  1. I don't see Virginia going for Obama. I just don't. I think Obama would be better served to get up here to Pennsylvania (a traditionally blue state), another "battleground" state with more electoral votes in the mix.
  2. Because you live and die with them. Because you hope against any realistic hope that they won't get blown away. Because when they finally do achieve greatness, you'll feel that much better for it.
  3. Is he done in New York?-YES Is he done pitching in general?-NO Someone will take a shot on him in 2010, unless Wagner walks away on his own beforehand.
  4. Bullseye. And I know, Groh's squealed for years, and years, and years. He likewise had an incident on his Tuesday call-in show. And he harshly brushed a reporter off Sunday who was asking a couple quick questions after Groh came out of the locker room.
  5. Exactly, buddy. I had a ticket to the UVA-USC game, and I went. Drove three hours and baked in the sun, knowing we'd likely get throttled. And we did. And I'd never trade it for not going.
  6. I believe they could technically be on the lower reaches of AAA. Now, I'm not terribly sure of the 9-12 numbers of each school in southwest Virginia, so please correct me if I'm wrong. Richlands: 784 Tazewell: 615 Graham: 560 Were we to combine these, we'd have 1959 students in grades 9-12. That's right in the range of AAA, Division 5. Of course, this would never happen. Who wants to drive to Lynchburg to play a district game?
  7. From a UVA guy, I'm glad to see Royal do well. I respected him at VT, really seemed to have a lot of class.
  8. QFT. I think this shifts the power a bit. To whom, I'm not quite sure. Pittsburgh looked VERY impressive, though...
  9. Alabama has recruiting guru Nick Saban, and that explains itself. New coach + new coach with national title = full cupboard. Likewise, that ranking is inflated due to the Clemson win, IMO. Missouri's a feel-good story, and they've really risen to prominence in the last few years under Gary Pinkel (who, coincidentally, started in the same year as Groh), but they were quite mediocre for a while. But still, he's built his program from the ground up, and with their surge last year, has PLENTY of highly-touted recruits. UVA, on the contrary, is virtually the opposite of these two schools. Arrogant, mediocre head coach, an OC that was the product of nepotism, a revolving door at the DC position, and a stringent policy on player discipline. Needless to say, we can't afford the losses we endured. Basically, we've turned into "State U" without the good football program. I'd be willing to say that neither Alabama's or Missouri's casualties included a starting QB, starting LDE, and a #1 CB If so, they've got more talent than we'll ever dream of having under Groh. Heck, they do already. But I highly doubt their losses were that prominent.
  10. I think a drop THAT low is a bit unwarranted, IMO, especially with how high ECU was placed (#14). I would've guessed #18-#20 when the polls came out, but wow...
  11. And I was there for the UVA/USC game. Drove over 3 hours for it. USC is just miles ahead of everyone else. The best college football team I've ever seen with my own eyes. IMO, OSU doesn't stand a figment of a chance next week. It wouldn't shock me to see something like 35-7. But I'll still tune in :).
  12. I know the Spiders aren't as good as almighty ECU, but Richmond was ranked #4 in this week's I-AA poll. I know that UVA's not terribly good right now, but that tends to happen when you almost win the Fulmer Cup. From what I remember, last season wasn't too long... WVU was exposed this last week, plain and simple. That's not a jab at them, it's the truth.
  13. Trade you Mike Groh for Stinespring! I swear, I think anyone on this board with even an iota of critical reasoning could call better plays than these two. I'm not joking at all.
  14. BR makes several good points in this thread, all valid... And my apologies, BTail. LOL, it's hard enough for me to remember what day of the week it is!
  15. Cough-called it-cough. ;) I think it might be a long season, guys.
  16. I said it in another thread, I think: like two fat kids arguing which one's fastest. All the while the SEC, Pac-10, and Big XII blew right by us.
  17. How can they be 12-0 when UVA beats them in Charlottesville this year? ;) 1. Nah, this looks to much like ye olde transitive property to me: VT lost to ECU, WVU is losing worse to ECU, therefore we're not too bad! You can't judge a program like that. I think GMan figured it out last year that Duke was superior to LSU, if you took this theorem to its utmost limit. 2. If you're digging to find merit in your program based on the principle of "we didn't lose that badly to ECU", it might be a long year. Trust me, I know the feeling...
  18. Remember when Kirby Freeman went 1-15 for 13 yards and a TD about 2 years ago? He got a touchdown every time he threw the ball! Haha, sorry, but that's what this reminds me of. If you're only passing 15 times, and you complete less than half of that, you're too one-dimensional, IMO. Any team worth its salt's going to figure that out. If I seem a little punchy, I apologize. I'm just coming to the realization that the Hoos are going to lose to a I-AA school. And that I might be able to count Al/Mike Groh's football IQ on a couple of hands.
  19. Putting 68 passing yards and 24 points up on Furman isn't going to get you to the conference title game. Even in the pond-water-weak Coastal. Yes, I'm predicting Miami to win the Coastal. Remember, Florida's ranked #5 in the nation and from the Superior to Everyone Conference.
  20. At the half: VT-3 Furman-0 I'm calling it, Miami wins the Coastal this year. They're the only team on this side of the conference that's shown any life so far this season.
  21. Here's something that really doesn't even surprise me anymore, another player getting on the wrong side of the law. What's worse for Virginia, is that it's QB Peter Lalich. I hope UVA sends him out on the next Amtrak out, if these allegations are true. He's had more than enough chances to rectify the situation Now, let me finish chugging this bottle of Drano... Link: http://www.cavalierdaily.com/news/2008/sep/05/qb-lalich-cited-for-violating-probation/ Text: QB Lalich cited for violating probation Paul Wiley Published: Friday, September 5 2008 Court documents filed yesterday in Charlottesville General District Court confirmed reports that Peter Lalich, starting quarterback for the Virginia football team, has been cited for violating the terms of his probation. Lalich was placed in a pre-conviction probation program earlier this summer after he was arrested for underage possession of alcohol. An anonymous source close to the case reported that the specific violation relates to Lalich’s refusal to take a mandatory drug test. Rich Murray, University associate athletics director for public relations, declined to comment. Lalich’s court date is set for the morning of Sept. 26.
  22. And this is pretty much what I based my predictions on. And it's nice to be back, I'll be in every now and again, as much as law school will allow me!
