  1. Are you ready?............
  2. This is just another example of the impending Socialist Doom of America. 1. Don't keep score 2. Ban violent sports and let everyone play communist kickball 3. Give everyone on the team a trophy 4. Even though little johnny's team got beat by 100 goals, ooops we aren't supposed to keep score, tell him that he is just as good as the kid that kept bouncing soccer balls off of his head all night. 5. Raise TAxes 6. Make the ball fields more community friendly, by adding fresh paint and flowers, this will discourage coaches from making decisions that might seem hurtful to others. 7. put all kids on ritalin, this way we can shun our responsibilities as parents and blame OUR CHILDS lack of self esteem on some EVIL COACH 8. Dont' require anyone to be responsible for their actions, remember it's always someone elses fault. AFter all it takes a village to raise a child! 9. Oh yeah, don't require them to practice, some kids just can't make it to practice, GOD KNOWS that NOBODY WOULD ever be guilty of being lazy, so we shouldn't punish them for not being there 10. Equal playing time for everyone, regardless of talent, number of practices attended and ability. It's all about EQUALITY! 11. Raise Taxes Again 12. Build a Wall around Washington County to keep THE evil HATE MONGERING FASCIST away from our children! Finally, lets all build a camp fire and sing KUMBAYA as we hug and love our enemies to death! God this stuff kills me........................
  3. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I have to agree with buc64....The BDD teams have every spot but Wrestling....It would even be better for the Wrestling program.....Why would you want to stay up and take beatens by every SWD school in football when you have a chance to win 2 games in the BDD...Even in the BDD Grundy cant compete with Haysi and Honaker and it would be a toss up between Grundy Hurley and TV...The move only makes sense...Quit worrying about the financial part of it and think about the kids [/ QUOTE ] The financial part of it is about the kids. If GHS doesn't have the SWD teams to play in football ensuring large gates, how will the other sports get their funding? The RHS/GHS games are big money for GHS and the football gates support everything else. The other SWD teams have already said they would not play GHS if they go A. [/ QUOTE ] So let me get this straight....Grundy will be the only school in the area that will not be able to fund "other" sports if they drop to single A!?!?!? How then is it possible for Single A schools to fund their sports? This argument doesn't hold water. The only sport that Grundy offers that Twin Valley and Hurley do not offer is wrestling, THATS IT......they each manage to FUND other programs quite well, using a single A schedule. I admit that Grundy needs to stay at AA level. I realize that the gate loss would hurt their financial situation, but Grundy High School WOULD STILL BE ABLE TO SUPPORT OTHER SPORTS! There are a host of schools in SWVA that manage just fine to support just as many OTHER sports and they are all Single A. Some of these arguments have little to any thought behind them, and this is one of 'em. Would Grundy lose money by dropping to Single A? Yes and No. They would collectively lose money due to the loss of revenue from FOOTBALL gates with Richlands, Graham etc. In other sports such as basketball they would do fine, probably even better. They would not lose sports programs however as a result. This is not the issue. Lance pointed out something that appears to be the leading argument. What does Grundy have to gain by moving down to Single A? At this time which one benefits them most? IN my opinion (which may be wrong) I think they should remain AA until the other SWD schools make a move.
  4. I think Grundy did the right thing, but saying that there would be "LIMITED OPPORTUNITIES" is ridiculous. True the BDD does not have wrestling, but it does have every other sport. I know that Grundy would lose gate money by going to A, especially from the Graham and Richlands games and I think that it could have a huge impact on their budget. But to argue that the kids would not have opportunities in sports because single A schools do not offer them is not accurate. just rambling....

