  1. I agree with you. If you have hire a head coach that know the game inside and out but you dont have people around them that can help your program is dead in the water. The best head coaches in my opinion are not only able to coach kids but are able to coach their coaches. If you have 5 or 6 assistant coaches that are good people and can buy into what the head coach is teaching then you have a good staff. You dont need a high profile staff even though that would help. You needs guys that are willing to learn and will buy in to one philosophy. The great coaches are able to get the best out of their staff so their staff can get the best out of the their kids. Also having volunteers that will work for backpacks or other sway is helpful so the guys in charge of coaching the kids dont have to worry about laundry, water, filming, med kits, travel bags, extra equipment, ect is really nice too
  2. Haha I know a little bit of ball but I will pass on that job. Too much outside influence for my liking
  3. I personally didnt think the offense was the problem last year. They were not going to win a shoot out but they were not the reason they lost games. #17 is the best player on their team and I thought they did a pretty good job trying to get him the ball. He played some RB TE and WR that is who you build the offense around. Now that defense had more holes in it than a screen door. That should be the first priority. I know most people think his brother will be coming over from Graham which my help but Richlands doesnt have the cats to send 6 or 7 every play and play cover 0 in the back end so unless he has something else in his tool belt that wont help much either. I dont know what side of the ball Davis specializes in but first thing he has to figure out is DC or OC which ever he isnt going to do then he needs to go find a good OL guy. Richlands used to be pretty good in that department last year was hard to watch.
  4. I'm not sure if there is a clear top 3 Graham and Union are the teams to beat respectively in both district Second tier- can hang with the top tier should have better athletes than everyone else Tazewell- QB and best WR is back so they can still score on the lower tiers at any moment but graduation did take away some of Creasy's weapons. I expect this next season to look a lot like Harris senior year. How can we get McDonald the ball Gate City- On the rise. Bledsoe graduates which is a big loss but I am hearing that Houserights son can sling it. If that rumor is true they have pretty good skill out side to make you pay. I think their coaching is good enough to over come playing some younger players early. I would look out for this bunch Ridgeview- The only reason I saw Ridgeview is because of O'Quinn who must have taken his COVID year Third tier-Any team in this group could jump up and beat a tier 2 team but doesnt have to horses to run with a tier 1. They could also slip and and lose to the bottom tier if they have a bad day. Marion- Graduation is going to hurt this bunch, this senior class was pretty good. I think Ginn has done a great job in the weight room with these boys you can tell the difference when they get off the bus. This isnt your doormat of the SWD any more. This years team will have a lot of new faces but not young these upcoming seniors will have 3 years in Ginns feed the cats program and I think it will play off. The Flexbone is finally started to look as frustrating to opposing teams at Giles single wing. Ball control and a onside kick or too will win the Canes a few VA High- Young QB showed a lot of promise late in the year. That kid can run with the best of them. I think he will only be better and be the next "How long has he been playing" QB in the area. Their numbers where low last season which is concerning for the future but Coach Patterson is a great coach and a great person he will work those hall ways and get the kids out that he needs to be competitive. Lee- Pendergraft and Early are back and with a Coach Carroll offense they should have plenty of fireworks on that side of the ball. They Pendergraft will be entering his 4th year starting on varsity and I think he is due for a break out season. Defense was an issue at times for the Generals this last season but I am confident that Coach Carroll and staff will refocus those boys in the offseason and right the ship. Lebanon- If Reese can get any help from a supporting cast Lebanon could explode this season. Reese has the best arm talent in the region by far and if he stay at Lebanon I they have the chance to knock off anyone they play in the shoot out. The defense has got to get better for the Pioneers and they have to find a run game outside of Reese scrambling around. If they can find those two things then Lebanon is dangerous. If Reese finds himself on another roster you can bump Lebanon down a tier and move up who ever get him. Bottom tier- can catch a team above them slipping and get a win but against tiers 1 and 2 it should be a running clock in the second half John battle - Battle upset Abingdon and Lee last season but lost to close games against VA high and Holston. If they pick up wins against those 2 then they are a playoff team for the first time since 2018. IMO Battle is the toughest coaching job in the region. No other coach has to deal with playing 3rd fiddle to basketball and baseball. Hats off to Coach Ricker for putting together their best season in 5 years maybe they are turning a corner but until I see other wise they are the best of the bottom group. Central- If they got another super class it cant get here soon enough. This team was a shell of what it has been the past few years this season. At the start of the year I looked like they had new life with the transfer QB but once he got hurt it was a long year for the Warriors. In the past they had hung there hat on having a stingy D and a tough OL with a run the ball mentally until you broke. This season it looked like they had a hard time getting a first down on air and their defense was giving away TD like Opera gives away cars. Maybe they bounce back this year but it going to take some work Richlands- coming off the worst season in program history things can only get better for the blues. I lot of this boils down to who they hire as head coach but even if they get a homerun hire I do not think there is enough there to see quick results. If they give the right guy time to reset the culture and install a system that works for what they got then I would move them up but it wont happen over night. Richlands will stay down here for atleast another year or two
  5. I remember looking at Tazewells roster and seeing that their top 3 or 4 pass catchers were seniors. Creasy might find out next year what Reese felt like this year. IF the stats are the same without all those weapons and he end up breaking that VHSL record POY should be a not contest.
  6. The best I can do is show you who made first team
  7. Any body who was wondering who made first team all SWD here you go. If their name is on this list they were 1st team.

