  1. [ QUOTE ] So GMan, Tazewell gets to host Piedmont Runner-Up and is that likely Tunstall? Any word..... [/ QUOTE ] Yes...Tunstall.
  2. The Cassell is ROCKIN!!!! I was there the last time VT beat a Top 10 team (Memphis St in '86)...it looks the same tonight as it did on that Saturday afternoon!!! Way to go HOKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. I thought his answer was dead on...nothing wrong with it in my opinion...
  4. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I don't think it was mentioned on either of the two sources you listed [/ QUOTE ] It was on news channel 6 last night, and the bluefield daily telegraph today... [/ QUOTE ] I'm talking about the "we already knew that" quote...WE already knew that from discussion on THIS message board 10 or so days ago...therefore, WE, the members of this board, already knew what the media, BDT and WVVA, reported only yesterday...
  5. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] We already knew this LOL [/ QUOTE ] Some people didnt know about this. Not everybody gets bluefield news channel's and bluefield's paper. So i was telling people who didnt know about this, where he planned on going. [/ QUOTE ] I don't think it was mentioned on either of the two sources you listed...it was first brought up HERE on this message board... Congrats to Rusty!!!
  6. Who's defense SHUTOUT Virginia High last season? Tazewell? NOOOO. Grundy? NOOOO. Richlands? NOOOOO. Wonder who it was...25-0....
  7. [ QUOTE ] I do recall that VHS was in the Region 4 football Championship this year. While others were getting ready for basketball to start. [/ QUOTE ] For the first time...EVER! Like I said, they aren't used to this post-season stuff...
  8. From the VDOT website... *** High Profile *** ------------ Section of Route 460, adjacent secondary routes in Buchanan County closed due to mine fire (Wed., February 16, 2005 - as of 2:30 p.m.) Due to efforts to contain a mine fire at CONSOL Energy’s Buchanan Mine, the following routes have been closed in Buchanan County: - Route 460, from Route 618 to Route 727. All truck traffic must detour using Routes 83 and 80. Cars must detour by utilizing Routes 624 in Buchanan County and 637 in Russell County. - Route 680, from Route 629 to Route 736 (from the top of Young Mountain to Honaker Branch) - Route 626, from Route 460 to Route 632 - Route 632. The closures are expected to be in place up to 72 hours. These closures are necessary for the safety of the traveling public. Due to the proximity of these routes to mine ventilation systems, it is necessary to shut down the routes. Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes. Pay close attention to signs and workers directing traffic around the area.
  9. Going to be a long trip to Grundy for the District Tournament...
  10. [ QUOTE ] Hey, Gman. Can we start a "'80s Football" message board? Or we can call "15 year chip on shoulder" message board. Maybe even "no one born after 1980 gives a shat" message board. [/ QUOTE ] Careful now, you are stepping on my toes with that idea! How about I make the message boards "no one born after 1980 can post"? That would take care of a lot of crap but unfortunately it would also eliminate some good posters as well. How about I take care of things by banning a few certain posters who abuse the privilege of posting here...
  11. [ QUOTE ] I have heard, but can't confirm yet, that Parkersburg South and Bluefield are going to play this season. This person said that the contract has been signed and returned to PSHS, but couldn't confirm the date of the game either. [/ QUOTE ] All that means is Bluefield signed the contract and is willing to play P. South. The only question is...will P. South sign the contract and play the game???
  12. Seriously, I agree about the home court being a HUGE advantage this season. The only other year that came close was around '99 or so...it was a similar situation where road victories were tough to come by in district play. Graham pulled out a close one at Tazewell on the last night of the regular season and won the district.
  13. the rest of the district teams took notes on how things are done in Hillsville... That was only a joke...and a bad one at that!!!
  14. I ***think*** this is how it will play out... First round games are played at a neutral site within the district of the host team...for example if Martinsville is hosting Lee, it would be played at Bassett. The Highlands District will be hosting the Region Semifinals and Finals...likely to be played at Virginia High.
