I work in BSG and heard rumblings of how great this team was going to be and how they could make a run at a state title... granted these are the same people who are upset when Union doesnt win the M7 every season

I heard State title talk from fans from Big Stone back in the Spring. Its out there. Imo they arent on that level unless the rest of the state is down. Imo the looked bad and lost on offense without Chandler, if a team can slow him down then idk if Union has the answers consistently.

Without Chandler the U offense looked like it lacked direction, he's their bell cow for sure

Im a firm believer that football practice, or practice for every sports shouldn't be a year round thing. The VHSL allowing it has virtually eliminated kids playing multiple sports and those that do end up grinding themselves to a frazzle, and I wonder if its worth it. I know theyre young and physically are fine but mentally its a lot imo. Multiple practices a day, 6-7 practices a week, etc. It becomes a grind and sports are supposed to be fun. For coaches, its a keeping up with the Joneses situation. If a coach cuts back because he doesnt believe its right but the next program practices all the time he looks like a slacker and adds to the criticism on him. That leads to coaches encouraging players to specialize in only 1 sport. Its just a mess.

I dont think RC has the athletes to contain Honaker, on the other side RCs run game and defensive front seem tough. A matchup of contrasting styles imo

I really don't know, I just see them making deep runs almost every season. They are talented but I've seen Riverheads absolutely take them apart so I wonder if the issue is they have talented players but maybe not real football players? The one time I saw them in person was vs Haysi in '13 and they were a solid outfit but were outmatched a week later vs a loaded Altavista team. Its just hard for me to believe that they could have done much more than what they have, which is pretty impressive, albeit without many rings.

Has Essex been a waste of talent? Regional championships and state title appearances galore, with a few rings

The argument can definitely be made that Hackney wasn't used to his potential as a ball carrier but RV needed a H-Back that could catch, and Gabe fit the bill perfectly. Imo his time at H-Back helped make him a complete Back now. The kid can do anything they need and they're gonna need him to protect and lead for O'Quinn