    SWD awards

Oh I 100% agree with that. I am sure the rivalry had a lot to do with this. IMO Tazewell is in a dog fight with VA High Marion and Lebanon without Creasy at QB. I think this whole conversation boils down to what these awards mean to the people voted. Is it given to the best player, the player that has the best stats, or the player that meant to most to their team. Creasy's stats would by far put him as one of the best in the state. One could argue that the best QB in the district is Mike Reese and if you put him on Tazewell or Grahams roster his stats would be better. Also if you vote a kid POY he is automatically 1st team at his position which brings back up the Reese Creasy debate again. If POY is the kid that meant the most to their team its probably Clements but he missed too much time during the season to get that award.

    SWD awards

Graham doesn’t finish 9-1 without Edwards and Clement’s being hurt
  10. Are you hinting at someone that hasnt been mentioned yet?
  11. Sound be soon now that Union is done
  12. Interesting fact for Honaker this post season is that this will be the 3rd straight rematch from the regular season. IF they win the 3rd rematch in a row they will play a new opponent for the first time in a month.
  13. Clements 47 yard TD run called back for a hold
  14. Gate City is doing exactly what I thought they needed to do get in double right and run it right at them. Shorten the game and they have a chance
  15. Gate City has a chance if they get in their 2 TE set and milk the clock. I know they got an athletic QB and they like to throw it around but if they start the game with a few short drives this one could get ugly.
  16. Chilhowie had a chance to kick a 20 yard FG with about 6 minutes left in the game and went for it. Direct snapped it to Strugill while the QB just shifted to the side and did nothing. Their kicker has won them 2 games this year why not give him another shot. Then in over time pre snap penalties and 2 negative runs out them in 3rd and 4th in long. Poor end of game management IMO but congrats to Twin springs for the come back.
  17. Tazewell is always in the shotgun doesn’t make since to go under center when you never do it
  18. 4yard TD run by Chilhowie to take the lead 14-7 10 minutes to go in the second
  19. Chilhowie ties it up 7-7 2 minutes To go in the 1st
  20. Twins springs up 7-0 long TD pass on the second play
  21. Musick 1 yard TD run Honaker up 24-15
  22. Honaker goes uptempo all the way down the field and punches it in on a 3 yard run but Musick on 4th and goal. 2 pt good Honaker up 16-15
  23. It will probably won’t be until tomorrow since they moved that game to Saturday at 1
  24. 1D is wild! Honaker is down 15-8 20 seconds to go in the half. Wonder when the last time the 1 AND 2 seed get taken out in the first half
