This recipe can be made spicy by mixing in one fan base speaking a language the other doesn’t understand.

Really Ryan? A Richlands guy looking for clarification or the intricacies about a WV/VA transfer from McDowell County? That's like a an Italian guy from Brooklyn asking what pizza is made of. Come on man

I applaud your enthusiasm but my 25+ years of experience in the engineering world tell me, everything reasonable goes out the window when design and construction involve state and federal agencies.
Tree removal, sediment basins, and retaining walls all require DEQ permits before construction can begin. DEQ review of construction plans is a minimum, 9-month process. More often than not, it's longer. If they require changes to the plans, the calendar starts all over again.

No kidding, me and the wife make special trips to Lebanon just to eat Bonanza! Idk that its that good, but its comforting I guess. Brings back memories from the past when I thought Bonanza was a fancy steakhouse

Bonanza management thanks you for keeping Crigger away. We can add one to that tally from football season also.

Every team meal at Bonanza has resulted in a LOSS, so much that, we haven't took a team to eat there in nearly 25 years. We consider the place cursed. But the buffet is almost worth an occasional L

Whoever the coach is he has to agree to let the McAmis girl play QB.......in a wildcat........with no other RBs or WRs on the field.
Those are the terms.

It looks like 25 schools in AAAA, 30 schools in AAA, 29 schools in AA and 41 schools in A.

Seems quite watered down to me.

South Carolina just enacted a rule for the upcoming season, schools are free to recruit and students can transfer out-of-season without penalty. However, any school receiving a student living outside the district boundaries must count that 1 student as 3 students for ADM purposes, whether that student plays a sport or not.

If VHSL were to adopt this unique system, LCA would most likely be Class 6.

Much like Tech is trying to regain the Tidewater area. I think it's only fitting for the presser to be held in McDowell County. It's time for Richlands to get back to their roots and retake their stake of that area.

chipinbogey reacted to Liam McPoyle in Question...
IMO, students are ill-equipped to select a proper school name. Most have little knowledge or appreciation for local history, geography, or fauna. The results are unimaginative and generic names and mascots best suited for a Disney Channel high school.

The title games are generally on one of the local stations out of the Tri-Cities and you get the whole series both days, or it may be 3 days. I want to say it is on the CW usually but do not hold me to that.

I believe ole Dennis is far too old now. Wouldn't Vault be around 70? Vault could absolutely flat out coach. Talking about a damn field wizard, this guy was one of them. Look at this cat long before the cleat thing and his success.
It's really/was really a tough break for Richlands based on the events that one day in 1992 because Richlands might have had another title or two in the 90s with Vault still the coach. It's really a true /what could have been. I just dont think the younger generation on this board realizes actually how good of a coach Vault was.

chipinbogey reacted to bucfan64 in UVA Wise coach call it quits
For whatever reason there is a lack of commitment to produce winning athletic programs at UVA Wise.
Not saying all coaches and all players aren't committed, but rather that there is something missing at UVA Wise and I can't put my finger on it.
Players and coaches that pour everything into their craft do not appear to have the kind of support that they need from administration, alumni, student body or community. And those players and coaches that aren't as committed, talented or knowledgeable as they need to be, in order to be competitive, are allowed to stay around too long.
It's almost as if fielding a team is enough, a high standard, overall, does not appear to be a part of the UVA Wise culture.
Mediocrity, if tolerated, will breed apathy, and before you know it everyone is just going through the motions.
There is no excitement or enthusiasm with any program at the school. The culture of mediocrity will continue to grow unless something or someone comes in and shakes things up in Wise.
Whether it's true or not, I couldn't tell you how many times I have heard people say, " that school isn't committed to winning"

I don't think the local staffs do a particularly good job of preparing them for the reality of college and college sports. All too often the high-school football "stars" are given unearned breaks at their schools. It has always been that way. They aren't prepared on how to study and how to collaborate and utilize and incorporate multiple disparate data sources to produce cogent products and conclusions. As mentioned earlier, a lot of those professors "don't play" and couldn't give two cents that you play football.
Now, throw in the football side. Let's do some 06:30 (am) lifts during the week of football season and have weekly meetings and mandatory study hall and, my favorite, 08:30 recall meetings Sunday morning (so you can't party too hard Saturday night). Oh, you want to go home this weekend to watch your old high school team and see your girlfriend? No, you are hosting recruits this weekend. Now, throw in the fact that your very best may not even move the needle or catch the coach's eye because 10 others can do it as well or even better than you. You better have a "team-first" attitude to even be looked at.
Here is the ultimate kicker about college football. Daddy. Don't. Matter. Your local cachet or hook-ups, etc., don't carry water at all. That is why, the staffs that don't fall into the daddy ball/nepotism/favorite ideology and adopt a "play the most talented" mindset, prepare their players the best. Another major injustice some of the local staffs do is not adopt a consistent and quality S&C program. Every recruiting visit will have a stop at the gym and you will meet the trainers and S&C coach. His voice will be horse and gravely and have a crew-cut and will say the following: "Your son will spend more time with me and my staff than the football coaches." And it is true.
A final issue is that, unfortunately, a lot of our local kids are socially isolated here. They aren't used to being surrounded by a majority of kids that don't sound, look, act or think the same. It can be a shock and, all the while, their boys from back home (and their parents) are saying "You gonna be home this weekend? Let's go out, There's a party at Skeeter's". They will miss family events for the first time.
Did I mention that they will devote 5x more hours to football than they ever did in high school and devote 5x more hours to studying than they ever did in high school and their old friend's will always be in their ear to come back home and hang out.

chipinbogey got a reaction from olewave in Hurley and TV combining football teams next season??
This is exactly the reason. Buchanan County has spent millions developing flat land (nonexistent outside of surface mine reclamation sites, like the one that has been developed) to create more modern facilities and drive the county into a more modern era.
God forbid they used some foresight and selected this to be built close to the CFX connectors, not in a flood plain(also tough to do in Buchanan County) and what is developing as the "new" town.
I remember when Whitewood and Garden consolidated and at the time, you would have thought we were on the verge of war. Turns out the kids adjusted just fine, and the throngs of petty adults eventually accepted the fact that Buchanan County's population continues to dwindle, coal isn't making a comeback, and while community schools are a sense of pride, they must concede to the fact that one newer and full school is better than 2 or 3 half full schools that bleed the county year in and year out.

I normally stay out of these types of talks. I am hopeful they find someone who can turn such a tradition-rich program back into a winner. A formidable Richlands team is better for the health of SWVA football as a whole. The talent cycles and swings of area are now commonplace at almost every school except a handful. Richlands was one of those handful, and I think it still is even today. There's not many places that compare to a rocking Ernie Hicks on a Friday in the fall. They have facilities, community support, and some hard-nosed kids. Those are what SWVA football is all about.
They have faced the perfect storm to bring the program to where it is now, and it will be fun to watch the resurgence.
