Not real impressed with Glenvar's strength of schedule. Their best win is either Northside or Carroll County and neither of those teams are finishing in the top three of the Mountain District. It will be interesting to see if they can stop old school smash mouth LPD style football. Union has already shown they can defeat a pass heavy team that relies on a great quarterback when they beat Lebanon. I'll take Union by 14 points.
-
Heck of a job by Jay Edwards being able to get Union focused and prepared with all of the distractions. Taking over a team in a win or go home situation against a tough Graham team and getting the victory is impressive and that staff deserves a lot credit!
-
This game was never competitive. Eastside is going to be a tough out and they don’t have a senior on the roster.
-
Who?
-
You are not alone. South Carolina, Florida, West Virginia, Tennessee I just scroll right past it.
-
Lebanon's JV was very impressive last year. If they can adjust to the size and speed on the varsity varsity level Lebanon will be dangerous. I would be hesitant to pick them above Wise, Gate City, or Graham though.
-
Lebanon’s defense is non existent. Union will run all over them.
-
Actually it is not. It's a player safety rule. If a kicking team is allowed to kick the ball straight up in the air and the receiving team is standing their trying to receive it in a defenseless position the collisions could result in several injuries.
-
Did the football on the onside kick touch the ground first and roll or was it kicked directly into the air?
-
Good win for Richlands but Lee may not win another game unless they get some of their better players back from injury. Abingdon should not have a problem with Richlands.
-
Still hard to say. Battle played like one of the worst teams in SWVA last night.
-
Most great coaches are pricks.
-
Central was shutout by Thomas Walker. There is no way in the world they are putting up 24 on Eastside. Eastside by whatever score they want to make it and a running clock.
-
Has Daniel Boone dropped off because of the hazing incident from a couple of years ago or are they on a down cycle of athletes? I remember them usually being good or at least competitive in football.
-
I think Richland's spread offense plays right into Va High's speed advantage. If Richlands was more of a run heavy team I think they could keep it close for a while but I've got the Bearcats winning this one.
-
They lost several good players from last year and a really good head coach.
-
Graham also has the most talent in SWVA which can make the coaching staff look good no matter who in charge. I would nominate Virginia High and Lebanon to the list. Virginia High has a lot of issues as a school and to have a successful football program say a lot about Coach Patterson. Lebanon was a dormant program that has found a winning formula under their new coach.

I don't know much about Alleghany but Union has played Science Hill the last 2 years and scrimmaged Elizabethton for a long time. I don't see Alleghany having more talent than either of those programs.
-
Union beat Lee 47-0 to last year. It could be worse this year. That might be why Union players don't transfer to Lee.

Patrick Henry is on the verge of going back to being irrelevant for a while. They had a great run under 2 excellent coaches in Palmer and Padgett but their community support always seemed lacking to me. The home crowds at PH were small when I watched them play and that was when they were winning a lot of games. Could be a long time before they get to those seasons again.
-
Is Fort Chiswell good at those sports? I don't recall seeing them having post season success but I don't keep up with Region C that much.
-
If I remember correctly Marion's 6th & 7th grade team played in a championship game against Chilhowie this past Fall. They have some talent coming but it will take a while for them to contribute to varsity.
-
Gate City seems to have stagnated under Houseright. I didn't see a huge improvement in year 3 and their numbers haven't been much better.
-
I don't believe hot seats exist in SWVA due to the lack of applicants for coaching jobs these days but if they did I'd put Wise Central, J.I. Burton, and Gate City at the top of the list.
