  1. IMHO, the last few years of AHS's unis have been their best ones in school history. The Oregon-esque designs worked well with navy and silver.
  2. This was a pretty epic play for Giles, a school that has produced many over the years. GHS's TD pass to tie Brunswick in regulation during the 2013 title game. The Spartans eventually win 20-19 in OT.
  3. I watched Cox when Richlands JV played at Marion. I couldn't believe the kid was a just a freshman. He wasn't extremely accurate that game, but the young man has huge upside. He has the prototypical QB build (6'4, 200-ish), strong arm and plays with a confidence and maturity beyond his years.
  4. @UVAObserver @Bearcat Bob My families (both growing up and current) have had an unusual Tech-UVA mindset. Different members of the family had their favorite school but never pulled against the other team. I'm a Hokie first but still pull for the Hoos as they represent the Commonwealth and Conference. My earliest memory of college basketball was watching the '76 ACC Tourney with my dad. I remember us being so excited about UVA's unlikely run which ended with Virginia shocking the tobacco road elites by claiming the title. That winter I pretended to be Wally Walker with a makeshift nerf hoop in my house. The Ralph years were particularly special but the title proved elusive . We all watched more special teams come and go but a natty seemed agonizingly out of reach. And now, 43 years after a young Terry Holland won UVA's first ACC Tourney, Tony Bennett has now brought home the ultimate trophy. Congratulations, Hoos fans! Banners hang forever.
  5. Agree. A lot of good softball down this way. I'd add Volleyball and Girls Basketball as the area's top 3 overall.
  6. The stats of two MLB players next to a perfectly engineered baseball cyborg. Harper: 7.5 WAR Machado: 16.1 WAR Trout: 27.3 WAR (2016, 17, & 18 seasons)
  7. I know Mennonites are slow to embrace progress, but you'd think they'd have a 3 point line by now.
  8. I concur that BH leaving is for the best. The CBP band box will be kind to his stats and he'll be a thorn for years to come. But if he stayed, the Nats would've likely lost Eaton, Rendon, et al. ensuring a decade of mediocrity. I'm excited to see Soto and Robles join a healthy Eaton in the OF. Dozier solidifies a talented infield. Corbin gives WSH the best top 3 in the MLB while Gomes and Suzuki fill a big hole behind the dish. Rizzo's fielding a solid team AND getting back under the luxury threshold this season. And yes, please send BH a few bucks. $300m over 10 years just ain't what it used to be. Bryce needs record $.
  9. As a Nats fan, I just don't see them winning the 2019 NL East (aka Anchorman street fight). The Braves are getting no love as the defending champs (seriously, a game below the Mets?). Philly signed half an all-star team during the off-season and are slated at only 86 wins? 10. I believe (and hope) that both Harper and the Phillies will live to regret this contract.
  11. Extra points for incorporating Gate City, fighting, McClung, Kool-Aid, cowbells, and Jesus into a single post.
  12. There is a natural geographic bias that affects all regional papers. I'm not saying that's the case here, but Graham is on the periphery of the BHC coverage area and nowhere near to its circulation area. We fans can be purists, but the media doesn't always have that luxury. After all, newspapers are in the business of selling newspapers.
  13. Congratulations to Coach Amburgey. I appreciate the justification for his selection and don't envy BHC for having to select only one winner. My personal vote would be 1. Tony Palmer 2. Garrett Amburgey 3. Mark Palmer
  14. This is how I choose to picture Brody. Congratulations to this young man on a well-deserved selection.
  15. George Welsh took Cavalier football from laughingstock to a number #1 ranking and national credibility. UVA was a basketball school in a basketball conference, which featured a single football power (much like today). In what I think was UVA's greatest win, Welsh and the Hoos shocked the nation with a win over an insanely talented Florida State team in '95.
  16. If my calculations are correct, Mac reached 2,000 points on the nose on January 5th in his 10th game of the season. He played in 20 more games averaging 40.05 ppg (801). He finished his career with 2,801. This would put Zac on pace with a number of obvious assumptions.
  17. There was no mention of a successor. I've heard Riverheads teaches the double wing at every level beginning with rec ball. An assistant familiar with the system could keep this team on top for a while. Perhaps a Ragsdale-Williams transition would be possible for RH.
  18. "We're gonna run the Picket Fence at 'em...Don't get caught watching the paint dry."
  19. Below are possible symptoms for a mental disorder. At first, I thought it described this thread. But on second thought. I believe it describes every thread on this site. -Affected people lose their train of thought during conversations, make loose associations of topics (tangentially jumping from one topic to another apparently at random, or on the barest of associations), and give answers to unrelated questions. -Speech may be highly circumstantial, meaning that affected people may speak continuously, providing numerous irrelevant details and never getting to the point. -Occasional speech that is so disorganized that it becomes a completely jumbled "word salad" devoid of discernible meaning despite being full of words. -Easily agitated with bizarre, socially inappropriate outbursts.
