True, hopefully with the forecast for tomorrow it will be a better turnout. I know I am not happy about having to work, but sometimes that happens. I'll definitely be keeping up with it on here and trying to listen to it on the radio.

Gates open at 12? how many are already standing in line with a fire going? From what I heard about the John Battle game, Union better get its fans hyped up a little bit and pack the park a little better than last week. I didn't get to go and won't get to go tomorrow because of work, but someone said you could hear everything the coaches said while they were talking to players on the field. That is absurd......the park is usually packed and you can't hear the person beside you talking.......

Yes they did, not sure of the year, but I remember watching Burton play up there, maybe when Ethan Stewart was the QB, the year Burton got beat in the State Championship game.

Heard that Graham had one punt that hit their own line and Va High picked it up and ran it back for a TD. Maybe the kicking game falters a little bit Saturday and gives the Bears a couple breaks. The kicking game is a very important part of the game and I feel like it has evolved so much over the past 10-15 years. Seems like back then teams struggled to make an extra point, now we have kids making 40+ yard field goals, and actually punting the ball and trying to pin the other team deep.

As far as coaches helping in weight lifting. What happened to kids going to the weight room and lifting by themselves. Gotta have a little want to about yourself to want to get better, coaches cant hold your hand all the time. I say clean house from top to bottom in the football program and bring someone in who can start his own program and run it the way he wants it and try and turn things around. Seems like coaches around here just keep getting shuffled around.......

Graham by 200, according to this thread they might as well not even play the game!!!! Some people make this forum very fun and interesting to read and some make it horrible to read. Union is not the same team as last year and everybody know that, Graham is much improved, gonna be a tough game for the Bears. Good Luck to both teams and I hope both teams play injury free football and whoever wins I'll be pulling for them in weeks to come!!!

Agree with you goose111874, I myself have criticized Turner for his play calling this year, but to be 9-2 after losing 21 seniors last year is impressive to say the least. I said in the first post of the thread I was very proud of the Thomas Walker Pioneers, Nick Johnson and his coaching staff has done an excellent job in Ewing. 2-8 two years ago, to making the playoffs two years in a row a d playing for a Cumberland district title this year speaks volumes about the kids and coaches. I know Nick personally and you can't ask for a better man to be leading a football team, he loves his players like they are his own and pours his heart and soul into that team and community. Johnson has my vote because like stated above, he has took a team that wasn't expected to do much and put them in the playoffs two times in two years!!!

For Union to win, Something drastically has to change with the offense. If Union gets down they do not have the high powered offense to get back in games quick! If the Bears can limit Allen and Lester and make Graham beat them another way it could be a good ball game!!!! I'm not good at predictions so I'll just leave that open for everyone else to do!!!

haha you are forgetting how good his old days playing and coaching....... I hope someone brings Gate City back, it used to be a fun game to go and watch and was a good rivalry game at one point, now to most people it is a win marked on the schedule.

I think Union needs to establish the ground and pound game early.......getting Jenkins going quick and maybe hit a few big plays early. Would be nice to get the running game going and then hit Falin or Giza from the tight end position to keep Battle honest. I think Union is a lot better team than what they showed last week. Defense done its job last week and hopefully they step up big again this week. WIth Polier being back on defense it only makes the Bears D stronger.

Cold and Sunny day, with all the rain in Big Stone Gap yesterday, does this change the outcome of the game or change anyones thoughts on this game? Are they already lined up at the gate at Bullitt?

Looks like the the sun will be shining for this game, but it will be cold. I expect a hard fought game, but I just don't think Va High can overcome Graham's speed. I look for Graham to win this game by 21+ and travel to Big Stone Gap next week to face the Bears. Good luck to both teams and I hope it is an injury free game for all involved.
