Daddy ball has ruined many a program or team’s success.
Edit: and ruined many another kid’s potential and love of the game in pursuit of the almighty meaningless LL championship.

Show me a LL program that is locked in with the varsity HC and I'll show you a successful high school team. The more active the varsity HC is with the LL program, the more success. The more daddy ball can be eliminated or reduced the more long term success.

It can be an indicator of potential, but a lot can change in a few years.

That’s the subjective part. I’m assuming in Narrows case, comparatively speaking, the recent seasons must be considered a success by the other poster describing them. I don’t know enough about them, other than being better than they used to be.

The problem with a few local Little League systems is that they cut teams and stack talent to win championships. It is sad that a few people value a title at the Pee Wee level like it actually means something.
For example, when the Richlands program was in the middle of their most successful run, the league that fed into the HS program had 5-6 teams, spread fairly evenly with talent and 20-25 kids, allowing all kids to play and learn the game.
Now, there are two teams, with 35-45 kids each, and many just watching from the sidelines. Not to mention that some of the poorer kids are not able to play because of the travel demands the current system has in place.
Furthermore, I've seen firsthand some kids who may have hit a growth spurt early and dominate the lower levels only to find themselves peaking too early and leaving the game altogether once their dominating play has disappeared.
As long as Pee Wee trophies are the goal, that's all you'll see on the shelves in the future.

In all fairness, I should probably concede and define success with all the examples. If state title or bust, then almost all are disappointing results. But if regional titles or similar results are considered successful, then the answer to my question is obviously yes 90-95 percent of the time.

No offense to Allen, but he benefited greatly from what Dixon and his staff had built at Galax.

I believe you are correct, however, I think there was a lot of politics involved in that situation. I think he left for a year or so and was at Auburn HS before returning to Bland and played a big part of getting Harris Hart back to Bland and was a body in the building trying to get kids out for football; basically brining back a dead or almost dead program. Defiantly and interesting hire by Galax, but Reed seems to have helped rebuild Bland and now he might be on the same path at Galax. It will be interesting now to see what happens at Bland once he is gone. Will Bland continue to grow and sustain or will it drop off once he leaves, while Hart is still presumed to be the head coach at Bland I believe he has retired from teaching and is no longer in the building each day which is key at small school especially during a rebuild. Guess we will see how it goes at each program.

Rick Mullins was able to take Clintwood from a 2nd tier LPD team to a regional force and a state champion with multiple state title appearances during his tenure at Clintwood, he was a long time assistant at a few programs.
James Colley was an assistant at Ervinton and Haysi before taking over the Tigers, granted Haysi had played for a region title right before he took over.

Just because you were shitting you're diaper when these things happened doesn't mean it's not a viable in this scenario.

You get zero points for either of those two. 1 one hit wonder season doesn't classify as turning a program around. Rife for Garden only had 2 winning seasons in 9 years....not exactly a turnaround I would say? Im assuming you're talking about Rowe for Grundy who had 10 winning seasons in 24 years.

Just got Alleghanys schedule since I mentioned it in the post above post. Alleghany will not play Glenvar or Radford this season. Alleghany will have 8 games in its new Shenandoah District joining, and the 2 non districts games are against Brookville and Greenbrier East. Glenvar and Radford, especially Glenvar stands a high chance of going 10 and 0, or 9 and 1 at worst putting pressure on Union/Graham for that state semi home field position.

Its awesome that local kids are getting the opportunity to go to the next level especially at higher level programs

