  1. Georgetown is getting ready to play Loyola-Marymount on the CBSSports network in just a few minutes from Jamaica
  2. Got confused, Glenvar played at Bogle not LB.
  3. LB played this weeks game at Bogle Stadium( Cave Spring HS field) which is a turf field, so if the weather is bad they'll probably move it again.
  4. Who does the Falcons play if they beat HV? LB or Northside? Either one will be a tough matchup for anybody else in the region.
  5. Martinsville is ranked way to high. Most of their talent is very young and they are probably 1-2 years away from competing on a state level again. Also their schedule does them no favors this year with a young team, EC Glass, Liberty-Bedford, Northside, RE Lee, GW-Danville, and others makes for a very tough year. I look for the Dogs to have a losing record going into the playoffs. Also Gate City at 8 is a joke, they are much better than that, and DR at 2? Martinsville beat them in the playoffs last year and the Dogs couldn't score 60 points in a game last year if they were on the court with no opponent to play against.
  6. Actually Martinsville is in a district with 3 3A, 2 4A, 1 5A & 1 6A. They have a hard time competing in most sports except boys and girls basketball. But they line up and do the best they can. All the complaining in the world can't change it.
  7. They played some both ways but not too many. But of course this could have been because who they were playing. I was impressed with Byrd as far as how hard they played and how focused they were. Just kind of a taking care of business attitude. Not going to wow you with athletes but are just hard nose football players. If Richlands can control the line of scrimmage on both sides, they will win.
  8. Saw them against Martinsville last week. I'm sure they didn't show much against the Dogs since they are not very good this year. Everything for them on offense runs thru the QB. He's not big but is a very tough runner. Also have a fullback who is very physical and also a load at lb. Their line is very good, not overly big but very strong. Didn't throw much because they didn't have to, but the qb had a pretty good arm. Numbers are down at Byrd this year, didn't dress but about 38 kids and they don't have a jv team. Talking to some of the kids on the sidelines, they sure respect the heck out of Richlands and are looking for a very tough test Friday. Oh by the way, a couple of kids told me Basham was at Va. Western Comm. College and wasn't highly thought of as a teammate, just what they said for what it's worth. Beat the Dogs 41-6, coulda been alot worse if they had wanted it to be. Very well coached and were very disciplined
  9. One of my son's best friends is on staff at SR. From what I've been told there is more to the story than what is being reported and there is blame to be shared all around. When they came to Martinsville for a scrimmage with us and Gretna they had between 55- 60 kids dressed out for the varsity and some of the coaches were talking about how many new helmets they had to buy because the numbers were so good on the jv and varsity teams. From what I understand they've had 25-26 kids quit in the last week or so. Are parents a problem, sure they are, but with that many kids quitting there must be other problems also. Just stating what was told me coming from someone inside the program.

    Numbers

Martinsville is really struggling with numbers. Only dressed 18 varsity players for their scrimmage and benefit game. Looked better because they dressed out over half of their jv team to give them 30 players. Hope we have an injury free game tonite because the Dogs have William Byrd and GW- Danville coming up and they definitely will feel the effects of a small roster those nights. Good luck to all the teams in the SWVA tonight and hopefully everybody stays safe.
  11. I believe the 6'8" guy they have back, Vaughn is committed to ODU. They'll be tough inside but I believe this is GC's year. The Devils in a 8-10 point win.
  12. Martinsville will be lucky to have a couple of 100 people there. The last time they came to Wise was 2 years ago with a team who eventually won the state championship and I bet they didn't have but about 200 people from here. Just don't travel like they used to.
  13. Ryan, the Martinsville AD texted this afternoon and said The Mavahi-Graham game would be played at UVa-Wise as part of a quadruple header with the lady Dogs playing Central the first game then Eastside girls and boys playing next then Dogs-GMen in the nitecap. Just got the text little over a hour ago. On Saturday.
  14. Martinsville struggles to score, but with that being said Radford plays very good team defense. Good pressure out front and have enough size to make it hard to score at the basket. And they have about 4 guys who can shoot the lights out or have the quickness to get by you to get to the basket. They are going to be a hand full for anybody. Morton-Robertson is the real deal.
  15. Dogs heard you coming twice in the regular season last year and beat you both times. No reason to think that DR, Gate City, Graham couldn't do the same this year. We'll see how it works out in a couple of weeks but I'm sure you haven't scared the Wildcats, Devils or G-Men.
  16. Not central va. Believe he's a Radford man. Closer to swva than central
  17. Sarcasm? Not I. This is the worst shooting team the Dogs have had in years. Not really rebuilding, we had a good core back this year from last. We do play fairly good D and rebound pretty good for an undersized team and we have pretty good overall quickness, but if we can't control the tempo we just have a hard time scoring enough points to win. Also have been battling injuries and the flu bug the last couple of weeks. Did your buddy from Halifax tell you last week when we beat the Comets we had 2 starters out ( Pettway and Hundley) and they only dressed 7 because the flu is going around here big time.
  18. UVA, your right. Martinsville is not very good this year. Graham was head and shoulders better than them and the Dogs were lucky to lose by 8. Their record is 15-5, but it was because they didn't play anybody. They will probably lose their 1st round regional game. Like I've said before, this championship is GC's to lose, everybody else is playing for 2nd.
  19. On the 3 Rivers district site it's showing Radford at 14-0 and Glenvar at 10-4 with losses to Northside(twice), Covington and Staunton River. As sixcat stated they play on 1-26 and then again on 2-6
  20. According to the schedules on this board, Radford hasn't played Glenvar yet. Got them twice the last couple of weeks of the season. Radford is still undefeated, just trying to get back healthy. Glenvar has some 3 point shooters and if they get hot they can cause trouble for alot of teams, just don't think they're athletic enough for Radford or Dan River in Region C
  21. In region 2C, I was told the other night that all 13 teams will be in the regionals in a 16 team bracket with the top 3 teams getting 1st round byes. First 2 rounds at the higher seeded teams home court and the semis and finals at a yet to be determined site. Teams are seeded by power points. Radford and Dan River will probably be the top 2 teams and after that who knows.

    Rankings

Martinsville had to many games scheduled and had to drop one, this is the one they decided to drop. Just going by what I was told this morning.
  23. Boy, that brings back memories. After Bassett opened the new hs in the early 80's all the big games got moved there. Remember Martinsville playing Oak Hill and Flint Hill there in the mid 80's and it being standing room only and people turned away. I think capacity was around 3000. Those Carver-DM games in the early to mid 80's were special, between the 2 schools they won 5 state championships in about an 8 year span then Magna Vista won state the 1st year after consolidation. I know the Union admin. is looking at the $ signs but I agree with BigWinners, hard to give up that home court advantage especially against a big rival.
  24. Mavahi has all their bigs back from last year, but lost the 2 guards who did 75% of the scoring.
  25. I was impressed with how well coached the G-men are. They don't seem to have alot of depth but I was also told they were missing 2 players last night so when they get them back that should help the depth problem. Mavahi is in for a long year. Playing a good team like Graham helps to show all your warts and we got to see them for sure. Hope we can get the other game rescheduled, would love for the Dogs faithful to get to see the G-Men in person. Good luck the rest of the year, liked your student section, wish we could get some students to come to the games.