  10. You are right, there aren't a multitude of schools moving down every year. But to argue that GC, Lee, Virginia High and PV didn't move down due to a competitive disadvantage at the state level is not accurate. Since moving from NOVA in '98 I am aware of a dozen new high schools in the area, two new schools in the county that I once worked. When these schools are created, whether they come in as a AA school or a AAA school it DOES AFFECT SCHOOLS IN SWVA! For example Clark Co., which happens to be a small school in that area, in comparison to schools in SWVA, would be rather large and even AA. Single A schools in SWVA are not expected to beat schools with that enrollment at the regional level but they are expected to compete with them at the state level. When GC, Lee, Va. High and even PV moved down, competition in athletics WAS A MAJOR FACTOR, in their decision (is this not moving down to keep from playing with the big dogs?). It may not have been the only decision, but it was a big part of the decision making process. I do not think that these schools should be criticized for doing so, after all they realized the disparity and how it affected their potential year in and year out to be competitive at the state level. They did what was best for them. Many would argue that since the disparity between them and the rest of the AA schools in Region 1 and 2 was not so great that they should have stayed were they were at, but I do not agree, after all there are some AA schools in NOVA with much larger enrollments. These schools were put in a situation similiar to the current Division 1 Single A schools in SWVA. The facts are schools in region C and D are at a slight and sometimes very large disadvantage when it comes to enrollment and the number of athletes to pick from when compared to Region A and B. (by the way, I am aware that schools from SWVA can and often do compete well with schools from the other two regions, but to expect them to do it on a yearly basis, given the disparity in enrollment is not logical and therein lies the problem) The schools should not be criticized for doing what is best for them, it is the system that is flawed. I suppose that there is no perfect solution and as for now this will have to suffice. Although, I am not happy with the current proposal, I am happy that the the league has done something. If schools in our area that were once considered AA continue to be forced to move DOWN, where do the small schools in our area have go? They do not have an option and are forced to suffer in order to prevent the suffering of our larger schools in SWVA. While one problem appears to be alleviated another one is created. You are right about Grundy, I am an alumni of GSHS and I think that it is admirable that some schools still remain in familiar territory and choose not to be a big fish in a small pond, (Graham comes to mind as well) But, why should they continue to suffer as well?? Elliot, what do you think would be the best solution to the problem? 4A, 5A, 4A with Divisions, etc..........
  11. YEP Due to the fact that these new schools will have larger enrollments than some current Double A schools it would then force the smaller AA schools to move down.
  12. Nandua 717 Clarke Co. 755 Goochland 739 Wilson Memorial 733 Chatham 711 Lee 797 Va. High 700 With the rapid opening of new schools in NOVA there will eventually be some small AA schools with 900 enrollments qualifiying for Single A status. Check out the VHSL website for more info. regarding this FACT!
  13. Lobster stated it well "the concession stands!" Some would argue that the split was terrible and that it waters things down a bit. On the other hand it did prevent teams from C and D from having to play someone with 800 or 900 students in a state game. If the big fish would stop moving down to the A ranks this would not have been needed. I do think that the current system is not well thought out and I would prefer a 4A or even a 5A system. But I also will say that something needed to be done, many teams were moving down to avoid playing with the BIG DOGS and when a provision is made for small single A schools to do it the complaints get louder. Something needs to be done on a state level and this is quick fix is akin to putting a band aid on an amputated arm. nuff said..............
  14. It's gonna happen. The wrestling program will probably compete in the LPD or another single A district. If it comes down from the R & R, the decision will be the BDD, it is Grundy's choice to accept it or decline the placement. I believe they will move down. The possibility of Taz, Richlands, and Graham joining them is intriguing however. This would be great for Grundy, because it would allow them to maintain old rivalries and still compete with familiar foes in wrestling as well. NOnetheless, the decision is now left up to the powers that be at Grundy. BDD or stay AA???? Whats it going to be?

  16. Huckabee is a social conservative but economically he appears to be more liberal, a big govt. guy. I too am considering him and I really like what he has to say about things. I took education in ARkansas from being one of the worst to the top ten in the nation. However, anytime you do something like that it takes a big govt. mentality. It will be interesting to see who gets the nomination. Right now I don't think anyone in the Republican camp can contend with anyone in the Democrat camp. Nobody, is showing the same kind of enthusiasm for change that the Dems are and I can tell you right now that I AM NOT A DEMOCRAT! But the truth is the truth. I agree that a strong running mate could be the difference maker for a Republican candidate, whoever gets the nod needs to choose someone with a lot of charisma and public appeal. Another interesting guy is Ron Paul. Regardless of whether or not you like him, you have to love the way that he is going against the grain and calling out both parties for being in bed with big corporations. He is really a libertarian at heart and he is making the American public aware of some things like the private ownership of the Federal Reserve and the fact that the Income TAx is unconstitutional, he also argues the need for us to return to the Gold standard before a Depression hits this country. The guy is being totally ostricized by the media and most folks don't even know his name, this is a perfect example of corporate influence. Despite the fact that he raised 4.6 million dollars on Guy Fawkes day back in november (if you have ever seen V for Vendetta you know who Guy Fawkes is) and he has raised 19.5 million the last quarter. That is only half a million less than Hillary. It is an amazing story and one of interest to all Americans, whether you support the guy or not he is trying to expose some problems with our current govt.

  22. who shoots guns and throws hand grenades with their feet? The Germans were so inept at throwing that they had to have an attachment placed on all of their hand grenades during WWII, wheras American soldiers could throw curve balls and sliders with the little beauties. Despite the fact that soccer is a communist conspiracy the Fascist also used it, but we all know what happened to Fascism!
  23. Soccer is a communist conspiracy to deprive the American youth of their hand eye coordination. By playing the game of soccer American youth will lose the ability to throw hand grenades with accuracy, shoot machine guns with accuracy and will therefore become subject to a hostile foreign or domestic communist takeover! Down with Soccer, as Frankenstein once said "Soccer Bad!"
  24. The booth branch bunch plans on crashing the party, look for a Purple Gremlin with carpet on the dashboard. I recently had the ride pimped by the buchanan mafia. The flames were recently painted on by coach roll and apple. Olewave installed an awesome sound system. The 8Track player in the console with the Zenith house speakers in the back seat sound really cool, with the hatch up and the sound of FREEDOM ROCK blaring the purple party train is a local favorite at all strip job shindigs. The booth branch bunch will be coming over to celebrate coon dog style, get yer game on!
