  1. When he was at Pound, he ran the same I formation stuff that Rick Mullins ran at Clintwood. The one year he was at Central, they ran rocket sweep and variations. I'd say he will stick with wing. It's been successful thus far, plus the JV and Middle school teams run it. I'd say you'll see more screens and draws, something ti slow down the d-line, which was missing for the last few years.
  2. https://www.timesnews.net/sports/mullins-back-as-head-football-coach-at-central/article_1343b5dc-9f43-11ec-870d-4f4d07a41b77.html?utm_campaign=blox&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social
  3. I think he should have kept it after the first year. He was from Wise and coached at pound.... he would have been a good liason between the 2 communities.... they would have averted the Reed years.... would have been more continuity. So yeah I think he's the most obvious hire. The sticky part is that his brother in law is McAmis... the Assistant Principal. Based on who I heard had interviewed.... he was the most qualified candidate.
  4. No, I think that will actually motivate him to take it. He was reluctant in the past because he didn't want to give the illusion that his kids success was because He was HC.
  5. Permanent. He was the first HC at Central and was HC at Pound for 6 years. He's been around a long time. He's a player's coach. Kids love him. His success will depend on his help. If the same OC is there and Tester doesn't stay, outlook is unfavorable. If he gets the right pieces in place, and someone like Tester at OC and to diagnose and correct the wingT and help with defensive game planning, success is imminent.
  6. Just to be different I'm gonna say Lee lays an egg and Battle gets in the win column. 28-26
  7. 3 but with their rotations, those positions were shared anyway. They essentially are fully intact.
  8. This defense is stout. 21 points is alot vs them. Even with Union playing their best in the spring they could only muster 14. As explosive as Abinhdon was they scored 13. Ridgeview scored 12 last week and that was 2nd half and late. Last year Ridgeview with Adkins, scored 7. This is a real defense.
  9. Central 42-21 If VA High can't stop PH, they definitely won't stop Central. Huge gap in 1A and 2A teams right now. VA High gets a few td's on Central, but not enough. This VA High team reminds me of Tazewell from last year.
  10. Va High up 60-27 in the 4th quarter and throwing bombs with their starters in.... 🤔
  11. Central has more success vs Ridgeview at their place historically. They haven't played well vs Ridgeview at home. Not sure why but playing them at home, it seems like they are flat. Last 2 games were 14-7 wins with Ridgeview not being able to do a whole lot on the ground. I believe both touchdowns by Ridgeview have been through the air. It would be hard to believe that they return everyone on a defense that stopped Adkins 2 games in a row at Ridgeview and wouldn't be able to stop whoever runs the ball for them now. It will be an interesting and intense game for sure.
  12. He I very good, but I think Beavers from Ridgeview is a little quicker and runs better routes....just my observation.
  13. I hate it but honest opinionated assessment was that he was in over his head. Don't know him personally, but his alignments and schemes seemed youth league level. I may be wrong, but might be for the best.
  14. The current coach resigned already?
  15. Spoken by someone who clearly has no idea what I've done over the years. Sonny, I was responsible for the keeping of and reporting stats when you were still in diapers 😂 (Just kidding) I'm trying to figure out why you assumed I had never done something that you have done, just because you think it's difficult? That doesn't make sense. And how are you so sure that it's "clear" to you that I had never reported stats? Because I think it's easy? Confusing. I think doing backflips is hard. But just because I think it's hard doesn't mean it's hard for everyone KEEPING stats and REPORTING stats are 2 different things. One is much easier than the other, but they are both easier now than they have ever been. Keeping stats is so much easier to do these days than it was 10-15 years ago. Obviously you are looking at it from the perspective of someone who is trying to keep stats AND announce a game (I assume so based on your mentioning of the radio team), which I absolutely agree would be difficult, especially when you are using the old way of pen and paper. Can I point you in the direction of some technological advancements that have made the keeping of stats so much easier, such as Daktronics, Turbostats, Teamsnap, Hudl, etc? People actually take advantage of these programs coupled with devices such as laptops and tablets....so much easier than the old pen and paper way... And the reporting of stats is so much simpler now that in years past. At one time, believe it or not, a person had to take their stats that they had recorded on paper and use a facsimile machine, or a telephone, to send their stats in. Now, one click sends your software's stat sheet to multiple news outlets at once... easy to do. Much easier to do than it used to be.... but you say it's hard? Maybe for a radio guy trying to do multiple things with little or no help, but not for a statistician. And you say the teams don't have people keeping their own stats... why is that? They have for years and years. What changed? And don't assume I blame this on the newspaper staff.... maybe the issue is with these teams that you know of who "are not keeping their own stats and reporting them"? Why wouldn't they be reporting them? What is more difficult now than 20 years ago? Let's say that all the stats are getting reported by every team, what has changed for these newspapers that the collection and reporting of these stats on a weekly basis is too hard now, but wasn't so hard 15 years ago? Staffing issues?
  16. The good old days. Not hard to do, but people are lazy these days. And probably don't want to "hurt feelings" by posting stats....
  17. The justification is nonsense as well.... "Some schools didn't play....so we won't do All-State because it wouldn't be fair...." Why are our kids held hostage by decisions made in haste in other areas of the state? We braved the pandemic and made the sacrifices required.... silly.
  18. Too little too late. This could have happened months ago. On a side note... the VHSL also decided to NOT have ALL State voting this year for football, which is an utter travesty.
  19. Yeah all total Lucas had 558 I believe. He had 43 yards vs central, and the playoff with Carroll he didn't carry the ball, so he had zero then.
  20. Lucas had less than 600 yards rushing for the season. How many did Lomax have?
  21. Union better get out of that double eagle defense or its gonna be a long night.
  22. Wet field will help. How's the field conditions look?
  23. Summons the spirits of Bullit Park as well...
