SwvaOG got a reaction from Backpack in Week 6: Richlands @ Ridgeview
Well, if you're going to hang out here you need to understand a few things:
Union folk are never happy.
Giles is experiencing a civil war.
Tazewell somehow has become overrated.
Graham is Graham
Ridgeview will only go as far as their Dline will take them.
We can't figure out Gate City
Lee is on the upswing.
Eastside is on the downswing.
We're not sure about Burton.
The whole damn board dislikes Central.
We have our own internal drama, so you may not go directly to the front of the line.
Enjoy.

You forgot about Riverheads enrollment and how everyone hates Central

😂😂😂Yeah, because us Graham fans have the Richlands’ coach & principal on speed dial! Y’all keep all that drama on the western end of the county. We don’t want any part of it! 😂😂😂

I agree with the statement above. I’m not aware of as many details, but this is a vicious cycle which creates a volatile environment. Losing exacerbates the problem, creating the blame game, and the rats jumping ship. Only a special group of dedicated, reasonable people can change the course. It takes passion, tempered by reason. If a talented group of kids and parents can stick together, hopefully the cycle is reversed. It’s ok and admirable if a group is able to align both self-interest and the good of the group. I assume that’s what happened at Graham.
Again, I can only speculate the details about today. In my own experience, I can’t claim a state championship, nor individual accolades. I can, however, point to a pattern of hard work and parallel growth that was learned from Greg Mance, Dennis Palmer, Ronnie Davis, Jeff Tarter, and Terry Wess among many others. I only hope the issues are corrected for my kids to learn the same lessons.

SwvaOG got a reaction from Austrian Ben Shapiro in Tazewell @ Grundy
If the weather is nasty the line moves toward Grundy. This should be a nervous game for the Dawg fans. A sloppy field in the rain…plus Nelson being a documented tough place to get even calls….favors the Golden Wave.

Richlands is a hot mess right now with a group calling for McGee, Vencil, & Tarter to go. Seems like a select core group stirring the pot & getting others in an uproar to take up the cross with them so to speak. Kid wasn’t playing the entire game anymore & coaches trying some different stuff. Mommy got mad (egged on by some former coaches , hearsay) & kid quit and possibly transferring to Lebanon. I’m not sure why anyone would want to coach in that end of the county these days with all that drama. Tarter is a much better person & dedicated person to tough it out for those boys than most would be.

Thanks for your service to the youth in your community. It’s sad that the few good ones are often overshadowed by the louder, if not more numerous, voices of the problems.

I know some players in the past weren't thrilled about being moved but after the fact they thanked their coach as they developed into much better athletes at that new position.

This is a hard one to pick.
Grundy lost some close ones....and beat the teams they should have beat solidly.
Tazewell beat VHS and Battle. VHS looks great on paper with a 4 - 1 record but lets be honest the strength of schedule is pretty week with them playing FOUR!!! 1A schools and (1) quality win vs Central.

It is a primary reason I no longer coach at any level. I love teaching the game(s) to kids so I continue to work with the occasional kid or two on the side. I had a run in with a parent immediately after a tough lose, a grandmother who was only worried about her grandson not getting to play at the end of the game. It was a devastating lose and I escorted her out of the area and told her I would be happy to speak with her but it would be on my terms and not in front of the kids or her grandson, who was incredibly embarrassed. Most parents don’t invest in the training or skill building for their kids and expect coaches to turn Jimmy and Joey into All Stars. Youth sports has become toxic…..has been a while now. I hate to see this situation. A young kid, who by all accounts loves football, gave up half of his Jr season and probably will have to look elsewhere to play next year. I hope his parents didn’t force that or drive that decision.

Yeah…I was thinking the same thing. Kid could have asked “Where do you need me Coach?” Many a kid has switched positions and thrived. Not everyone can be the pitcher, SS or QB.

SwvaOG reacted to Counts in Week 6: Richlands @ Ridgeview
On the year so far
Burton is Averaging 190 yards on the ground Ridgeview Held them to -15
Grundy is Averaging 289 RV held them to 153
Central is Averaging 241 RV held them to 194\
Lee is Averaging 159 RV Held them to 123
From what I have seen so far this season RV does play the run tough but tend to give up one or 2 big runs(Plays) per game.
