A school doesn't hire Kevin Saunders if they are comfortable being stagnant. There will be nothing comfortable about his coaching style and that is exactly what Wise Central needs.

Va High Girls were usually the 1 seed hosting the 4 seed from the Mountain District on their home court and still couldn't win. This year they got put out by a very down Gate City team. Va High Boys will have to deal with Graham and Lebanon in the district.

Grundy was 4-6 last year. Two of those wins were over teams they are consolidating with. Honaker beat Grundy 66 to 16 last year. Best case scenario would be 650 students at Southern Gap next year. I agree that Tester is a good coach but I'd pump the brakes on winning 7 or 8 games in year one.

Doubtful it happened that quick. The job has to post for 2 weeks before a candidate can be hired.

If the rumors were true and Kevin Saunders applied I would have gone that route. When you are in Tazewell's situation without much to lose you have to take some risks. There is some baggage associated with Saunders but he's going to instill discipline and eventually turn the program into a winner. I think he would be worth the headaches.

Seemed to work pretty good at Patrick Henry. Almost like Tazewell has a discipline/talent issue.

That's great but they need to start winning games. They haven't had a winning season since 2016. Emory & Henry beats them with less resources just about every year.

Depends on which part of Virginia you are talking about. The schools around Richmond and NOVA would beat a lot of schools in Tennessee. Graham beat Science Hill in basketball which is the 4th largest school in Tennessee.

Apparently one thing Virginia is better at than West Virginia is the availability of sports message boards. Maybe you West VA guys could start your own board so you can talk about your superiority over Virginia high schools somewhere else. Last time I checked Bluefield, Wyoming East, and Wheeling are not located in Virginia so why mention their results on a Southwest VIRGINIA board?

Bostic would average 20 points at any school in the Mountain District not coached by his Dad. Take him off Union's team and they finish behind Wise, Gate City, Abingdon and possibly Battle.

We will have to agree to disagree. I'd take Bostic over most of these players. He carried a team of football athletes to a Mountain 7 Championship.

Who are the 6 players that are better than Bostic in Region D?

Graham is way too athletic and physical to lose to Fort Chiswell or Luray. The defense in the 1A game against penetration was really bad and the defensive rebounding was a weakness. Unless Fort and Luray are shooting above 40% from the 3 point line I think they lose by at least 10 to Graham.

They didn't go to the same high school and Hancock was younger than Reddick.

Virginia High has a talented JV team who should be on varsity next year. PH will drop off significantly because of graduation and they've ignored their youth program for years.

I think Gallishaw was lucky to keep his job after the Floyd County melt down last season.

With who? When is the last time a school in SWVA got in any trouble over getting a transfer?

The high school should have an athletics account budget that covers the expenses of rooms but there is no way they are getting 15 rooms. If Union has 10 to 12 players that would be 3 rooms and 1 to 2 more for the coaching staff. The meals would be paid for by the school or the basketball team depending on how much they made on fundraisers. If the team is going out for an expensive dinner or taking a charter bus then maybe that is where the donation requests are coming in to play.

This a great hire for Union. Harless at Abingdon would be interesting to see. I'm not sure the culture at Abingdon could handle someone like him.

I think the Wolfpack's JV team finished last in the Mountain 7 and a majority of their games were 30 point losses. Ridgeview may be headed towards the dark ages in girls basketball for a long time.

I find it odd that Padgett has coached for at least 15 years at numerous schools and never had any issues but after one year at Tazewell it's his fault. On the other side, how many coaching and admin changes have gone on at Tazewell in the last 15 years?

They split during the regular season. Union beat them early in the year and Wise beat them towards the end of the season.

I don't think any team in SWVA in any of the major 3 sports will be able to eclipse their success.