Three Rivers District in 2025 will have 3 D1 Quarterbacks, but Alleghany is technically moving districts so it's actually 2 D1 QBs.
Glenvar-Brody Dawyot-upcoming senior, UNC-Charlotte, ODU, Coastal Carolina, Maine, Norfolk State, Bryant, Richmond. Larger schools will likely follow over the summer. Wake Forest, VT, UVA, UNC are all close and have high interest.
Radford-Luke Gaither- upcoming Junior and the number 1 ranked class of 2027 QB in the state of Virginia by one source-Arkansas, App St, UNLV, Toledo, Liberty, Delaware, Sacramento State. Over the next year, likely to have major power 5 offers in addition to Arkansas. Notre Dame, Penn State, and Louisville are all close and have high interest in him
Alleghany-Desmond Jordan, upcoming senior, very high GPA, offers from Cornell, Maine, Middle Tennessee.
I've seen all 3. I think the kid from Alleghany is better than Dawyot and Gaither. Our kid at Radford is a bit of a surprise. His rankings and offers largely come from summer camps and spring camps where him and Dawyot from Glenvar traveled together and Luke is scoring very high in these camps. Both of them are traveling together/camping together again this summer along with Desmond Jordan from Alleghany. Look for the Bobcats to be much better this year and to give Glenvar (the favorites in Class 2, Region C) a decent battle, but Alleghany will beat both of us again. I've heard Alleghany will still play us (not sure though) and Glenvar in 2025, but Alleghany is moving to the Shenandoah District and will have 7 games from that district which includes Riverheads, Stuarts Draft and Staunton. Alleghany playing Glenvar and Radford are key games for Graham and Union for that 14th game playing at home or on road because Alleghany likely puts Glenvar and Radford at 1 loss to start the season which figures big into power ranking and homefield advantage for the semi's in game 14.

I thought everyone that had a hudl account was d1? Lol Hope to see many of them play at the next level, any level above high school. Really great run of athletes in the region the past several (20) seasons. Say what you will, but it appears a certain Tazewell county is showing up and showing out several times when it comes to getting kids to the (any) next level. Fingers crossed that g- men come out in the bone first series this fall bahaha. On a side note, watched ab interview with G-men assistant, favorite place to play is Salem! Think big, go big.

So there's been like 4 or 5 answers covering a 40 year timespan??? 2 were obviously wrong and ridiculous that went all the way back to the 80's. So we have 2-3 promotions that turned struggling teams around out of hundreds right? Wow, they really got ya bud!

OK, Dookster, let me ask you and your Giles County kin folk a question. The last 5 or 6 years, the Giles record has been terrible, to say the least. Was there state championship caliber talent there? Absolutely not. But, at the same time, the other County team was experiencing one of the best 5 or 6 year runs they've had since the late 70's and early 80's. Same county, all the same scenarios' you listed for Giles fall, somehow didn't effect the Green boys 7 miles down the road. Help me understand, my friend. And the only thing I'm hurt about is I didn't see any effort whatsoever from Coach Williams to stop this trend. In my opinion, he was buying his time till he could get full benefits from teaching retirement. Hopefully, we'll find out soon if I'm right or wrong. And whatever happened to that great running back ya'll had about 10 years ago? He play any college ball?

That's your problem. you want other people's opinions, so you can sit back and poo-poo on them, without throwing out any serious ones of your own. Why? I'll tell you why. You've been a friend of Jeff Williams your whole life. As well as friends with the so called "good ol boy network." Because every Giles poster on this board knows who you are, you won't criticize the network. Don't want them confronting you standing by the fence in front of concessions during pre-game warm-ups or writing you speeding tickets going through Pembroke doing 48 in a 45. At least give the "J" Man credit, everyone knows who he is, and he knows the good ol boys monitor this board, but he's still man enough to call it like he sees it.

Going to change the subject a little.. Jeremy Haymore’s book “The Bandana Express” is now available for preorder. This book is based off the 1980 Giles state championship team. Here is a link to Amazon if you’d like to preorder!

And do you know the reason Williams waited to announce it? No obviously you don't

You have no idea what all went on...so I want nick saban...he isn't coaching...does that answer your question? Now since you have a hard time picking names why don't you throw some out there

What difference does it make? We could all make a wish list of people who obviously didn't apply. Likely Williams planned it this way to ensure the next good ol boy got hired. Sam is obviously gonna get the position and nobody even said he wouldn't do a good job. He's definitely a step up from Williams and it'll show his first year. Some of the current staff/assistant coaches have said hes probably not head coach material so we'll see in time. He definitely needs to get some thicker skin and if he's gonna take that position though. Criticism comes with the territory and whoever should focus on winning a damn football game instead of what's said on this forum.