  15. [ QUOTE ] Abingdon has been the dominant team in the area this year by a pretty good margin, except last Friday . Does anyone know what Martinsville has? Can Abingdon take them? Also, it looked to me like the Highlands runner up would have to go to Martinsville and Grundy would have to come to the Highlands winner which will probably be Abingdon [/ QUOTE ] Y'all must be "slo larners" down in Bristol...oh, no, I forgot, you folks aren't used to this post-season fun in any sport other than baseball. No Highlands or Southwest team has a shot of beating Martinsville...PERIOD! And it is very likely that Tunstall (the likely #2 team out of the Piedmont) is better than all the other teams in SWVA with Abingdon being the only team that MIGHT have a chance against them (and only because, if they play, it will be in Abingdon). Here is how the Regional Tournament will be paired... Bracket 1: Piedmont Runner-Up (likely Tunstall) vs. Southwest Runner-Up (Tazewell/Graham/Carroll Co.). The winner of this game will play the Highlands Champion (Abingdon). Bracket 2: Highlands Runner-Up (Lee/Marion/Virginia) vs. Piedmont Champion (Martinsville). The winner of this game will play the Southwest Champion (Grundy). The winners of each bracket will play for the Region Championship. The Region Champion will host the State Quarterfinal game against the Runner-Up of Region III. The loser of the Region Championship game will travel to play at the Region III Champion in the State Quarterfinals.
  16. [ QUOTE ] It would be neat to see a comparison of how many points are gained by beating a good 8-2 or 9-1 single A team compared to beating a .5oo AA team. For example, I would think Richlands got more points from beating a 9-0 A team in Lebanon than Grundy got from beating us when we were 4-5. If this is so, I don't think GC and Honaker will hurt us in points at all, especially with CC possibly down next year. Of course, none of it matters unless you win the games. I guess we'll see next fall [/ QUOTE ] Here you go... Pts. for beating a Class A (Division 1) team with a 9-1 record: 29 (of course this means you were the only team to beat them) Pts. for beating a Class A (Division 2) team with a 9-1 record: 30 (of course this means you were the only team to beat them) Pts. for beating a Class AA (Division 3) team with a 5-5 record: 25 Pts. for beating a Class AA (Division 4) team with a 5-5 record: 26 Now the FLIP SIDE...points if you lose... Pts. for losing to a Class A (Division 1) team with a 9-1 record: 10 Pts. for losing to a Class A (Division 2) team with a 9-1 record: 11 Pts. for losing to a Class AA (Division 3) team with a 5-5 record: 10 Pts. for losing to a Class AA (Division 4) team with a 5-5 record: 11 And now for the FLIPPIEST OF SIDES... Pts. for losing to a Class A (Division 1) team with a 5-5 record: 6 Pts. for losing to a Class A (Division 2) team with a 5-5 record: 7 Pts. for losing to a Class AA (Division 3) team with a 9-1 record: 14 Pts. for losing to a Class AA (Division 4) team with a 9-1 record: 15 For the record...I don't think V-High has a snowball's chance in a warmer climate of beating Gate City...PERIOD...and they will have a very tough time with Honaker...
  17. (4-18) 60 Magna Vista (6-11) 79 Dan River (3-16) 46 Semifinal Round...Thursday, Feb. 17th: Martinsville (19-2) 48 Magna Vista (6-12) 46 Tunstall (15-6) 82 Bassett (10-11) 76 Championship...Saturday, Feb. 19th: Martinsville (20-2) 73 Tunstall (15-7) 70 Southwest Tournament at Grundy Semifinal Round: Tazewell (11-13) 75 Graham (11-12) 63 Grundy (15-10) 64 Carroll Co. (10-15) 54 Championship: Tazewell (12-13) 67 Grundy (15-11) 60 Region IV Tournament Quarterfinals: Tunstall (16-7) 92 Tazewell (12-14) 57 Martinsville (21-2) 90 Marion (11-13) 51 Semifinals: Abingdon (23-2) 66 Tunstall (16-8) 64 Martinsville (22-2) 91 Grundy (15-12) 51 Championship: Martinsville (23-2) 64 Abingdon (23-3) 48
  18. [ QUOTE ] Trading out Grundy and CC for Gate City and Honaker makes us chickens? I guess that makes you the weak link we picked up. [/ QUOTE ] Go ahead...play that Single A schedule...those points will REALLY help come playoff time...
  19. [ QUOTE ] Was it at Carroll? [/ QUOTE ] Yes.
  20. [ QUOTE ] Why do yall only play about 20 games this season, compared to bluefield almost 30 something [/ QUOTE ] VHSL only allows 20 baseball games during the regular season...
  21. [ QUOTE ] shows ya the district is a toss up. [/ QUOTE ] Not on your home court...
  22. Graham blows 11 point lead but Tazewell can't tie/win with a last second shot.
