  1. GMan, is that calculation due to big butts or huge heads?
  2. That's what we've been told down here at Martinsville.
  3. Martinsville is built different this year. Play alot 4 out 1 in. Guards control the game. With the size RE Lee had with the 6'7" and 6'8" kids, the Dogs got the early lead and then made the Leemen chase them. We figured Coach would want a low scoring game, the kids didn't have any legs left at the end and almost let a early 4th quarter 13 point lead get away. Least they have a week to recover before they play Bassett on Fri and Magna Vista next Sat.
  4. Great game. GW banked in a 3 pointer with 3.8 secs to go in regulation. The Dogs missed a contested layup at the end of regulation. Went to ot and GW hit 2 fts with about 2:30 left. The Dogs held it till the end and missed a jumper and then the follow up at the buzzer that would have tied it. Again just a great game all the way around, the Jones kid for GW ( 6'5" inside player) is an absolute beast. Thought we had it won but the 30 foot banked 3 was a dagger.
  5. Radford's guard Morton-Robertson is the real deal and only a soph. He got hurt the 1st Martinsville game and the Dogs blew them out but the 2nd game he played dropped 20 some on us and we only one by 1 in ot. Is there any chance he goes to a prep school to increase the talent level he plays against because I think he's got a bright future. Dropped 46 on Blacksburg the other night.
  6. G-Man, I think you hit it on the head,1-2 is about the best we can hope for. I haven't seen RE-Lee but have seen Franklin and GW. FC is good but the Dogs have a chance at home, GW is a different animal though. Alot of 6'2"-6'4" types, very athletic, and they just keep bringing them at you in waves. Then with a quick turn around, traveling 2 1/2 hours an tipping off at 3 in the afternoon, I just wonder how much the Dogs will have left after playing GW on Friday. We will soon find out.
  7. Believe me when I say Mavahi has a better chance to go 0-3 than they do 3-0. Since they lost the one starter they have not played well at all. It's a 50-50 game with Franklin Co who play alot of kids and are very well coached. GW is very good, press the whole game and go 12 deep and then the Dogs turn around and travel to Lexington for a 3:00 tip off on Sat against a very good Re-Lee team. Going to be a tough week.
  8. Bad news at Mavahi for the Dogs. In the last several weeks the Dogs lost a key sub when his family moved to Atlanta and they lost 1 starter and a sub to grades. Depth has taken a big hit. Tommorow they have Patrick and Sat they play Magna Vista so we will see how they adjust. But next week they have Franklin Co on Tuesday then GW-Danville Friday then travel to Lexington on Sat to play RE-Lee of Staunton. Pretty tough stretch without much depth
  9. Again the championship is Gate City's to win this year. I see no 2A team out there able to play with them. To much scoring from the big 3 scorers, just don't see anyone in 2A being able to match that.
  10. Mavahi has no size this year. The quickness is still there, but they are limited scoring wise. They still have a bunch of games against some good teams(Halifax, GW-Danville, Franklin Co., RE Lee-Staunton) so they will be battle tested, but each of those games will in all certainty be losses. This is not the last 2 years team. I look for both of the teams from SW to be in the final 4, GC and one of the other 3.
  11. Believe me when I say you have Martinsville to high. They are not nearly as strong as last year and they will lose 6-8 games in the regular season. Will still make region because the conference is not strong (you will see what I mean when GC plays Floyd next weekend), but just don't have the firepower to advance far this year.
  12. I think there is a huge drop off between Gate City and the rest off 2A west this year. Martinsville and Dan River are not near as strong, neither have the fire power as they have in recent years. I see GC with a straight shot to the final 4 with the other team coming from the 3 of Richlands, Graham or Union. Conf. 37-38 just don't have much this year. Mavahi will have at least 6-8 losses in the regular season, 2 each to Halifax, GW-Danville, and 6A Franklin Co and also RE Lee-Staunton and maybe at Radford this week if they are healthy. I have seen other Martinsville teams enter the post season with at or close to .500 record go on to win state, I just don't think this team will be one.
  13. When did Martinsville lose to Chatham?
  14. Radford needs to let someone know about the cancellation at Mavahi, per the AD this afternoon the game is still on for next Wed.
  15. Don't know. He's a very good player and it would have definitely been closer with him in the first game. The game next week will be at the Dedmon Center at Radford University, not sure why it's not at the high school. If he can play it should be a good one, if the Dogs can recover from tonite's butt kicking
  16. Dogs took a good old fashioned butt whipping from a very good 5A squad from South Boston. Martinsville was down by 3 with about 4 minutes to go in the 3rd but the Comets went on a 22-3 run to put the game away. Dogs will regroup and face an improved Tunstall team at home on Friday and then travel to Glenvar on Monday before they close out their pre Christmas schedule with a game at Radford next Wed.
  17. Looked very rusty but all in all a good first outing for the Dogs.
  18. We Martinsville fans didnt notice any taunting before the game but being from southside Va, we have union card carrying taunters down this way. The G-Men did nothing even close to what we consider taunting, just looked like they were fired up to play. Come watch a Magna Vista-Mavahi or GW-Danville- Magna Vista game and you can take notes on how to talk smack. Again congrats on the wins last night and good luck to both teams this week, should be a classic
  19. Ouch that hurt. Graham has a good team, but I believe everybody knew the Dogs were there. Thought both teams had good speed,I think the difference was that Graham's line play was better. Good luck next week with Richlands.
  20. DR is not in the Roanoke Times circulation area so Robert Anderson doesn't pick those games. Robert is a old Mavahi alum, great guy and a great writer.
  21. Mhsalum why poke the bear. Just like with Giles in 2014 when we stomped on their field and hung from there goalposts, that's why they beat us 63-0. Because we were to cocky, didn't have anything to do with them being 100 times better than us. Coach Martin really gave Graham a lot of props in the paper this morning, the Dogs know they have their hands full tonight.
  22. Being from the area, this is typical DR. They talk alot but have never really backed it up in football. Had alot of talent the last 5-7 years but really haven't done anything with it. Safe trip from Big Stone for all that are coming to the game, not much seating on the visitor side, y'all should fill it up quick.
  23. DR had good size, and good speed. They had 3 big plays against Martinsville that was the difference in the game, with the biggest when the Dogs drove to the DR 3 right before half but the DR db jumped an out pattern and ran the int back 100+ for a td and the Wilcats won 24-10. DR is solid with decent size and above avg team speed, pretty solid on D and they will hit you
