Anyone else hearing the rumblings of a potential lawsuit in regards to the folks living close to the GHS project and the runoff from said project destroying some property?

Well, thats one way for their fans to make sure they continue to play at Mitchell Stadium

DEQ crap is over and done with.  Going to be pushing it to be ready by August, even if it starts this week.

Not starting this week or next week now.  Hopefully on the 15th.

So, while I was on vacation, my wife and I considered going to opening day in Chicago for the White Sox and Tigers.  Could have got tickets fairly cheap but the outrageous amount for parking was what made us decide against it.  Glad we didn't go now.

Tigers won 1-0.  I would have been bored out of my mind watching a 1-0 baseball game, especially with the one run not coming from a home run.

I imagine folks got bored out of their minds who watched that VT and Wake football game several years ago be scoreless in regulation.

I also get bored watching a 0-0 draw in soccer.  How do you feel @EH31 and @Ryan4VT watching a scoreless draw unfold?

It can still be fun. Just think of it like a pitcher’s duel in baseball.

I think this is a fair point.
Baseball is certainly favored in this area per tradition and some personal preferences, but I certainly concede that soccer skills and conditioning are certainly more transferable to not only football, but other areas of health and every day life.
Just my opinion, but I think my RB and WRs benefit from the sprints and cutting while playing soccer more than running the bases 3-4 times per game and/or tracking down a handful of fly balls in the outfield.

You explained what I was as getting at.

I think baseball vs. soccer is a personal preference and you’ll have a hard time changing anyone’s mind on the subject.

I only became a soccer fan a few years ago but I’m hooked now. It takes a while to learn it to the point that you understand it. And if you’re only watching SWVA high school soccer it’s going to take you much longer. Ultimately I enjoy the fast pace and the strategy of the game.

Nothing is wrong with being a baseball fan. I, as I imagine most everyone else here did, grew up watching and playing it. Somewhere in the mid 2000’s I lost interest in it and haven’t been able to pick it back up. I think mainly it’s just hard for me to commit to all the down time that takes place during the games.
so given the choice I would choose to watch a soccer match over most baseball games. Just preference.

Soccer is gaining a lot of traction in the USA currently. If you’re even thinking of giving it a chance now is a great time. Arguably the greatest player to ever play is now playing in Miami and playing in the MLS which has helped the image of the league to help recruit higher level players to America. Stadiums around the country are opening up their stadiums for international friendlies which is bringing some of the top talent in the world within driving distance of us. The player that most people consider to be the best current player in the world is going to play a match in Charlotte this summer. Plus we will have the World Cup here in 2026.

Give it a chance if you haven’t yet.

  5. Gofundme charges a pretty standard 2.9% for the credit card transaction plus $0.30 cents.

example: If you donate $100 to a Gofundme campaign then the recipient would get $96.80.
As crowdsourcing goes, they are one of the lowest when it comes to fees.

They obviously net a lot of money for theirselves because of the volume they receive being #1 in the industry but that is a trade off you take for using a well known & safe platform.

If you can donate at First Sentinel bank  then I would encourage that but if you can’t make it then I’d also encourage to use the Gofundme. They can use all the help they can get right now.

Despite winning 6 state championships in the past 10 seasons, Galax is on its 4th head coach in 4 seasons!!!

The talent is there, as always. Galax could legitimately field two state level teams and have some talent to spare. We'll see how the new coach shakes out.

    Why all the coaching changes?

I had no regard at all for soccer. And then I went and watched a match one evening because nothing else was going on. I had a death grip on the seat by the end of the match and was astonished with the stamina of the players. It's just different. Not my favorite by any means, but still fun.

Soccer is a sport you have to experience in person to really appreciate it.

I’d encourage anyone to make the trip to Charlotte to watch a MLS match. Tickets are affordable and the atmosphere is worth the trip alone.

I may need to go just to watch the fans. Who was it that played in the M7 when that brawl happened? Was that last year? I remember it being brought up on here. Ridgeview & Union maybe. I’m not sure but there was video, lol!

Yes, that was last year. Made national news.

A Graham vs. VA High match last season also was ended early on the recommendation of the Bristol Police Department.

I got all the respect in the world for Princetons coach. I'm biased because he's also a Christian. But, we still got to keep stuff in perspective here guys. Princeton had never advanced past the 2nd game of the playoffs until last year and until last year, had only been to the 2nd game of the playoffs just a few times in its history.

Yes, a solid team last year, but the stars and moon aligned to where there were crazy upsets in round 1 and 2 that allowed them to somehow play at home in playoff games 2 and 3 before playing the state title game which is game 4 in WV. Princeton was supposed to travel in games 2 and then game 3 if there wouldn't have been pretty decent size upsets which both happened.

Princeton lost a kid to WV and one to Air Force. They lost 2 Div 1 players. They will be good again, but Princeton with this current run is only like 3 years deep. There's still no indication that they are completely over the hump and now in the realm of a powerhouse program.  Jury is still out on them. I tend to think they keep trending up, but history is NOT on my side at all. History would say otherwise, but history is a weak predictor. The coach they have is incredible, on and off the field, but I truly believe the jury is still out.

    Everything you said is true.

But other than the D1 seniors that you mentioned Princeton only had a couple more than actually contributed.

They’ll be returning the majority of starters next season and will have the benefit of a much more even playing field in the playoffs.

Bluefield/Princeton/Graham have been sharing kids around for years with Princeton usually coming up on the shorter end of all of the moves.

However, Princeton has gotten the better of Bluefield over the last few years. That helps them from losing kids to Bluefield & with a kid of Jennings’ caliber leaving Graham to go back to Princeton I’d imagine that will hurt the Princeton —-> Graham pipeline.

Now they have the benefit of having a young energetic coach, multiple kids playing division 1 and a taste of success. And finally it seemed like the community has really rallied behind them. Hunnicutt is a big stadium and they were filling up the home stands.

Usually I would be on your side on all of this but I believe Princeton has had the perfect storm of events go their way in the last 6 months. I’m weirdly optimistic that they have turned the corner.

Guys you know how this works, out of State transfers are inmediately eligible with a corresponding move into the attendance zone with a legal parent or guardian, it's not rocket science.

You are correct. That is the rule.

I was responding to someone who said Clements situation was the same as Jennings. It wasn’t.

Well the best time of the year is upon us.  What’s everyone thoughts on the upcoming season? Will Battle and Lebanon clash it out for the 2d region tourney or is there a dark horse? Will Chilhowie be able to adjust nicely to Lebanon leaving 1a and beat eastside and Rural Retreat for 1d? Would love to know what everyone thinks

    Did Gobble graduate from Battle?
