete, just didn't look like he had the speed for that frame. Maybe he's developed some since. Wish him luck.
  8. I'm sure back roads are still frozen most places. Anyone fortunate enough to play? Another snow approaching
  9. After watching Central Girls team, I'd put them halfway up the boys rankings list. They're solid, fundamental, physical, and hustle. Fun to watch team ball there for the most part.
  10. Only currency good on here is a frostie, or a milkshake from the knob
  11. Dead Horse: Abingdon shouldn't have anything post-season inside the district. All it does is flip the bracket no matter what the sport and changes regional pairings because of district tourney finish.
  12. won't be decided until district tourney is over I would imagine. Both #1s and #2s will be on opposite sides from each other? swd1 vs m7-4 m7-2 vs swd3 m7-3 vs swd2 m7-1 vs swd4 don't keep up with basketball as much so I'm not sure, but I'm sure it's like football and has too many teams in it for extra revenue. Might be just the top 8 records inside the district/region?
  13. I think it'll come down to Graham, Gate City for the regional title. Lebanon, Union, VHS, Central, and Battle could possibly throw a wrench into the bracket and make a run. It's a long season and should be fun to watch how it ends up.
  14. not so much as "needs to grow" but expand to some teams from outside the region, or at least get to see different match-ups. I was reading the other posts and was under the impression a few matchups are too frequent with the teams playing each other on their regular schedule aside from the tourney. I'm not sure if it hurts/helps playing the same team multiple times a season. It is a nice venue, and good for teams to play on a big floor against possible regional opponents later in the post-season. I don't know the in's and outs of the setup, but maybe try to get the surrounding district champs and solid teams first, along with some tn, ky, and some region c teams that might be possible opponents on the way to richmond.
  15. I would imagine that schedules are made a year in advance. Sure it would be nice to invite defending district, region, and state championship teams, but how many of those are interested in playing in the combined 1D/2D regional tourney? You want it to grow, you gotta figure out a way to get some top tier teams to come in. If they can't compete against others of at least equal talent, they won't. As far as recruiting local talent, it's the same in every sport it seems with UVA-Wise. At the same time, and no offense to anyone, but the 1D/2D stat leaders might not be exactly what they're looking for. Good or even great amongst SWVA may not be good enough to impact the game even at the level of UVA-Wise. Their coach used to be an old P.H. Rebel but I'm not sure now, I don't keep up with it much anymore.
  16. A little early for that kind of talk. Competitive and the ball is bouncing their way a little right now, but they've not gotten into the meat of the schedule just yet. I don't see a clear #1 in the region yet, but gonna be some scrappy games going on after the first of the year into the post-season.
  17. I thought Dotson was on some kind of VHSL board/committee? If so, might be some kind of conflict there. Honaker (if it's the same one) has always been one of "those" guys that puts himself in a game to make a difference. He used to officiate football, but I think he just does some sideline work for wcyb. Officials do show bias most of the time and stay in there feelings because they get yelled at by coaches and fans. Gotta have a little thicker skin if you're planning on hanging around. People paid money to go inside and watch a game that's supposed to be officiated fairly so maybe they're just very disappointed in their investment. Central will be on top until someone stops them, good luck.
  18. true, if he goes the transfer portal and plays at chilhowie, he dominates d1 and possibly helps them to a playoff spot and getting maybe one extra game. He was solid and probably deserving of more recognition. I didn't get to watch many of their games to see what he did against Graham and Tazewell but what were their other games where he faced some good opponents and held his own?
  19. at least it's a little more on the classy side, Original "Name can't be spoken" was a little rough.
  20. Heard Union is cutting back a little, Fanny packs instead of backpacks lol.
  21. Watched him several times, depending on how he grows could be really special. He's one of those that can play a lot of positions on both sides and be an impact on special teams. Gotta account for him at all times.
  22. It's always been a sleeping giant as far as talent and athletes. They've had more success in the past couple of years in several sports than they've seen in while. I think most places in SWVA have similar issues with numbers, daddy ball mentality, poverty, etc. The Western end of Lee is by far one of the most beautiful areas around. Very little infrastructure to be had there, but definitely a lot of area. One of the biggest counties East to West in the state. Dead Horse: 2 school campuses East and West would've been better for everyone but for whatever reason it wasn't in the cards in the late 80s. Hope they can continue to get better, the district and region are a lot more fun when most teams are competitive.
  23. I'm sticking with the theory of the backpack's containing a platinum playstation controller to play on that tv on the sidelines. lol It takes a village, and they are lucky to have as much help for all the behind the scenes from August through the season's end on a yearly basis. A lot of those individuals help in other sports throughout the year as well in some fashion.
