  1. You know what my biggest issue is with our country as of late? The lack of national health care. I know this topic has been stewing for years now, but it is only in the recent months that I have been able to realize the uproar. I am a 20 year old college student, working at Staples (making about $100 a week) and a very active member of the musical community around the Charleston area. I have not had insurance for the past few years and there is not a single thing I could do about it. I am currently paying for a very limited insurance package through the Staples Corporation, but my wisdom teeth are now coming in and my insurance doesn't give enough to cover the cost of this surgery. I need a good amount of money to be able to get my wisdom teeth removed and unfortunately I do not have that money and neither does my family. Basically, I have to deal with the pain and possible infection of my wisdom teeth coming in almost completely sideways, all because I just simply can't afford a good health care plan. It baffles me that we are one of the very few majorly-developed country in the entire world, that doesn't provide free health care for its citizens. Why doesn't this change? Why doesn't someone do something about this? My personal opinion is that the insurance companies make entirely too much money and in turn they support these politicians. If the government creates a nation-wide health care system, they will lose much of their support. You and I both know the owners of these insurance corporations are living lives that many of us will never see and there is no way they are going to give up there million-dollar salaries and there luxurious lives. It is not fair that the majority of not only adults but children that cannot receive the medical care they need, because they cannot afford it. I only wish these rich pricks on Capitol Hill and in the insurance corporations would have to realize the problems if their children were not insured and needed immediate health care. I am beginning to have some serious problems with this country and its government and I honestly do not see a hault in this downward spiral at any point in my life time. I know many of you all will say that I should be grateful of the country I live in, but the true values of this country's founding fathers and its history have been lost in political bs and money. We really do need God to bless the USA...
  2. The entire time I was listening to this game the same thought kept hitting me in the gut. This is the last time both Jake Lilly and Marcus Patterson will strap up for the Bluefield Beavers. What a way to go out for two of the better players to wear a Maroon and White uniform in recent history. I can recall when they were both freshmen and they had all this hype around them coming up from the middle school and they deserved every bit of it. These two remind me a lot of Rusty Coeburn and Daniel Wells from a few years back. Brothers that have played football together for years and I think it is only fitting that their last game together (probably) results in a state championship. I can honestly sit here and say that I have never enjoyed watching any football player as much as I have enjoyed watching Jake Lilly play this game. I have never seen anyone bring so much punishment to a football field, but at the same time he can make one move and break your ankles as well. It is once in a great while that a player like Jake Lilly comes through a program and Bluefield has been blessed with his presence on the field the last 4 seasons. I wish both of these fine young men the best of luck in whatever they pursue in the futures and may God bless them and this entire team.
  3. Is this game going to be streamed live on the web on Friday night? I was hoping to get to go up, but things just didn't work out. Don't wanna miss family dinners and such. Hope all that make the long travel have a very safe trip and help the Beavers get to the Island.
  4. At least JMU's band will be able to make the Hokies look bad.
  5. This was a very competitive game tonight between these two schools. I knew that Sherman liked to throw the ball alot and apparently so did Coach Simon. This backfired on the Beavers in the first half with Sherman running game gaining chunks of yard at a time, with the Beaver defense covering the pass. I thought that if Sherman could keep Bluefield from getting their usual big plays, then they would be able to stick in this game and they did just that. It was a very hard fought game by both of the schools in the first half, which ended with Bluefield ahead 13-12. Bluefield came out in the second half and had a plan to keep the Sherman offense off the field and they were able to do just that, only allowing the Tide offense to run a total of 11 plays in the second half. While holding on to the ball and running some clock the Beavers were able to move the ball quite effectively on the ground and occasionally through the air. Big play of the second half happened with about 5 minutes left, when Levi Beckett broke free from several Sherman defenders and outran the rest for the touchdown. Great game played by both teams and congrats to the Beavers on the win. Also congrats to the Tide on a very successful season and I wish them the best of luck next year. I had heard some bad things about the atmosphere at Sherman games and how the fans acted, but I have not one bad thing to say about the fans tonight. It is very crowding seating and I was in the middle of the Sherman crowd, along with BHS Principal Joe Turner. I had great conversations with many of the fans about the two teams and tried to learn a little about the Sherman team and answer questions about Bluefield. So, again, I have not a single bad thing to say about the Tide fans and I wish them success in the years to come.
  6. How many fans expect to make the trip up to Seth this evening? It is only about an hour from where I live up here so I am going to head over and see it. Anyone know anything about Sherman?
  7. The deal with my rant is that I have realized how much money I have thrown into video games and it disgusts me. Honestly if I had the money I would probably buy this game, but I have finally realized that I have to get my priorities in order as far as money goes, and a damn video game is not near the top of the list.
  8. The game itself of course cost more, but given the number of copies they will sale, there is no reason these damn games should cost so damn much. Americans and how much we have defaced the dollar and how easy it is for everyone just to throw money away...
  9. I really loved the first one, but funds are running short and I probably will save up enough money to buy the next one when it comes out. It just irritates me paying $60 for something that took maybe half of that to produce. I hate money...
  10. My history professor at WVSU was also running in the marathon. I cannot imagine running, or jogging that far.

    Mr. Jenks

    What are you talking about?

    Mr. Jenks

Raider, do me a favor and do not take a stab at band programs. You will really get me fired up then. I was at the game Friday night and was absolutely appalled by what James Monroe's coaches allowed their players to do. That showed how much class our farmer neighbors have and what Don Jackson is instilling in that program. I personally talked to Mr. Jenks and he was not happy at all with what the opposing team did and he planned to write a letter to the AD at James Monroe High School. I do not think this was intentional, but the coaches should have respect for the other school's band's time on the field. There were many Bluefield fans that were outraged by this classless act, including myself. I am sure if the James Monroe marching band was on the field and any other team came onto the field during their time, all of the Purple Pony fans would be very upset. Sanctagon, you heard wrong because the time keeper placed the allowed 20 minutes on the clock for halftime. What realy got me is that the WVSSAC put a rule in place this year that each team has a 3 minute period after the alloted 20 mins to do their respective warmups. The rule states that the team must be back on the field by 3 minutes left in the half, but does have the extra 3 minutes to warm up. This should have never happened and I hope Mr. Jenks or another member of the Bluefield High School faculty discusses this with James Monroe.
  13. I am hoping this is going to a good game. I will get just my second chance this season to see the Beavers. From what I hear it shouldn't be all that close of a game, but James Monroe always seems to play Bluefield tough. Looking forward to a good game with Bluefield winning 33-13.
  14. Did you all hear about what the other athletic teams at UCONN did when the team left the school? All of the the teams lined the main drag and gave the football team a great send off. The girls track team was in the stands of the football stadium and made a large #6 that the team saw as they were leaving.
  15. How many Beaver Faithful are going to make the cold trip up to Laidley Field this evening? Since I am living in Charleston now, this will give me a chance to see the Beavers and how they have improved since the Beaver/Graham game. Hope to see a lot of fans out supporting the team...and probably getting a little sick. Safe travels to all.
